Stretching one night into cinema is a formidable task and at times, Chameli's script seems stilted and the random encounters clunky. But what holds it together is Kareena Kapoor. Achingly lovely, she is by turns ironic, seductive, steely and tragic. This is a prostitute savvy enough to create sob stories to earn more money but also vulnerable enough to hope for love. Bose, suited and speaking in clipped city tones, is the perfect foil for her coarse beauty. At two hours, Chameli is a minimalist miniature.

Tragedy happens in a comedian's life too. He doesn't laugh all the time. A villain can't remain vile and hated all the while. You can even laugh at them. Comedy is a part of his life, his character, his behaviour. It is not necessary that only a villain creates problems and only a comedian provides relief.

Patience.. in turn.. required trust.. A trust that good things would happen at their own natural pace
