Watched a 3 hour plot summary of the Dream SMP just to see what all those teenagers in 2020 were on about and I've come away from it with the conclusion that, corollary to my joke that The Locked Tomb is "Homestuck if it was good", the Dream SMP is Homestuck if it was bad
Having the context for this now makes it so much funnier

People in the tags of my other diy bottle caps pins post pointed out there was a version without glue so I'm gonna explain it as well even if it's more well-known
you need
bottle caps (the ones made of metal obv)
pliers
safety pins
pull tabs (torn from drink cans)
pinch the edge of the cap and fold it towards the bottom side of the cap in one place, then do it again a second time on the opposite side
trap a safety pin under the pull tab but over the folded sides of the cap. make sure it's still possible to open and close the safety pin. you might have to slightly bend the tab in the middle to make room for the safety pin
pinch the edge of the cap and fold it towards the bottom side of the cap again in order to trap the pull tab under it
continue folding and flattening the cap until the pull tab holding the safety pin is completely trapped. unless you're very very lucky, the other side won't be perfectly round nor perfectly flat, but still! congrats! you made a diy button/pin with stuff you mostly found on the ground!
now paint the other side with whatever you like and varnish it and stuff. have fun be free
Everyone liked the color charts I test printed for Basilisk so much, I felt compelled made a nice version! Great for anyone that has an interest in Risograph printing, historical pigments, or weird medieval marginalia.

would y'all happen to know of any databases/collections of photos or art references of people with facial differences? maybe in the vein of FatPhotoRef (a website with self-submitted pose references with fat models)?
I'm a learning visual artist and I've found one of the best ways for me to hone some aspect of drawing is to do timed sketches from photo references. I'm going to focus on facial expression soonish and want to cover people with various facial differences as well as the typically non-facial-difference-having models on mainstream reference sites. Any resources would be appreciated--even just non-art-focused websites with lots of neutral/positive photos of people with facial differences that I can sketch!
Thanks for all the work you do!
Hello!
The closest one to what you describe is probably Positive Exposure, which aims to photograph and portray all kinds of disabled people (not just visibly disabled) in a less medicalized/dehumanizing way. If you know which conditions cause facial differences then you can go through their albums and pick some of them out - there's a ton of them. The one I linked goes to their ichthyosis shoot.
Here are some other photo resources I do know of, but just be aware they might be underwhelming for what you're looking for;
Portrait Positive - focuses on women with facial and bodily differences;
HOW DO YOU C ME NOW? - focuses on people with large birthmarks;
Here I Am - focuses on adults and seniors with Down Syndrome;
About Face - focuses on people with various kinds of facial paralysis, mostly Bell's palsy
Classic Stock Photo Website - exactly what it says.
These are video resources, obviously less convenient, but you can try screenshotting and redrawing a shot that you like;
#FearNoFace
I Am More Than Just Your Villain
AboutFace's Awareness Videos (unrelated to the other link named similarly)
Outside these you can always try looking for models/actors with facial differences. Some you can look up include Adam Pearson, Catrin Pugh, Austin Halls, Justin Stewart, Alison Midstokke, Loide Ndemueda, or Turia Pitt.
I hope this helps! Good luck drawing

Tutorial on drawing characters/OCs who have some sort of facial paralysis. It doesn't cover all possible variants because I was using mirror as my main reference lawl
Keep in mind that this is an introductory drawing tutorial and has some generalizations in it, so not every “X is Z” statement will be true for Actual People 👍
Consider supporting me on ko-fi if you find this to be helpful.

Getting back into the swing of things
My zine on vending for the first time! I wish I hadn't waited so long to start and now hopefully others can start too!
hii sorry for the annoying question... i was wondering how you bind your zines/comics, and do you print them yourself?
It's not annoying at all! Yes I print them myself, except if it's a long comic (20+pages). In that case, I save up to get a bunch printed at a print house. I send them a PDF and they do the rest :-D
But for little zines, I always print them at my local library! My 8-page zines are made with this technique (youtube-search "single sheet 8 page zine fold" for more instructions), though I often glue the pages at the end cus I don't like them flapping open (this is an unnecessary step, I just like to do it even though it's very fickle)
I also often add a separate piece of card-stock as a cover after folding+gluing. Sometimes decorate with stickers.. and then I staple it :-D with a regular office-stapler
If there's more than 8-pages, or if I don't wanna do the single-sheet 8-page fold, I use online2pdf to put files together (in the layout-tab, pick the "Booklet (In order to bind a book)" option. Then I save that and print the pages at the library, and staple them myself.
Hope it helps!
