These are some of the reasons I mention:

1) Tommy makes it even more Billy-centric, and Billy-centric in exactly same “magical new family” way as Children’s Crusade. I didn’t want to tell that story again. 2) Tommy didn’t want to give up superheroing. 3) Tommy hurts the team diversity more, which was already problematic. 4) I didn’t think Tommy would stay and wait around. 5) Tommy’s role in the original Young Avengers dynamic was to be the more prickly character in a team of absolute sweethearts (“The Team Sociopath” as Billy put it).

1) UM???? TOMMY SHEPHERD HAS HIS OWN STORY TO TELL?? Not everything has to be about Billy Kaplan but apparently Marvel nor you understand that? 2) Yes??? So why did he? Because it seems like it was written that he did give it up for some shithole job that was pushing mutants and depowered mutants to death. 3) ??? HE’S THE SON OF A JEWISH-ROMA WOMAN? AND THE GRANDSON OF JEWISH AND ROMA HOLCAUST SURVIVORS??? IS IT BECAUSE HE WASN’T GAY? OR BECAUSE HE NEVER SAID HE WAS BI ON PAGE? 4) ??????  Fair; but also: see rebuttal #2. Why is he at a shit job if he doesn’t wanna wait? 6) Oh wow..... really? HE WAS MEANT TO BE PRICKLY?? HE WAS MEANT TO BE “”THE TEAM SOCIOPATH””

YOU MEAN HOW HE OBVIOUSLY WASN’T WORRIED ABOUT KATE, DESPITE KNOWING THAT SHE WAS WITH THE REST OF THE TEAM? (Dear God, I ship EliKate so hard but that’s a story for another time)

OOR HOW ABOUT HIM LITERALLY STICKING UP FOR HIS MOTHER - a woman, by the way, he straight up said “What’s the point if she is our mother?” because his own mother mistreated him so badly that he doubts Wanda actually cares about him - AGAINST THE FUCKING X-MEN???

NUMBERS  are  just  numbers.  This  you  tell  yourself  when  you  dig  blunt,  chewed  nails  into  the  tattooed  barcode  across  pale  wrist,  fading  as  the  years  pass.  Beneath  them  courses  mutant  blood,  blood  that  made  you  less  than  a  Shepherd  and  more  nameless,  more  susceptible  to  the  injustice  your  kind  faced.
