Silk threads of human history

'Vigil The Pure Silk'. Original design in gouache and body colour by Edward McKnight Kauffer, and an original poster issued by Vigil Silk. Britain, 1919. The design is a part of the V&A Museum Collections, while the original poster has been passed to numerous collections, this particular was presented to the MOMA by the author.

Woven silk with 'lion-strangler' design; silk compound twill. Coptic, Syrian or Byzantine silk, created somewhere inbetween 780-900. Similar items have been part of collections both the V&A museum and MAK in Vienna.
