you hated the gym. that was the conclusion you’d come to after exactly seven minutes of being awake. randy was already dressed in a fitted black compression shirt and gray shorts, leaning against the bedroom door while scrolling through his phone. meanwhile, you were still buried underneath the covers.
“your eyes ain’t even open.”
you pulled the blanket over your head. randy laughed.
“come on. you said you’d go with me today.”
he walked over to the bed before grabbing your ankle through the blanket.
“this is why i stay in pilates.”
“pilates is still exercise.”
“yeah, but nobody in pilates looks like they’re training to go to war.” you finally sat up with a dramatic sigh. randy’s grin widened.
“because you’re the reason i’m suffering.”
he leaned down and pressed a quick kiss against your forehead.
“that’s easy for you to say.”
your eyes drifted down his chest.
“…you actually like this.” randy smirked immediately.
“you checking me out this early in the morning?”
he laughed again before helping you off the bed, and somehow that simple gesture turned into him pulling you directly into his chest. your hands landed on his shoulders. his arms settled around your waist.
“good morning,” he murmured. his voice was lower now. you felt your cheeks warm.
“good morning baby.” randy smiled before kissing you. the kind of kiss that made you forget why you were annoyed in the first place, until he pulled away.
you groaned dramatically.
“i take back everything i just felt.”
twenty-five minutes later, you were walking into the gym beside him immediately regretting every life decision that led you there. the weights clanged, machines hummed, people were running, sweating, lifting things that looked entirely too heavy. you looked at randy, then looked around, then looked back at randy.
you pointed toward a group of men lifting weights.
randy was trying not to laugh.
he wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
about twenty minutes into the workout, things somehow got worse. because randy had moved over to free weights. which meant you now had a front row seat.
you couldn’t even concentrate on the set you were trying to finish, your boyfriend looked ridiculously good. his muscles flexed with every movement. his focus was locked in, headphones on, jaw tight. his abs were glistening with sweat and practically yelling at you.
he was completely in his element. you were supposed to be doing reps. instead you were staring. over and over again.
until he snapped you out of your thoughts,
your eyes widened. randy wasn’t even looking at you, yet somehow he knew.
“you’ve done the same rep five times.”
“and you’ve been holding the same weight for two minutes.”
you looked down. he was right.
he finally sat his weights down before walking over.
“you’re my girlfriend baby.”
he stood directly in front of you now.
“you been staring at me?”
his eyebrow lifted and you immediately looked away. randy started laughing.
“because this place whole entire place is distracting.”
his grin said he didn’t believe you for a second.
later, after you somehow survived the workout, you were sitting on a bench drinking water. completely exhausted and randy sat beside you. looking annoyingly perfect despite being sweaty. you shook your head. “i’m never doing this again.”
you gave him a look. randy already knew the answer. his smile grew.
“you couldn’t focus that’s what it was.”
you covered your face. he looked entirely too proud.
he leaned over and pulled your hands away.
you tried not to smile, failed immediately.
his eyes softened and for a moment the teasing disappeared.
“thanks for coming with me though baby.”
he leaned in and pressed a kiss against your cheek, then another, then one near the corner of your mouth. making you laugh.
his hand slipped into yours. a small smile settling on his face. you shook your head.
“this is still why I stay my ass in pilates.”
randy laughed so hard he nearly dropped his water bottle.
and somehow, despite all your complaining, you were already planning to come back with him next week.
