Canon-divergent Slimeknight AU where the King in Yellow, as a last act, traps the consciousness of Avery and Derek in a minecraft-like world. On it's own, this doesn't seem so bad, Derek gets to survive here while his body rots in real life. Except his gamemode is set to survival. And Avery's is set to hardcore.
Facing the inevitability that Avery will someday die and he will have to live forever without him, Derek becomes desperate to free avery from the game and back to his body, knowing he cannot leave but telling Avery otherwise so he'll continue on without him.
But we all know Avery would never give up on Derek.
