Rammstein on Reality Chek TV (Mutter Tour Era)

We played one day a week in the basement of our house, and we made noise.

We tried to be bad and dirty, and after a year, people told us...

"We like this. We don't like other bands, regular good bands. We like this project."

They hoped to entertain America. But when they arrived, they realized that Americans, like everyone else, expect entertainment and hope for something interesting.

It was hard growing up in East Germany. There were standards set by these people, and they were only...

about 1.20 meters tall. It was hard to get any taller.

We never discuss lyrics, even in German. Not even in German, because everyone can sing whatever they want, and our

lyrics... they can be interpreted in different ways.

Never say we mean it. We said what you think. And it's always different from what we think.

At the beginning of the Rammstein show, we didn't do anything. We just stood on stage,

the singer gets bored, and We started slowly setting things on fire.

Our first experience with fire was when we doused the audience with gasoline.

We laid a gas pipe and carried it through the hall, because at the beginning...

We had about 30-50 people at the concert, and there was enough space

to organize it all.

It's been 24 years since this quote from Richard's interview with Rock Sound, and yet I find it still quite telling - how he views happiness and the overall work a person has to go through to overcome things. For his 59th birthday, I wish Richard that he has reached this point he set out to accomplish, or that he has now at least come very close to it.
