"It's not complicated" he said wearily. "We build up people's hopes, then yank the rug out. We seduce them. We drive them to wicked acts. We do this over and over again. It's Demon 101."

Marriage had been something I never sought out for myself. But, I did marry someone, naively and optimistically. Our love was slow and molten like lava. I had always heard about romances like fireworks and wondered if maybe I had done it all wrong for years. A decade passed and I learned that the consistency of lava and growing together meant so much more than I could have ever fathomed. I wondered how had that young couple ever taken that step for themselves not knowing what all it would entail? But, everyday I am more thankful that we chose to do what we did. And for the first time I've felt confident in the decision to marry. It's so strange to me.... but deeply joyful.

Soo.. I was so excited to post this that I posted an image that wasn't ready to post, and now I can't do a switch-out without deleting the whole thing.
The correct image is below. Once I work out how to delete the top image, it will be gone.
(For those playing spot the difference, half of the "8" on the right-hand side was in a hidden layer when I was drawing the overline, and I forgot to bring it back to the front before I exported it and uploaded it to tumblr. I made a mistake. I'm only human. There are also about 700 layers in the raw version of this)

In these more stoic cultures, it’s like, if I don’t know you, you’re not in. But the moment you are in, I will fucking die for you. Once Shane was in, Ilya was like, “You’re mine forever. I will do anything for you.” — Connor Storrie
Read a book so good it put me in a reading slump.

Title: The Last Bloodcarver Duology
Author: Vanessa Le
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2024
Genres: fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery
Blurb: Nhika is a bloodcarver - a cold-hearted, ruthless being who can alter human biology with just a touch. In the industrial city of Theumas, she is seen not as a healer, but a monster that kills for pleasure. When Nhika is caught using her bloodcarving abilities during a sham medical appointment, she's captured by underground thugs and sold to an aristocratic family to heal the last witness of their father's murder...but as Nhika delves deeper into their investigation amidst the glitz of Theumas' wealthiest district, she begins to notice parallels between this job and her own dark past. When she meets alluring-yet-entitled physician's aide Ven Kochin, she's forced to question the true intent behind this murder. In a society that outcasts her, Kochin seems drawn to her...though he takes every chance he gets to push her out of his opulent world. When Nhika discovers that Kochin is not who he claims to be, and that there is an evil dwelling in Theumas that runs much deeper than the murder of one man, she must decide where her heart and allegiance truly lie...and if she's willing to become the dreaded bloodcarver Theumas fears to save herself and the ones she's vowed to protect.

This was what Darwin was trying so hard to get his readers to see: that there is never just one way of ranking nature's organisms. To get stuck on a single hierarchy is to miss the bigger picture, the messy truth of nature, the "whole machinery of life." The work of good science is to try and peer beyond the "convenient" lines we draw over nature. To peer beyond intuition where something wilder lives. To know that in every organism at which you gaze, there is complexity you will never comprehend.

Just so fun!
Death is a fascinating subject to touch upon in the present. Adding the science fiction genre only makes it more interesting.
If you replace a single plank on a ship every day, when does it stop being the same ship?
What if you toss that ship down a blender voluntarily?
Ashton captures a bit of deep philosophy while also keeping a humorous tone throughout the whole story. It’s a very good balance that will keep you reading.
Looking forward to seeing Robert Pattinson bring Mickey to life and die an extra 10 times for our amusement.
