Another kind of diversity we need in writing is protagonists without love interests. Give me adults with full-fledged stories that don't include falling in love.
really hilarious and unsexy when hetero romantasy authors refer to love interests as males and females. you sound like david attenborough narrating a special documentary on two turtles humping in the mud
i don't care if he's the king of the fae. if that man called me a desirable female i'd have him gelded
white fantasy authors: okay so white people are from normalsberg and all nonwhite people are from the mysterious mystical kingdom of mystery world where the sands are mystical and weird. and also theyre ugly ass orcs
fantasy readers: this is fucking awesome. this rocks. youre so good at this man
nonwhite fantasy authors: so the knight is a black woman, and there are no orcs,
fantasy readers: okay what the fuck. can we stop bringing contemporary politics into everything. ugh. this sucks. i dont like this

We need more gothic fiction where men are going mad and running around in billowing nightgowns and women are brooding, byronic, and morally dubious
[one single bloodcurdling agonized scream] ok time to lock in
No, you see, I wish to be an author. Not in marketing. Or an influencer. I wish to tell my stories, be told I did a fantastic job, and then go back to my hovel to scribble some more. I am delicate of constitution and awkward in crowds.
A whole lot of military films will be coming out soon. You'll see older ones showing up on streaming service and new ones soon to follow. Sure, a few are, in fact, very good movies. But here's the caution:
Any film featuring the US military is paid for by the US military. They have the final word on what comes out. These films are recruitment tools. Same applies to TV shows, and doubtless many will soon be showing up.
Do not be fooled by these films and shows. They are designed to bring in new recruits. When these are released, there is a surge in new people enlisting in the military. These recruits swiftly discover they were fed bullshit, but now they're stuck due to a contract. Going AWOL, away without leave, is desertion. You will be caught and put on trial for desertion, and they are not light with the sentencing.
Please, for the love of fuck, do not enlist with the military. You are cannon fodder. They do not care about you.
Recruiters are told to lie. To do whatever it fucking takes to enlist new people. Do not fucking fall for it.
These films and shows are recruitment tools paid for by the military. It's why they're so big, glamorous, and quickly made. Enjoy what you see, but don't sign up. It's a fucking lie.
if you have signed up, you have a year to quit due to "failure to adapt" with minimal consequences to you ("it's not you it's me")
if you want to quit, no matter how long you've been in, these folks may be able to help you https://girightshotline.org/
Are you in the military or thinking about joining? Are you unsure of where to get reliable answers? Call the GI Rights Hotline at 1-877-447-

The books await...
the catch-22 of black characters in fandom: if a black character is morally upstanding, heroic and kind, if they embody good and noble traits with minimal or understandable flaws, the majority of fandom will decide they're too boring and vanilla to stan and ignore or bash them in favor of nonblack characters, claiming there's something untrustworthy or unbelievable about how good this character seems to be. but if a black character is messy, morally complex or fucked up on par with nonblack characters in the same story or straight-up evil like a lot of popular nonblack villains in fandom are, the majority of fandom will hyperfocus on the black character's negative traits and use them as the reason why they "can't" be interested in the black character or as a flimsy excuse for repeating antiblack stereotypes. like when it comes to black villains or even just like. 3-dimensionally flawed black characters, most folks in fandom often frame them as beyond empathy bc they're exceptionally aggressive/dishonest/unemotional etc and that makes them fundamentally unsympathetic and repulsive, even if they have favorite nonblack characters with the exact same traits. the common denominator of these arguments is blackness, and how way too many people see blackness itself as inherently beyond sympathy and inherently lacking interiority- but a lot of folks in liberal fandom spaces are unable to face that bias about themselves, so they grasp onto arbitrary character traits as the "reason" for why they think so many black characters are just unsympathetic and unlikable and uninteresting regardless of how they're depicted. it's completely valid to have archetype preferences- some folks just prefer straightforward heroic types, some folks just prefer villains or monsters, etc- but if someone who loves a whole roster of bland morally righteous nb heroes is turning up their nose at black heroes for being too boring or too perfect, or if someone who makes a whole meal outta being a monsterfucker villain stan somehow draws the line at black characters doing all the fucked up things their nb faves have done, we know the basis of that double standard is antiblackness.
black hero?? ugh they're a mary sue/they're too perfect/they're too boring/the story's tryna fool and manipulate us into thinking this character's a good person but i know they aren't!! black villain?? ugh they're so evil/irredeemable/disgusting how can anyone stan them?? they've literally killed and exploited so many people. anyway back to posting about my nonblack fave who just deserves a big hug, hatecrime mcgenocideman-
just got phone call from my neurologist WHO IS ON VACATION may his name never be erased, basically being like. "ok so your insurance is trying to kill you. I've referred dozens of people to Duke for this and this has never happened. they're being purposefully confusing and sending us all in circles. they keep sending me forms asking ME to agree to pay for your treatment no matter how many times I explain that I am THE REFERRING PHYSICIAN. so here's what you're going to do-" and gave us instructions on what to do when the health insurance corporation is trying to kill you
this is not his job. his job is being my neurologist.
his job is not "call patients after hours while I'm on vacation because I'm afraid if I don't give them this guidance their insurance company might murder them and so even though this isn't my job it feels like a fucking hostage situation"
anyway. he confirmed that the shit my insurance has been pulling for a month and a half is explicitly Trying To Kill The Patient behavior. told us to get everything in writing. sending us a whole packet of every single relevant form and piece of paperwork so we have it all on hand. told us to contact the patient advocate and if that doesn't work, we're going to have to go outside the company entirely and get the state insurance ombudsman involved.
so. that's fun. and a totally productive use of everyone's time and resources. I've had insurance companies be shitty to me but I've never been the Patient They're Explicitly Trying To Kill before. like I've never had them throw this much energy at blocking a procedure this lifesaving. it actually feels even worse than I thought it would!
every day I have to make decisions
