You know how acd-johnlock shippers sit in front of the books like "okay so they were out of london in all three 1895 cases documented, the time of the oscar wilde trials, therefore, queer." (im one of them)
basically, straight people do that too, but theyre trying to proof, that watson had three wives.
John and Mary meet and marry in 1888. In a story specifically taking place in 1887, Watson talks of a wife, which motivated Holmes scholar, and my personal rival, William Baring Gould, to invent a new wife. Constance Watson, a woman from America, who dies in December of 1887. She is an OC.
The third wife? The story The Blanched Soldier, was published in the last batch of stories, and takes place in 1903, which in the timeline, is about a decade after Mary's passing. "Watson had abandoned me for a wife" writes Holmes. This is the third wife.
What these scholars then choose to ignore, is that there's inconsistencies like this between stories all the time. In The Red Headed League, Watson looks at a newspaper from just two months ago, April, implying its June, only for the story to be established to take place in October.
Mary calls Watson James at some point.
Yes, some of the Johnlock evidence is also created through these ACD created plot holes, but typically these scholars claiming the three wives, would scoff at the concept of a queer Holmes and, even more so, Watson.
I believe, that you cannot use the inconsistencies to proof one theory and then disregard them entirely when theyre used to proof another.
I think the three wives are a ridiculous concept, and i like the johnlock explanation of "he invented Mary to avoid suspicion, but he was bad at keeping his story straight" much better. but if one of the straight headcanon people can find an explanation for the 1895 thing, or It was Worth A Wound and all the other gay junk that fits into their explanation, I will tolerate.
