A soul wrapped in shadows

Emma wasn’t sure what she was doing. Life with Hook hadn’t ended up how she expected it to. They were just too different and it didn’t work out. For some reason, her first instinct once she was able to leave was to find Regina.

Her first day back in Storybrooke was interesting. People were concerned, but for the most part they respected her choice. She spent some time with her parents before heading to the Enchanted Forest.

Once in the Enchanted Forest, she started off for the castle. The guards took her inside and had her before the queen. It had been so long since she had seen her, and it was like nothing had changed.

Emma watched as Regina magically transformed her appearance, having missed her, “That would be great actually, thank you.”

Purple would always be her colour, she didn’t want to change that, why should she? But the sight of Emma in that purple sweater made her think maybe, just maybe, it was a better colour for her instead. She was striking in it. “Would you prefer the castle or a room in my house, even with my girls I do have one spare room. It’s yours if you want it.”

She may be the queen but she felt.....better not being treated like royalty, it was strange wasn’t it? Finally she had everything she wanted, the crown, the kingdoms, the servants, and she didn’t want much of any of it other then the crown. She was a good ruler and she would never stop wanting that but the rest, just wasn’t important.

“They do cave, but… it’s not always because I’m determined in a nice way,” she admitted with a light smile. She wished she could be that strong and composed, capable of asserting her will without losing patience, but sometimes her anger simply sneaked in as well as her resolve to do whatever it took to get something done, including dangerous or inappropriate things. “I’m trying to learn to be better, however, I can’t cause a diplomatic accident because, say, I hit a prince over the head and took what I wanted. I blame my dad for that instinct.” 

She didn’t get to brace herself before Regina used magic to take them away, looking around in surprise. “We are dressed so nicely, we should show off,” she started saying, while her mind reeled to decide what to do next. She didn’t want to overstep and hurt Regina’s feelings asking too many questions about a painful matter, but how could she not try to understand more? “Are you sure? And it’s been years… Are you sure you are alright with this? Being close to this woman anyway?” 

She couldn’t help but laugh at the image of Emma Swan getting pissed off, picking up a nearby rod used to show authority and slamming it on a princes head for getting too fresh, she loved it. “If you did that you would just call me and I’d erase memories for you, simple magic really.....quite fun at times too. Make them think they walked into a wall or like they lost grip on their own weapon and had it fly up then hit themselves in the head, put some humility into them too no?”

“Nah! Y-You are the big fat Dork!” 

Emma gave her a surprised, and of course pleased, look at the compliment. “Oh, I know men find me attractive. Most men. Well, not many of the royal ones when I open my mouth and talk, but that’s often reciprocated since we feel so different about life. But at the same time, I also know that my power, or charm, sometimes is… not for everyone. I do thank you, of course, you are a gorgeous woman yourself as I’m sure you know. But I promise you, there are some people that could never see me as beautiful if only because of my extravagant personality. And I’m not fretting to change that.” If anything it was almost a matter of pride, and Pinocchio had pointed out before that she should at least try to not look for a fight, because she wasn’t just herself but a louder version when someone disliked her, and it was quite on purpose.  So ‘beautiful’ in the way Regina was describing didn’t seem fitting to Emma, that was for more ethereal people. 

“Really?” now Regina had Emma’s full attention - someone else’s love life always did - and the princess wondered how come they had taken so long to talk about it, “Does she know? What happened?”  Knowing about Daniel, Emma could only hope she was alive and well.

She shook her head, “I didn’t say attractive, I said impossible to resist, there’s a difference. Namely you’re thinking of simply beauty when I’m talking in every way, as a leader, as a woman, as a person......even the blind nobles that argue with you, do they resist you when you put your mind to it or do they eventually cave?”

Well, at least clearly she didn’t have to worry about Regina following the ‘women and especially princesses must be chaste’ mentality, which meant she could be more honest.  “You are too kind… and I do loosen my bodices a little for a reason,” she laughed at her own confession, “Harder to resist and all that. No but seriously, I always must be so careful when in my own kingdom, I leave this sort of thing for the times when I’m travelling and far from here, I’d rather if my family didn’t hear. Not to mention royalty, they can be a problem, use that sort of thing against me. Not that I don’t trust my people, but gossip is impossible to control, and I’m not too secretive, I can’t stand the idea of acting as if I’m doing something criminal, so I prefer to be honest about it but not give people who leave near my castle any reason to ask or wonder or discuss. That said, when I’m free to do as I please, I am definitely happy. I don’t know about you with your men or women or both, but I really have fun… charming them. I’m one for taking the lead in this matters-in any matter, to be fair.”

"Swan, you are impossible to resist.....not just when you loosen your bodice but period. Sometimes I wonder if you realize your own power, or beauty.” A shake of her head, and another snap of her fingers, a purple puff rising around her and showing her own outfit change. 

“Kazu is scared of a twig.~”

“Siren Head IS scary! You’re just mean!”

“No it isn’t, and yes, yes I am.”

She shook her head, “Imagine if he was a fourty-five foot tall and that means even if he’s a twig, being at least five or six feet wide.”

Regina just stared at the woman, it had been quite some time since she had seen her but....somehow she hadn’t lost any of her beauty, no if anything she had grown more beautiful, Regina truly had it bad didn’t she. Yet how could she approach her? That was the question, it wasn’t that she was afraid of bothering her, or upsetting her, but she wanted to make sure she handled it right. Ever since she started ruling the united realms things had changed, but one thing definitely had not....she still all but idolized and worshiped the daughter of her former enemy.

The ring landed on Lip’s breasts, and she looked down at it with a bewildered expression that must have cost a lot. Then again Regina did seem like someone whom would spend a lot of money on her loved ones. There was a notable pause as Lip listened and moved her foot down.

Once Regina was done speaking, the servant nodded sadly and soon shifted her body carefully so that the ring did not drop and soon she was on her feet with the jewelry being carefully held in her left claw. 

“I shall keep it with me for that time, around my neck. You will not lose me, you will never loose me my queen…p-please never forget this…I shall keep repeating it if I have to.”

She nodded, smiling just a bit more. “It’s something ingrained is all, the worry is always going to be a part of me, but knowing that does make me happy. Truly. You’re amazing Passionlip, a treasure.” She would spend a lot on that, not because it was needed but because of the tradition, she couldn’t spend three months salary on it, she’d have to buy a town for that, so instead she simply got something custom made that fit what she wanted.

Little did Regina know, but Lip had arrived early for their little lunch and was planning to surprise the Witch when she heard what the other woman said and sighed softly before making her presence known, and she spoke all while blushing.

“I…would not be against it dear, but not now…it’s moving too quickly, I would like to spend more time together as girlfriends first. There is a lot going on for both of us and we’ll need to figure everyone out before hand.” 

The Alter Ego moved closer and using her feet turned Regina around to look at her. 

“Trust me, I am not going anywhere.”

She jumped at that, the ring flying from her hand right to Passionlip, it was a beautiful, absolutely gorgeous ring, a pure platinum band and two diamonds cut into hearts, each one was 0.25 carats, and right on either side was a tiny purple sapphire, representing the two of them and then Kazura and Kazuradrop. It was a symbolic thing, nothing more, but the ring was easily worth fourty or fifty thousand. Not that money was her focus. She smiled at that, nodding. “I worried about that.....when I’ve been happy I’ve lost it. Not by having them run away either.” 

She shook her head, “I’m not going to punish you unless you tell me you always spy on me regularly. Besides…I just worry she will think I’m moving too fast, but every time I become happy like this it gets taken from me, so if I don’t I’m afraid I’ll loose her.”

“Yes about what, who will say it? Wait Kazura…..what exactly are you talking about young lady? Have you been spying on me again? You know that I’ve scolded Kazuradrop for that very thing, I didn’t think I’d have to do that to you too….” She paused, a small smile slowly forming at the idea though.
