Just got majorly wined and dined at the Consul-General’s home tonight after orientation. Personal chef? Free. Unlimited high-quality sake? FREE. Quality conversation throughout the night? Priceless.

After tonight, it is 100% confirmed that our consulate is super awesome. We have amazing people coming in our Nashville group. Everyone’s so sweet and willing to help each other and interested in each other.

That meal. Oh man, that meal was so good.

And then, those of us who took the bus to the hotel, were stranded for about an hour when we discovered the road was closed and tried to detour. The bus tried to turn around in a dead end and got stuck going into a parking lot. They tried to get a bus out to us, but to no avail. Finally, Greg (shout out!) called a taxi van service and they brought us to our hotel.

And now we’re all passing out for a few hours.

What a day.

A cafe in Tokyo exclusively for girls majoring in science!

A new cafe is being opened exclusively for those females graduating in science in Tokyo on 20th June. This cafe will also cater to those girls studying in middle school and high school, who are interested in science.

This restaurant called RKJcafe was conceived by the Knowledge Hands,an employment support company based in Tokyo. Normally girls form only 10 - 30% of all the students studying science, so females have a hard time finding fellow female science students to discuss and interact about various scientific concepts.

This cafe will provide an ideal platform to all the women interested in science to get together and discuss what they truly love i,e science. Most amazing part of this restaurant is that female science students will wear white lab coats and serve customers drinks in beaker and test tubes. This cafe will operate only during weekends, when science students get some respite from their grueling schedule.

Placement announcement!

I can officially tell people that I will be going to the town of Karuizawa in Nagano Prefecture to teach senior high school! I am really excited to be going somewhere so beautiful, from what I’ve seen, and so close to some pretty major cities. I’m not excited for the tourism surges, or the expense of living in a sort-of ski/hot spring resort…but it looks like it’ll be a comfortable location close to some really great scenery, landmarks, and some really lovely people.

i need to get my damn luggage. any suggestions? i don’t wanna pay 500$ for bigass suitcases i’ll barely use. i DO however, wanna get a quality duffel (or rolling duffel maybe?) to use as my carryon…. that way i can use it for trips and stuff, too.

also, ladies - i’m assuming bringing your purse as your personal item is a waste? a backpack can serve as that, right?

We buy our luggage at TJMaxx and Kohls. You can get discounted stuff there. I do take a purse but usually stuff it into my backpack or pack it flat unto my suitcase.

I buy all my dress clothes from NY&CO. As do my coworkers. Highly recommend them!

Hiatus

Life's been crazy and I miss tumblr but I can't afford to lose my time so I must stay away. Temptation is great. I got accepted into the JET program and will be flying over to Japan in August to teach English! Just got my placement in Gunma Prefecture and am excited to see all its mountainous beauty.

it is ok to like AOU and still have problems with it. it is ok to enjoy any movie but not agree with everything that happened in it. loving a film and acknowledging that it has problematic aspects are not mutually exclusive.
