physical health: when he's not writing like a madman, he eats well and exercises in a variety of ways because he's just a touch vain about his appearance. When he is writing, it's bingeing, sleeping when he passes out as his computer. Alcohol is for celebrating and nightcaps with his wife only.

✧ Biography Bits | full bio here
Born in San Francisco, CA.
Grew up participating in varying levels of sailing competition.
Won a writing contest his junior year of high school that allowed him to go to a writer's workshop in Los Angeles the summer between his junior and senior years of high school. It set him up with an agent and publishing contacts.
Earned his bachelor's degree in English, plus a creative writing minor from Stanford.
Married Monica Braithwaite, a political darling from Los Angeles, just before he graduated from college.
Couldn't get his second book going, so he applied for and got accepted to the Ph.D. program at Stanford. As he worked toward his Ph.D in English, he developed a love for teaching.
Met Kate when she was his TA one semester while he was teaching (and while he was married.) They got along fine but, like, he's always gotten along with most people so it wasn't remarkable in that way.
There were numerous reasons why, and it was a long process, but within a few years of finishing his degree, his marriage completely fell apart and he moved out of the house. He didn't tell anyone.
Samuel proposed to Kate, which is only remarkable as part of Simon's life because Kate turned Sam down -- due to being in love with Simon.
Tentatively and almost in secret, Simon and Kate slowly embarked on a relationship. Once they realized it was real, he started the (painful) process for a formal divorce, even though it had been time for a long time.
Once his divorce was finished and they'd had some time and space to grow their relationship, and after he published his second book that had been in the works for a very long time, Simon and Kate eloped/got married at city hall in an unannounced ceremony and moved to Chicago in part to reunite with Kate's terrible family and in part to avoid flaunting their relationship in front of Samuel, even though he'd moved on.
Within a few years of the move, he published his third novel, based somewhat on his relationship with Kate. He continues to be successful, if not prolific, and is involved in adapting his second novel as a miniseries.
Feeling a little restless these days, and unable to figure out why, he's considering looking for a part-time spot lecturing somewhere nearby, even if it's just a juco or a community college. Or maybe buying a boat. Or something.
