the main piece of advice i have for students is this: learn how to fail and persevere. it is a skill that will help you in life far more than perfect grades. think of failure impersonally. when you fail, you have just eliminated one method that doesn’t work for you, so you need to try a different method in the future. figure out which factors contributed to the undesirable result, and change them. (teachers, advisors, and academic counselors can help you with this if you aren’t sure where to start). i know from personal experience that fear of failure is often a self-fulfilling prophecy, because it leads to self-sabotage. if you can learn not to think of it as an inherent personal flaw, but rather as a strategy that didn’t work for you and can be changed, you will be well-equipped to face the inevitable failures and rejections that are part of life.
sometimes you need to do the hard thing. study for your test even if it’s boring and you want to avoid it. get up an hour early to exercise even if you feel like death. go out of your way to help someone else even if it’s inconvenient. do something alone even though you’re afraid of being judged. go somewhere new even if it’s scary and disorientating at first. confess to the person who makes u blush even if it means risking rejection. let go of your old habits even though it feels like you can’t live without them. it’s supposed to be hard. life isn’t going to have amazing rewards if you’re always feeling comfortable.
And don't you forget it! You got this!! 🔥💛

Hi guys! I just wanted to come on here and talk a bit...
I guess I just want to tell you what these past years in med school have taught me. The most important lesson I learned- also the hardest- is that mistakes are the most crucial part of med school. You´re going to fail so many times- especially in the beginning - and, TRUST ME, it can and most probably will make you feel useless (because I felt like that most days). That´s why I want to tell you that resilience is your best friend during these hard times. Failure will transform into lessons and the more we learn, the more we understand that failures are part of our learning process. But also understand that the more we fail, the more we feel the need to excel and the hungrier we get to become better. Your first failure should never be your last, in med school. It means you stopped trying.And if you stop fighting for yourself, how are you going to help your patients fight for themselves? The masters will always fail more that the mediocre. They fail. They try again. They attack. They fight with everything. I´ve been told many times these past years “Why do you study so much?” “You study way too much” Yes, I do. Why? Because this is my dream and my passion. I´m trying to achieve greatness, not for others, not even for myself, but for my future patients, that´s why I except every mistake I make with open arms nowadays. They are going to make me great.
I guess the conclusion is that it´s going to be hard, I mean SUPER hard, but you know what? If you want it, if you are willing to fight for your dream then you are already half way there!

The Night Before Your Exam
Hello, hi there. Recently I made a post about what to do the day of your exam and it’s still getting notes which is amazing. Thank you all. So now, please enjoy these realistic tips for the night before your exam that do not involve perfum, gum, or cramming. Please don’t cram.
Get a good night’s sleep. I know that for many of us this is a major challenge because we deal with insomnia or anxiety disorders that keep us awake. Try taking a warm bath in Epsom salts. Stay in the tub until you break a sweat. Pick your salts wisely because some of them are more energizing (i.e lavender salts are more energizing I have found).
If you are having trouble sleeping because of tension in your neck/back, try to relieve the tension by rolling out your muscles on the floor, or conciously tensing them up for about 10-20 seconds before slowing releasing. The Epsom salt bath really helps with any sort of tension. I have chronic nerve pain from a car accident and it’s one of the few things that help me that is more holistic.
Don’t shy away from melatonin. It works wonders and you won’t feel “hung over” in the morning like you may with Z-Quil. They have melatonin gummies too!
Try lowering your body temperature. Sleep naked. It’s life changing. If you can’t sleep naked (because you live in a dorm) still do your best to keep it cool. Our bodies get tired when their temps are lower.
Additionally, do not cram for any exam. The night before your exam is not the time to be learning any new material. We are way past that. Gently refresh the material that you already know; however, do focus on items you may struggle with. Remember, althetes don’t go crazy hard the day before a game - treat your brain the same way; no heavy lifting.
You may take this time to rewrite your notes. It’s a simple act that can definitely help you to remember.
Try teaching the material to someone else, or if no one else is available - stand in the mirror and give your own personal TedTalk on the subject. Hey, if it works for Sims, right? Remember that if you can teach the material, you know it. Reiterating in your own words is so helpful.
This should go without saying, but eat a good dinner.
Use the “Match,” “Test,” and “Spell” functions on Quizlet. Very helpful.
Have I said do not cram yet?
Lay out your clothes for the morning. The fewer decisions the better.
You’re going to want to wake up with enough time to review your study materials a couple more times, get ready for the day, and leave for the exam early (so that you have time to review when you get there and to ensure you are on time!) So set your alarm in advance.
Make sure that you set out your blue book, calculator, etc. so that you are prepared for the exam tomorrow and you aren’t sprinting across campus to find somewhere that sells blue books.
Triple check that alarm.
Try to limit your use of electronics 30 minutes before you need to fall asleep. I know that isn’t always reasonable though. Just make sure your phone is plugged in so that it is well charged and ON when you need that alarm to go off.
Drink some water.
Don’t drink any coffee or other caffeinated beverage/over induldge in nicotine/or take your *prescription!!!* adderall after 8 PM. Really for the Adderall don’t take it after like 5:30. You will be up all night long, my friend.
Okay last time: do not cram for any exam. That’s like over extertion for your brain and it will take you time to recover. If you continuously pull all nighters to cram you will crash and burn eventually. So just start early on your study plan. You can make time for it, I promise.

I am good enough.
I have days where I don’t study. There are days I don’t achieve anything on my to-do list. There are days where I just lie down and watch Netflix, procrastinate the day away. There are days where I think about giving up. Today has been one of those days.
But I don’t give up. I shower, put on pajamas, and meditate. I go to bed with the knowledge that tomorrow is a new day. I don’t give up, and I am good enough.

Listen to me. This is your life– no one else’s. At the end of the day, it is you who has to be happy with the choices you are making, food you are eating, things you are doing, goals you are pursuing. Do not let the opinions and judgments of others stop you from doing what you feel and know in your heart is right for you. Eat the food that makes you feel best. Do what makes you feel at peace. Surround yourself with people who make you feel good, who make you laugh, who sincerely make you smile. Go after what you want– not because someone else is telling you to, but because you want to. Listen to that inner voice, trust your gut, and trust yourself.
if you’re going to talk shit about people working certain professions you shouldn’t get to benefit from their work.
talk shit about cashiers? go to the self checkout or get out.
talk shit about fast food workers? make your own damn food at home.
talk shit about janitors + cleaning staff? live in filth.
talk shit about garbage collectors? drag your bags to the dump yourself.
talk shit about plumbers, electricians, + construction workers? fix your own damn house.
you shouldn’t be able to devalue the work that certain people do and degrade them for doing it while still benefiting from that work on a daily basis.
