I’ve been reading through the notes and I just have to say that I absolutely promise, promise, promise you that nobody in the dental surgery is there to judge you, and we’re certainly not mad at you. Cavities happen. Even to dentists. You think your dentist has a mouth full of virgin teeth? Unlikely! They’ve all visited eachother’s surgeries to get a quickie filling (ooh, saucy) between patients. They understand that life can get in the way of oral hygiene sometimes. They understand that life’s too short not to eat chocolate. They understand that you’ve got to live. I swear to you that everyone in that room is just there to help you. Please, please, please don’t stop going to the dentist because you’re worried they’ll be mad at you. It’s really not the case. They understand. It’s fine. It’s really, really fine. Please go to the dentist. I promise you it’s ok.

You would not believe how comforting this is.

Probably in the original twitter thread, but here’s another: “Minding your Ps and Qs” as a phrase comes from the fact that originally when setting type you were looking at all of your type face mirrored (so that when the page was pressed to the inked type, it would read the right way), and if you were working with a typeface like our modern one where the lowercase p and q look like that, well… you can see how it would be easy to mix them up if you’re working fast and in mirror image

Bringing it back to print again – em units, used so, so often in web development (CSS), also have their origins in typography! 1 em space was just the width of the current typeface, and similarly, 1 em in CSS is relative to the font size of the current element (or that of its parent element, if used specifically for the font size property itself).

I keep accidentally reccomending queer books to my mom. I'm unintentionally easing her into being less homophobic via cute gays in the background of fantasy books. However I may have girlbossed too close to the sun with the next one which is highly critical of religion and has a lesbian main character. I suppose we shall see

people who write on their phones (word mobile, gdocs app, scrivener mobile, notesapp, etc) how does it feel to be taunting god every single day
