âRightâŚâ A gloved hand withdrew to rub the brunetteâs neck. So thatâs how this guy seriously was. It seemed no matter what friendly front Alvin put up, this guy wasnât going to take to it. Thatâs just how it was sometimes, and thatâs exactly why he wasnât fond of working with partners when it came to the mercenary field. Heâd rather rely on himself, and himself alone. Anything else was an additional factor to the situation and couldnât be trusted.Â
A part of Alvin suspected that his uncle knew that, and hired this guy just to mess with him. But it wasnât as if he would ever voice that out loud. For all he knew this was just another one of Gillandâs men that he had been left in the dark about, but that wasnât important. And he knew better than to be too nosy about it. Especially when his dear uncle was involved.
The awkward end to the conversation left the two men to themselves for the most part the rest of the sea voyage. But soon enough they pulled to shore off of the coast of Fennemont into the harbor. It was then the brunette saw to it to try and socialize with the redhead again. âNo wonder this job was well paid.â He mused. âSeems like it was a delivery straight to Orda Palace. King Nachtigal himself has to be the head honcho here.â
He swung his arms off the boatâs railing, lacing his fingers behind his head as he idly looked to the other before staring out at the lumen trees that illuminated the city scape. âThe night clime in Fennemont sure is something, huh Mr. Serious?â
Kratos honestly doesnât even realize how awkward his abrupt departure was to Alvin. Until after a few days of the brunette stammering or just giving a nod and carrying on. Itâs for the best anyway.
But then Alvin tries again. And Kratos isnât sure what to do with him.
âSo it is.â Heâs never seen anything like quite like. And when youâve lived as long as he has, thatâs quite an accomplishment.
Itâs innovative. In a way Derris Kharlan isnât, and the type of experiment Tetheâalla is not interested in. Something without exspheres. Perhaps something that has a lower cost in lives. . . .
Itâs a smooth noise, the drawing of a blade. And itâs quiet. But not quiet enough.Â
He was just thinking this was too easy.
If it wasnât for that, perhaps heâd have been taken off guard from such unlikely timing.
Kratos doesnât fully pull his sword, not yet. If they have a spyglass or some other device, theyâre likely watching. But he does free an inch of the blade. Catches Alvinâs eye, tips his head in the direction the sound came from, and then, quite casually walks to a better position. Alerting the crew would likely lead to a flurry of activity that they donât want, not yet.
But the captain is a sensible man and gets the message just by looking at Kratos.Â
Kratosâs stance is balanced and ready. Not an attack pose, not yet. Just prepared.Â
