A yell ripped through your throat as you sliced through another training droid.
Your lightsaber hummed softly as your chest rose and fell with ragged breaths. Sweat raced down your tense muscles, burning your eyes as you squeezed them shut in an attempt to calm your erratic breathing.
HI defrosting this account for the winter season. I honestly just lost passion for writing BUT IM BACK. Gonna try and continue with my multi-chapter from earlier this year, tho may just forward a little (a have a few things in mind)

Love your drabble "Cold" with our beloved Captain!!! Could I request a continuation with jedi!reader and Rex and the prompt âwell, iâm pretty irresistibleâ?
yessss!! iâm so glad u liked it! i do love a good jedi!reader x rex to keep me goingâŚ
Rex wasnât one for end-of-mission celebrations. You found that typical; he worked too hard during them, then refused to relax after them.
Youâd sometimes go out to 79s with your men after a long mission, and often drag Rex along with you. It had almost become tradition; watching as Fives and Jesse drank themselves silly and became dancers for the night. During this mission especially, you had craved the warmth of the bar and the liquor it served. Something about freezing cold temperatures had made you miss the buzz of a night out, and the idiotic temperament of clones who, even just for a night, felt free and young and fun.
But you turned down Echoâs sweet offer to join them once again. Theyâd awed and booed, but waved with smiles as they left in one big clambering pack. Youâd laughed. Your body was too tired to dance and drink.
âGoing out tonight?â Rex asked as you entered his quarters. You dropped your bags dramatically, underlining the sigh that left your lips.
He was sitting at his desk, eyes glued to the datapad in his hands, but asked with adoring eyes as you jumped up to sit across from him on his desk.
âNah.â You attempted to peak at the words displayed on the small device in his hands, but couldnât quite see. âWell maybe.â
The Captain leant back in his chair to size up your expression.
You smiled as he glanced over your face, happy to be alone in his company.
âMaybe Iâd prefer some time with a nonspecific Captain.â
He smirked as he crossed his arms over his chest and lent back further, now looking almost smug.
âHe sounds lucky.â
âYeah,â Your smile grew as you leant forward, closer to his grin. âhe is so very lucky.â
Your faces were very close, comfortably close. There was something so sweet about relaxed attention that made you fall in love with love over and over again. Youâd happily stay locked in his auburn eyes for as long as your eyelids would stay open; but tonight, you needed energy. Perhaps not 79âs energy, alcohol didnât seem entirely appetising after your steady diet of caf and a shocking amount of ration packets, but certainly Coruscant.
Coruscant was beautiful, after all. Big cities full of life and chaos always were.
Your lips met in a chaste kiss, more loving than anything else. Happy to be alone together. Happy to be happy.
âI want to do something.â You prompted as you broke away, a grin sprouting. Your face didnât move an inch, even with your spurt of excitement.
âLike what?â Rex asked, smiling. It was obvious from his face he was completely happy with just skipping over the kissing-part of your interaction.
âYou know, like, go out.â
He laughed and tucked a loose strand of your hair behind your ear, admiring the light in your eyes.
âAre you asking me on a date, General?â
You rolled your eyes, but leant in to kiss him again, a hand now lingering on the side of his cheek. You paused, no more than a few centimetres away.
âDepends if youâd say yes.â
Now he almost rolled his eyes, closing the very small gap and planting a kiss against your smiling lips. You could tell by the way his mouth was curved that he was trying not to smile himself.
âIâd say yes.â Rex shrugged, attempting to be nonchalant. He leant back into his chair with a smug grin.
âWell of course you would, I am pretty irresistible.â It was your turn to be smug.
The Captain smiled, wild and in love, and laughed lightly.

It wasnât often that you got hurt. Well, perhaps it was, but not often enough for you to get any better at being a patient in the medbay.
It wasnât a skill youâd familiarised yourself with at least.
But alas, here you sat with what seemed to be a mild concussion, and a tired medic trying not to snap at your dazed questions.
In between you almost passing out and gagging consistently, Kix had handed you a small survey to fill out, as opposed to him having to listen to constant babble of symptoms you thought were relevant. It was easy; simple questions referring to the incident and the physicalityâs of your condition to help doctors diagnose you, yet youâd apparently never seen a more confusing exam than this one.
ââAm I still bleedinâ?â You spoke, looking up from the thin paper in your hands, having not intelligibly answered a single question.
âYou never were.â Kix answered in an unattentive huff. He wouldâve ordinarily said something funnier; a short quip if anything, but that would only be if he wasnât currently trying to find some way of sorting out your concussion without going crazy. Itâd been a long day. âFinish that, please?â He asked, pleading.
âBut my lip?â A short and stifiled laugh followed your panicked reply.
âRex, is my lip bleeding?â You asked again. Comically confused.
âNo, itâs not. It only bled a little bit for a short while.â The captain grinned. That shit-eating grin he did whenever you did something he could later make fun of. And oh how he would.
âOh.â You uttered. âRight, well can I go?â
Your feet swung off the bed (whether you wanted them to or not) but as you attempted to stand, you toppeled over and into Rexâs quickly un-crossing arms.
âKriff.â You muttered.
âStop falling for the Captain.â Kix smiled as his head popped back up from his medical cabinets.
âOh.â You laughed, a slightly childish giggle having not gotten the joke just yet. âOh wait⌠no.â
âCâmon, sit back down. Kix, go back to being tired and busy.â Rex tried to use his âCaptainâ tone, but it fell down rather quickly as his tilted brow was replaced with yet another shit-eating grin.
âYessir.â The reply sounded.
Kix shuffled out of the room, looking for a bacta pack Rex assumed, and left you two alone.
âRex, stop staring.â You muttered after a moment had passed, still trying to decipher the paper in your hands.
âSârry Câyare.â Even in your state, that nickname still gave you a spark in your stomach. âTrynaâ see if your gonna pass out.â
You laughed lightly, shaking your head as you answered a few of the questions.
âCaptain Medic.â You jibed with a giggle.
âWouldnât it be Medic Rex?â Rex laughed again.
Now you did look up; creased brows but with a smile.
âShut up.â
And he did. The Captain left you to work on your minor test paper as he sat down and examined his own wounds.
Youâd both been in 79âs when the incident occurred; partly the reason why Kix was acting so sour.
Neither you or Rex could remember specifically the cause of the disagreement, but heâd guess it was someone disrespecting the GAR. It wasnât unheard of, certainly.
But nonetheless, youâd thrown the first punch, been unable to fight properly with the warmth of alcohol still hugging your senses, and landed directly on the sticky bar floor with a concussion.
After that you couldnât remember, but Rex would later tell you how you âswoonedâ when he picked you up to take you to Kix. Youâd blush, but not that much. It wasnât the first time youâd openly âswoonedâ for the Captain, nor would it be the last. And heâd be the exact same, so really there wasnât much to blush about. StillâŚ
âIâm gonna need that form now.â Kix walked back into the small medbay room carrying a new cup of caf, having emptied the last one in record speed. Rexâs deductions had been wrong; no wonder, he was struggling to deny the effect his few drinks had had on him.
You nodded with an aloof frown on your face. âOh, right, yeah.â
After scanning over your answers one last time, you handed the paper over to the medic.
Kix sipped his drink, placed it next to where the Captain was sat, or slumped, and took the paper from your outstretched hand.
He read it for a moment, then laughed. It was the sort of laugh that didnât come after something funny, instead it was born more so out of complete exasperation.
âRex, Iâm getting some aspirin, you do this.â He âlaughedâ again.
At this the Captain jolted upright again, and took the paper.
You watched the exchange, slightly confused, and then watched again as your medic walked into the corridor once more. You couldnât tell if the aspirin was for you or him.
âCyare.â Rex grinned; the shit-eating one, as always.
âWhat?â
âHow did you fail a survey?â
It was going to be a long night, for all three of them. Though, perhaps less so for the poor medic, the experience was not all bad. Not when Rex had such a constant stream of entertainment from his favourite source.
Rex x Reader with kiss prompt # 10 mayhaps??? Blondie has a special place in my heart
This is my new Fav, Rex and the reader just unconsciously giving kisses and then realizing .03 seconds later and freaking out internally and trying to scrape up an excuse. I'm gonna make this funny because... I need laughter
I was gonna also make this Rebels Rex but I haven't seen Rebels I just thought it would be fun so we're sticking with Clone wars
10-A hello/good-bye kiss that is given without thinking - where neither person thinks twice about it.
It was a truth universally known that when on a strenuous mission and beginning yet another harsh day, your brain tended to go on autopilot. Stresses were high, tight. Just examining mines, explosives, bombs, disarming all of those and more, it was enough to make a demolition expert cry. Which you had done from sheer exhaustion. Stress crying was a negative trait and you certainly did not enjoy it.
Your only solace on this mission had been Rex. He had been steady, your rock, your security. He brought you caf, he made you chuckle, and when you had to collapse into a jellied pile of exhaused tears, he was there to comfort you.
You cursed to yourself and rubbed your temples, fingers moving to the bridge of your nose. You grimaced and tugged your hand back, examining the blurb of pain that had just exploded in your fingers. The white bubbling blisters on your palms, fingers, they protested. Cursing under your breath, you turned to the closest cabinet and threw it open, rummaging through, seeking bandages for your wounds.
âYou good there?â That steady voice questioned from the doorway. You felt his presence fill the room as he approached, quickly taking your hand and examining it. âMm. Blisters?â He examined your wounds briefly, reaching into the cabinet and grasping a small packet of bandages.
âYeah,â You offered a sheepish smile, ignoring how his dark eyes set off your nerves more than any bomb you had ever encountered. You watched him carefully pull apart the paper backing, and he tenderly applied the medical pads to your wounded hands. Those hands, experienced with war, were somehow so gentle and soft on yours, caring. You fought off counting the number of callouses on his hands from just the sensation. You watched, his brow furrowed in focus, memorizing the crows feet at the corners of his eyes. Your gaze darted away and focused on counting the ceiling tiles instead.
Rex chuckled quietly, lowering your hand- you could have sworn you felt a subtle squeeze from his fingers. âThere. Better.â
You thanked him, cheeks remarkably warm, and you moved past him quietly. âThank you, Captain. I appreciate it.â
âNo problem.â Rex walked next to you, long strides surprisingly quick. You shifted a little, sight bleary from exhaustion, and from the purple circles under his eyes he looked like he was as little rested as you were. âSay, I like working with you. Itâs a shame we arenât assigned to more missions together.â
A chuckle escaped your throat and you nodded softly. âI do, too.â
You both walked together, the doors to the briefing room opened. The both of you entered, and the warm feeling of sleepiness ate at your brain, still fogging it up. âIâll see you later?â You asked, softly, looking up at Rex. Duty called, but his gentleness called louder.
âYeah.â Rex smiled and leaned down, not at all shocking to you for some reason, and his lips pressed gently to yours. âBye.â
âBye!â You chirped, rotating to walk out. The two of you froze, mid-step, and you whipped around and stared at the plethora of others in the room staring at you. Commander Tano looked absolutely delighted, and General Skywalker was stifling a laugh by rubbing his chin. Nearby, Fives and Hardcase had abanoned the blueprints and were knee-deep in laughter, and poor Rex- the back of his next was flaming red.
You exhaled quickly, practically running to the two other clones. âBye!â You leaned up, kissing them quickly on their cheeks. Fives was still wheezing with glee, waving his fingers half-heartedly with good humor. Hardcase was damn near close to collapsing on the floor with laughter. âThatâs just... how I say bye. Yep. Bye!â You waved, looking at the General, who was now leaning on the table for support as he cackled. Commander Tano shook her head, mouth breaking apart in silent giggles.Â
âPlease donât say bye to me, then.â She rubbed her face, giggling, and you made a strained noise of alarm and practically ran out, hoping the next explosive you broke apart would simply blow you up and you would never have to come to terms with what your autopilot self had just done. Rex stuttered a few excuses behind you, rubbing his face, cheeks still aflame, and your face went redder- but you couldnât say you didnât enjoy that millisecond of gentleness you had received from the equally tired captain.
iâm just really looking for some pointers in terms of my writing.
i mostly write captain rex - so if thereâs any content people want to see in that category then please, PLEASE, tell me and iâll produce. i love writing but itâs difficult when youâre all out of ideas.
the same goes for any other characters people want more content of. iâve written for fox, wolffe and echo (all tagged on my masterlist) so again, let me know if you want more specific content with those as references to how i write.
any other characters i am more than happy to write for - iâve been looking to write fives, jesse and kix but not sure how to make it appealing to everyone.
so once again TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE FROM ME PLEASE THANK YOU i wanna provide good content for yall <33

Jaidaâs feet felt weighted as she plodded along the corridor. In fact her entire body did. She needed caf and, among other things, she needed peace and quiet.
But alas, as is the way of war, sheâd have to settle with yet another delinquent briefing, which would most likely result in another mission for her to loose herself in. How fun.
Peace wasnât an option as of right now, but caf certainly was. So as any ordinary Jedi going through dramatic changes to their moral code while fighting a war which had so far gone against everything they had ever been taught by their now dead master; Jaida went and got caf.
Now she stood outside the war room, significantly late, but with a half drunk cup in her hand. On any regular day, she wouldâve surely rushed in; profoundly apologising for her misconduct and directing all her attention to any matters presented to make up for her tardiness.
But instead she stood and stared at the uninspiring, off-white and dented plastoid door with almost a scowl. After a second, she took a swig and entered.
âJaida! I was wondering if you had gotten lost.â Obi-wan smiled warmly. There was a hint of a jeer in his aristocratic tone.
âOh force I really am late arenât I?â She tried to laugh, setting down her cup on a surface sheâd found (ignoring the future ring it would leave), snapping into a character that would resemble her more awake self.
âWhatâve I missed?â Jaida asked as she settled into place beside Anakin and across from Obi-wan.
The holo-projector before her displayed the usual; a barren-ish landscape with red dots across it, symbolising places sheâd most likely have to risk her and her menâs lives before moving onto the next tiny red dot.
It felt fallacious to belittle that sacrifice to so little as those red dots, especially when theyâd been planted like seeds as if theyâre cost was unimportant. To Jaida, red dots had begun to look more like casualty reports and defeated medics; so much more than a speck on a map in a heated war room in the middle of comfortable Coruscant.
But as is the way of war, she thought.
âAfter the failure to capture Grievous on Salucami, we know his ships will be in this western quadrant.â Obi-wan gestured now to the map of the galaxy, the holo map had apparently changed as Jaida was blinking, and more specifically to a highlighted section of space.
Her red dots would be minuscule by now.
âOur fear is that with Grievous now in need of a place to get fuel and rations, heâll attempt to take-over ,in effect, the next planet viable. Which in this caseâ The holomap zoomed into a reddish planet with a dark brown hue surrounding it, âWould be Yeon.â
âYeon?â Jaida asked. âWhatâs on Yeon that Grievous could want?â
Obiwan shifted his weight before speaking. Jaida sighed; sometimes she really did regret asking questions so much, especially when the answer require a deep breath.
âYeon used to be home to a powerful empire, though the dissolution of said empire left the planet vulnerable and corrupt. The wealth still remains, but without proper safeguarding. It isnât unlikely that Grievous hopes to exploit this, and use their land and people to help secure more galactic wins.â He finished with a flourish. He did always make good speeches, however short or dull.
Jaida shivered. The thought of such peaceful people once again being used as pawns in the seperatist game made her stomach turn. Is this what the galaxy had come to? Perhaps that question could be answered another day.
Anakin, who had up until this point been studying his friends demeanour and desperately trying to figure out the reason for her obvious lack of clarity, spoke next.
âOur mission is to intercept their âinvasionâ and protect the people of Yeon before Grievous can even reach them.â
âHuh, fun.â She clicked.
A few more details were flattened out, though they mostly fell on deaf ears as Jaida replayed the events of that morning.
âWeâll leave tonight, get a head start.â
Great, she thought.
The corridor felt like it would never end as Jaida carried a backpack towards her destination. It was half full of ration packs and bacta supplies: in short she had no clue what to pack for. The feeling of unpreparedness sat heavy on her chest, even as she commed Anakin to meet her in the hanger.
As she did, Echo opened the door for her, between beckoning to Hardcase that his helmet was where heâd left it. Jaida almost laughed at how mumsy Echo got the few hours before a mission; it almost matched Kixâs mother hen approach.
âWhereâre we up to?â Jaida asked, hesitantly setting down the bag beside her feet as she looked over the clones all preparing for a mission.
Echo smiled softly, giving one last side eye to his dazed brothers before giving her his full attention âAlmost ready.â
âThank you.â She could always count on Echo, and a warmth spread over her expression, secure in that fact. âWhereâs-â
âHullo!â The other jedi spoke through a cracker in his mouth. âYou good?â
âWhereâd you get that cracker?â
Anakin swallowed. Echo had to suppress his laughter at how much they resembled begrudging siblings.
âHelp me with those crates and Iâll show you.â He shrugged off, beckoning for Jaida to follow his path.
The good news was the Hardcase had managed to locate his stranded helmet, and Fives only laughed for a few minute at how he almost cried that heâd thought heâd lost it: but the bad news was that Jaida realised that she would eventually have to talk to her captain, who was standing by the edge of the hangar with Kix.
Heâd showered, and his pauldron was fixed. He looked so perfectly in control as he watchfully peered over his men. Jaida felt childish almost instantly at the anxiety balled in her stomach at just the thought of having to look at his deep and piercing eyes to talk to him. This was that feeling âcrushesâ gave you, as Anakin would explain, and Jaida didnât get âcrushesâ. Not ever, and not now.
She began to help the clones prepare what few weapons they thought they needed. There wasnât much to sort out and load up, but still among the Torrent company; it was a grand feat.
Jaida was counting reloads and ration packs when she sensed him. Rex, as you could quite obviously expect, was coming closer. She exhaled fiercely out of her nose and picked up the crate sheâd been kneeling over. âHeâs just being a captain, just be a General.â She repeated to herself like a mantra.
But when she looked up and his gaze was already on her, she froze; childish and with a crush.
âYouâre coming too?â Jaida cleared her throat and asked nonchalantly, trying desperately hard to prevent a redness forming on her cheeks.
âOf course.â Rex spoke flatly. His eyebrow twitched slightly as the words left his lips, perhaps testing her meaning.
âBut youâre still injured.â
Now he did raise an eyebrow, âIâll be fine.â
Jaida kissed her teeth, slightly annoyed at her inability to calm herself now.
She nodded as no words formed on her tongue. Nothing to express the ball of emotion in her throat. The Jedi didnât meet his eyes as she turned away.
Rex caught her arm as she went to bring her crate to the ship, but even as he stopped her pivot she was reluctant to meet his gaze.
âJaida-â He tried.
âDonât.â Jaida cut him off, finally glaring at him, then quickly skimming over the room to check if anyone was noticing their âconversationâ.
âJust promise me.â Vulnerability flashed across her face as the words left her mouth, and even those crystallised amber eyes of his couldnât make her believe he would.
Rex bit his lip and flicked back over his men across the room, before looking back at Jaidaâs ask. He nodded slowly, accepting that heâd want the exact same if it were her. Whatever it was that they shared really wasnât simple.
âI promise.â
She smiled slightly, before he let her go and she walked off to the ship.
The company left not long after, but not before Anakin and Jaida managed to bicker over who should fly the ship, then if theyâd brought the right rations, then whether or not they were ready. At least it was entertaining for the clones to watch their Generalâs be so relaxed yet so uppity.
But nonetheless, the company all fitted into their respective places and the ship left. Jaida, after bribing Anakin, was flying the ship. She thought that itâd help her concentrate ready for the next mission, although it did also mean that she wouldnât have to talk to anyone - so, plus.
The journey was rather short, but it certainly wasnât sweet; for each time Jaida didnât have to plant coordinates or watch the pressure levels in the engine, her mind slipped to the events of that morning, over and over again like torture. The guilt and worry pressed heavily against her frame; it was fair to say she was absentminded.
But they made it.
âI think weâre here boys.â Skywalker spoke over the channels.
The landing wasnât rough, but Jaidaâs vision through the ship window was too clouded to navigate properly through the thick air. The ship rocked as it hit the ground, and as the men filed our, their pilot was reluctant to follow.
The company gathered outside, Anakin knocked her shoulder; something he always used to do if she was nervous before a practice or exam. It made her finally exhale the breath sheâd been holding onto.
It was dark when they made it to the village: a small dwelling lit with vibrant lights around each hut and structure. There was a hum in the air of content, they were peaceful people, and their laughter and chatter floated through the company like a warm drink.
Jaida wanted to welcome it, she really did, but she couldnât, not when her head was this scrambled. She was still tired, and still torn between wanting to stay true to her morals and protect Rex, as well as desperately wanting to give in to her heart.
Mind over matter, her master would say. Though it seemed futile now.
Jaida followed her men into the village and tried once more to be content with the sweetness of the air. The sun was hanging low in the sky, but it still illuminated the tops of houses and slopes of hills in spite of the darkening hue encroaching. It was peace, the very kind she needed. Yet it would not breach her armoured skin.
The clones had managed to settle in rather quickly, having now taken off a few bits of armour and their helmets. They were standing and laughing with locals dotted about a wide fire pit, an area which Jaida took to be the market place.
After a cheer of babbling and exuberance calling for them, drums began playing in the background as entertainment; and the villagers seemed excited to have new guests for what looked like the first time in a while. They passed out food to the solidiers, colours of orange and green mixing on platters of fruits and perfectly cooked meat. After having a drank a few of their offered drinks, of which their alcohol quantity was unknown, Fives, Jesse and Hardcase danced to the beat as Echo and Kix tried not to laugh.
Jaida watched with an absent grin. She was resting on a crate with a cup of some sweet drink sheâd been given by a swirling child, happy to see them so relaxed. Her view shifted from the gaggle of men to her Captain, who was laughing handsomely at his brothersâ feeble attempts. She tried to ignore the pounding in her stomach growing at how his face was illuminated so perfectly by the evening sun, and how it made her tongue swell to see him aswell so at peace. But it was rather difficult to ignore, especially when she couldnât not-look.
Jaida placed her cup beside her and backed away, leaving the dancing and laughter behind her.
She found herself in the main hall of their largest structure, eyes closed in her own attempt at peace. She could still taste the wafting smell of meats and breads being cooked just a little further away. It smelt like herbs and spices she remembered only faintly from her own travels with her master. Jaida stood, staring at the painting on the closest wall to her when she wasnât instead focused on her closed eyelids. Her brain was too foggy for anything else.
It was silent. Of course the base of the drums and the echoes of her men and their hosts still made their way in and out of the open windows, but it was silent to her. So silent that when footsteps began behind her she almost jumped.
The presence made itâs way to just a step behind her and paused. It didnât take a genius to figure out who it belonged to, but still, Jaida cursed her abilities to identify the warmth and security it brought nonetheless.
âYou left?â Rexâs tone was more a question than a statement, and Jaida didnât open her eyes as he stepped and stood next to her.
âI needed to think without Fivesâ dancing distracting me.â She joked in a low tone.
âYou call that dancing?â
Jaida chuckled lightly at that, meeting his smiling eyeline.
A moment of warmth spread between the two. It was as if the complications of their feelings melted away for a few seconds, and both simply relished the presence of each other. But it was short lived.
âI cant think either.â
Her eyebrows were knitted in slight pain and sadness, something he recognised within his own head. She couldnât speak.
âDo you regret it?â Rex broke the silence between them.
âWhat?â
âThe other night.â
Jaida paused loudly, but spoke with force after a second passed. âNo. I donât. â
Silence again.
âI donât know what to do to make this⌠better.â Jaida admitted, the vulnerability in her voice making her cringe.
Jaida sighed and fixed her almost tearful expression back to that familiar neutral coldness. âI donât even understand it.â She almost whispered.
âNeither do I.â His words were barely there. âI donât think anyone ever does.â
âThen how do you know itâs real?â Jaida swallowed, blinking down her rising dejection.
Rex paused again, but spoke with purpose. He had been brave before, now was no different.
âBecause whenever you enter the room it feels like time stops. I always look for you, like seeing you will change everything. And you know what, it does; everything stops.â
Jaida was shocked to hear the confession, and it made her heart melt when she turned to face him. His face was just as creased as hers; just as pained.
He studied her eyes for a second, almost asking for permission to continue, or even to be dared to do so. But he took in a breath and carried on:
âI knew it when we were stuck in that cave, and you fell asleep against the wall. All I could think of was how perfect you looked. Force, I donât think youâve ever left my head since.â
She smiled. A wilful smile that covered all of her stern face. She knew that feeling he described and it made her stomach erupt as he spoke of it.
Her words fell as a whisper once again. âI canât ask you to risk your entire life on this. But you canât tell how much I want to.â She spoke louder now.
Rexâs eyes softened.
âWeâre at war, Jade. Some things are just worth it.â Rex paused and looked to her. Her eyes held a silent beg. âYouâre worth it.â He wanted to say, but didnât. Perhaps a part of him knew that he didnât need to.
In the dim light, he could hardly see her face at all, but the peace that had spread across it was blindingly clear. Jaida blinked.
And Rex closed the small gap between their faces and pressed his lips against hers; tender and gentle yet proud, as if it was their first. He lifted his hand to cup her face and she melted into his touch, allowing the warmth of his mouth to thaw the cold of her heart. The kiss was acceptance, it was emotion and it was thrill.
âIâm in if youâre in.â He demurred with lighthearted intention.
Jaida smiled softly, joy in her eyes that Rex only caught glimpses of, but she caught his lips in feeble ecstasy.
She broke away with a dainty smile, and Rex laughed.
âIâm in.â The jedi whispered.
He grinned again, wider now as a perfect laugh fell from Jaidaâs perfect lips.
His fingers dropped from her cheek and found hers without question, taking her hand in his as he refused to break away from her hopeful eyes.
Rex squeezed her hand, then jolted, taking her with him as he ran out of the hall and back to where the music still rumbled.

Itâs a dramatised reality if you think about it. The idea of a gathering with the only intention being to appease the aching sore that is political pillow talk, is one that is so pompous it seems that those who benefit from the scheme are the ones who design it. Itâs a drawn out, legislative, painfully particular game of charades disguised in lavish clothes and large hats. In almost every way, those garments are often large enough and sparkly enough to hide the deceit they cover, and persuade each mindless baboon that is gormless to fall victim to it to enter into the game themselves. Itâs a repetitive cycle, and stupid though it may be; it does work.
Though there was beauty in it that you just couldnât deny. The decorations were enough to mesmerise you entirely; lavishly hung around each bannister and archway of the senate hall. Bright colours of orange and pink were scattered across the flower arrangements that littered the walls and their accents. Whatever had been done to spritz life into the chandeliers and lighting had worked its magic, for the perfectly lit definitions gave luminosity and warmth all in one squeezing breath. It was inviting and spectacular; a collaboration of everything the senate appeared to be. Even as the floor beneath your heeled feet glistened with rich delight, the pit in your stomach still swallowed your joy.
Your hatred for all things political had always been your strength and your weakness, especially as a senator. You represented your home planet well enough to protect itâs people, but you would not stand for the same deceitful bulldozing that reduced planets and people to nothing more than pawns or money makers. It meant that you stood for nothing you disbelieved in, including ridiculously regimented senate balls.
Nevertheless, you needed a way in. Your planet had been overlooked for far too long; the cries of your people ignored. You needed a trade deal and you needed one that wouldnât result in republic outposts and war dependancy littering your already fighting home world. A ball was a good opportunity for political match making, and it was one you couldnât give up.
It was that reasoning that had led you as far as a blue, bejewelled dress that suffocated what waist you apparently had, and hugged each curve with malice. Even with the anger dripping from your rouged lips, you couldnât deny it. You did look rather pretty. It was a small triumph, but one that gave you confidence enough to manage the heels thatâd been handed to you. As you caught a reflection of yourself leaning heavily against the arm of a guard in a particularly shiny section of the wall, you realised just how pretty you did look. Perhaps there was something addicting in the madness of it all: perhaps there was something powerful about a low cut dress and tousled hair.
Your entrance was timely, a rushed manner donned after slightly too much time taken trying to find the dammed place. Typical of Coruscant, you muttered. Two guards in white and red nodded at your arrival, both seemingly emotionless under their plastoid helmets. It was something thatâd always confused you about the clone army; all painfully identical, yet lightyears apart from each other. A brotherhood was one thing, yet could you even call it that?
The thought itself was fleeting, though one you were sure to ponder later. You passed those statues of guards within seconds and continued on your warpath to the âreceptionâ. It didnât take much for you to be recognised; the perks of being one of the only senators with detailed and beautiful facial markings. It was something you prided most. The rest was a blur, but you made it into the hall and straight into a chair thatâd apparently been pulled out for you. The man to your left was a kindly looking togruta, the woman to your right your stern faced guard, who looked murderous in comparison.
âMy dear, arenât you cold?â The togruta asked with a genuine smile. The question made a small laugh sprout up your throat.
âPerhaps, though my heart is beating far too fast for it to be uncomfortable.â You replied with that charming tone in your voice youâd perfected.
Everything was an act; your shoulders perked up and back to lift your chin in power and confidence, the planned placement of your hands across the table, your silken voice as it left your silken mouth. Even the unplanned conversation would seem regimented, though the Togrutaâs nature settled your mind with authentic care.
âAh, now that I can understand.â He shuffled, uncomfortable or unsure you couldnât tell. âI do apologise, but I cant seem to place you.â
You paused again with an unfaltering expression of tenderness.
âOh well I know you, Governor Roshti. But I donât blame you, I took over from Madame Liobrev shortly after she resigned from senatorial status. This is my first ball to say the least.â There was a hint of an exhale by the end of your scentence, it felt good to admit even subtly that you were out of your depth.
âWell it doesnât show, I only hope my name hasnât ingrained in your mind the way it has in so manyâs.â The sadness that fell across his face was just as genuine as the smile that it had replaced. It made the compassionate side of you ache.
âYou did what this god forsaken war made you do, I see no reason for shame to fall upon you or your people. Battle leaves us all defenceless.â The spite of your tongue was heavy; anger for the war too many fell victim to.
âThank you, my dear.â
You smiled once again, before turning back to your guard. She was perched haughtily on her seat, weapon securely hidden but itâs presence obvious. Her attire was in contrast to yours; armour and garments all of dark colours and metal accents. She looked like a warrior, and you were momentarily envious.
âTaurin you really ought to relax. Senators arenât that vicious. Or at least not when theyâre sedated with flattery and shiny things.â You joked, desperate to take the edge of both her and yourself.
Taurin, the guard, bowed her head in humor, a distant smile forming over her pursed lips. It was one you were incredibly fond of, and one you had grown to recognise as endearment.
âMâlady, itâs not the senators Iâm worried about.â
You laughed; a breathy laugh that corrupted your lungs and throat.
âWhat more could you possibly find challenging about a ball this compensated for. Perhaps itâs that my shoes will grow painful on my feet? Enjoy yourself!â You pressured with sweet intentions.
She turned to face you with a vindictive smile laced with sour belief. Her eyes trailed over your reeling eyes in silent conversation, seconds before they jolted off their steady trajectory just past your head. What had been childish remark soon freezed over to slight panic and question. You noticed the change almost instantly and frowned with creased eyebrows. As your head began to swivel to turn to her opponent, she screeched and forced you down.
The fall from your chair wasnât high, but the adrenaline and shock of the direct hit made it seem endless. You hit the hard floor with a mind numbing crack, one that caused your eyes to widen before you realised it was only one of the many jewels that laced your back splintering; rather than something a critical. Nonetheless, the shot that flew past certainly was real.
The bullet soared over your head, frowning that it had missed itâs target. You couldnât even process what had happened before Taurin fell to your level, teeth clenched in agony. You reacted as best you could with hands fumbling around her leaking wound; but she swatted you away and thrusted your head down once more. That one bullet, the one that had cursed your luck and gone for your guard in spite of it, had previously had a purpose. Your mind lingered on that fact for a second before you pushed past it. Searching eyes found Governor Roshtiâs, who had copied your move and positioned himself just under the table.
You couldnât hear much over your panting breath; nothing except the shouts and screams of senators whose useless lives felt threatened, so naturally, just like their entire lifeâs work, they do nothing except complain and wail. It was dark under the thick tablecloth, too dark for anything to be made clear to you. Taurin had wriggled further away and was holding her position behind your table, a gun most definitely in her hand.
Three shots. Four shots. Two. One. Silence.
Now really all you could hear was your panting breath. The blood rushing through your ears made a ringing sound, and the tingling in your veins made the fastness of your heart seem ordinary. Governor Roshti made no adjustments to his stance at the silence, but you were itching to unfold your coiled legs and poke you head up and out of the cover. Like most things you did, you did it without asking. The carnage wasnât as bad as the screams foretold it to be, but as soon as your vision shifted you saw the agony splayed over Taurinâs face.
âHelp! Medic!â Was the instantaneous shout from your lips.
One of the clone guards from earlier shot up. He wore a kama around his waist and his armour was weathered; something that told you he was rough without him having to speak a word.
âMaâam sit back down, we donât know where the attackers went.â He commanded.
âI can manage.â
His helmet tilted slightly in what you assumed to be annoyance. With two fingers pointing he signalled for a medic to step forward. The new clone looked significantly younger through the way he held himself and the shining of his uniform. With Taurin being led away, you finally let go of the breath youâd been holding.
âMaâam-â
âIâd like to know who just tried to kill me.â The clone looked slightly surprised at the deadpan tone of your voice. âAnd who shot my closest guard.â
He grimaced from under his helmet and lifted his hand up to his visor to tap into his comm channel.
âThis is Commander Fox, whatâs our status?â He spoke; a velvety tone lacing the authority in his voice.
Fox. It wasnât bad. Your mind shifted once again as his comm crackled back at him.
âSuspect... run... in pursuit... ty hunter.â Was all you could make out, but it didnât take a genius to fill in the gaps.
âThey wonât find the assailant while pampering senators.â You spoke, cringing slightly at the privilege you held yourself; here you were demanding Commander of his time, all because you have some morsel of perhaps undeserved power.
âIâm sorryâ Perhaps an attempt to reconcile your blundering thoughtlessness would change the trooperâs aggravated stance. âI only meant that it would help if the senators uninvolved were to be sent home and out of your hair, it canât be fun listening to them whine.â
His head tilted slightly in what you hoped to be a grin. âYouâre not wrong, but Iâm afraid I canât keep you alone in protection. Not when we donât actually know who was the intended target.â
âCommander, let me help. Before I was a senator I was a member of the guard. Iâm afraid I can just about handle myself.â There was more than a hint of pride in your voice as you spoke.
Fox shook his head and lifted off his helmet. It would be far to say you lost your breath at the sight of his actual face. In the few seconds you spent mentally sketching his face into your brain, your mind fastened at his slightly too-long-to-be-neat mop of curly hair, and how it fell playfully over his deeply tanned forehead. His cheekbones were sharp enough to shut you up (which was, as heâd come to discover, wasnât actually that easy) let alone the bite of his jaw.
But it was his eyes that made you most intriguing; deep and wise auburn eyes set perfectly amongst weathered skin. They watched you for a moment before the eyebrows above them lifted slightly in confusion.
You hadnât meant to stare. Or maybe you had, it was unimportant.
âFine, Iâll take you back to the office while the boys take the others to a safe space.â He wasnât smiling, but he didnât seem as begrudging anymore; a small victory.
âThank you, although I may need a change in shoes.â
