I'm going to share the first conversation of my two main protags of my (unpublished) book! This is before realisations are made about each other and stuff so...it's not really spoilers I guess. It'll probably be altered later on anyways haha
The rustling of a nearby bush brought Viridi back to reality. Cautiously, she got up and took a step back from the noise, hand flitting under her cloak to rest near her bow. “Uh… hello? If there’s anyone living over there, show yourself! If not, please keep to yourself.” There came another rustle, and the head of a girl popped up. She had brown hair that fell down to the middle of her back, with two buns on the top of her head. Curious brown eyes looked over at Viridi as the girl examined her.
“Who’re you?” Not even a hello.
“Does it really matter?” Viridi cautiously said, “I mean, finding someone showing up out of the foliage randomly doesn’t exactly scream…”
“Maybe.” She shrugged, letting her hand fall back to her side.
“Well, mystery being,” The girl walked over, sticking out her right hand. Viridi stared down at it, blinking slowly. “I’m Lynn! Lynn Eld, if you’re being specific.”
“Well then, Lynn,” Viridi grasped the girl’s hand, “I’m Viridi. And… the rest of my name is unimportant.” The other girl, luckily, didn’t press on the matter.
“Cool name. Unique.” She nodded, using her free hand to brush stray wisps of hair out of her face. “So then, Viridi. With such a unique name as yours, where are you from?” Lynn let go of Viridi’s hand.
“Why would I tell a stranger where I live?” Viridi asked, observing Lynn’s features a bit more now that they were having a conversation. She was dressed casually, with a backpack slung across one shoulder and what looked to be a spear also strapped to her back. Funnily enough, it didn’t look like any elven spear she had seen, and she’d seen the entire armoury back in the palace. This girl seemed to be her age, after further observation, but it did seem she was rather… short.
“Curiosity is a thing that latches onto you and doesn’t yield. Doesn’t help I don’t do this thing called think before you speak either.” Lynn shrugged, then squinted. “Why don’t you take down your hood?” It was rather out of the blue, but it seemed to be an innocent enough question. After all, Viridi could be anyone. A bit of caution never hurt. “You’re not a criminal on the run, are you?”
“Now you seem even more suspicious.”
Viridi sighed, before pulling down her hood. For the love of Vihaan and everything holy. First, she’d been compared to a villain by her own sister, and now this short girl was saying she was one too! The nerve. With her hood out of the way, Viridi’s face was much more clear, along with the wavy blonde hair framing it.
Lynn folded her arms. Viridi thought she was going to recognise her, or something like that (as it was something that happened all the time back ‘home’), but the girl simply said “You have bags under your eyes.”
“I do?” She touched just under her eyes
“Why don’t you believe me? You look exhausted, Vi.”
“I’ve been up all night,” Viridi shrugged, running a hand through her hair, then pausing the motion. “‘Vi’? What’s with-”
“I see, I see.” Lynn nodded, completely brushing over the fact she’d already given Viridi a nickname. They’d only just met!
“You seem far too casual.”
“Aren’t you?” Lynn quickly countered. “Besides, I’m probably one of the least ‘casual’ in my village.” Lynn huffed, tucking her hair behind her ears.
if you can't tell, Lynn doesn't think
they're both a bit silly
