🌼DaisyClan: Moon 25🌼
“A mediator?” Woodpelt snorted, her tail twitching. “We don’t need a mediator.”Tulipnight wasn’t ruffled by Woodpelt’s dismissal, but she felt Daisyrunner shift beside her. The medicine cat and the former leader had always rubbed each other the wrong way, but it was even worse now that the Clan was starting to take sides. Woodpelt was an enthusiastic supporter of Minkstar, but many cats believed that Daisyrunner should reclaim their position. Tulipnight wasn’t sure where she stood - she’d never been one to take sides. But she knew a Clan fighting amongst itself could never stand against its enemies. She understood now why StarClan told her to come here.“I think we do need a mediator,” Tulipnight responded in an even tone. “And I think I am the cat to do it. I was happy in HillClan. There, I have a mate and a beautiful kit, who now has kits of her own. I miss them every day. I miss the connections I had in my birth Clan.” Tulipnight paused as her throat clenched. She took a deep breath and went on. “I have no connections here, but I think that’s exactly why StarClan thinks I’ll be a good mediator. I can picture your disagreements from an outsider’s perspective.”
Woodpelt huffed and turned back to the herb stores, picking out a shrivelled leaf. “I find it hard to believe that StarClan would send a message to a warrior rather than a medicine cat.” She meowed tartly.
“If the message is important enough, StarClan will say it to whichever cat needs to hear it,” Daisyrunner responded. Their voice was calm, but Tulipnight could see the flash of exasperation in their eyes. She imagined the pair had many conversations just like this.
“Even if a warrior was contacted by StarClan, only a medicine cat could interpret their true meaning,” Woodpelt said. She shot a glance at Tulipnight. “Did you even discuss this with HillClan’s medicine cat before you ran off?”
Tulipnight bowed her head. “I did not,” she admitted, “But StarClan’s message wasn’t exactly cryptic. I was standing atop a windswept hill, like the ones in my birth Clan’s territory, looking down into a sheltered valley. There was a bed of daisy flowers there, and among them a single, red tulip.” Tulipnight met Woodpelt’s sharp gaze, and tilted her head. “Don’t you think they meant for me to come here?” “Perhaps, but they never said anything about being a mediator, did they?” Woodpelt said with a dismissive tail-flick. “DaisyClan is doing just fine without your ‘outsider’s perspective.’”
The fur on Daisyrunner’s shoulders raised. “But we’re not,” They insisted. “The Clan is choosing sides. We’re supposed to be united! I don’t even want to be leader, but if it is StarClan’s will -”Woodpelt turned on Daisyrunner, her tail lashing. “If it is StarClan’s will, they will tell me!” She spat. Tulipnight sighed as the two cats went on squabbling. Oh StarClan, she thought, I sure have my work cut out for me . . . >>>
