Palestine vs Japan - Asia World Cup 12th January 2014

For the first time in its history the Palestinian football team took part in a top level tournament despite the restrictions of the occupation.

For Palestinians, It didnt matter if they lost the game, they had already won by just being there as Palestine.

"We gathered in our thousands And for the first time We weren’t mourning 

We danced. 

Celebrated. Ululated.  Dabke between tight spaces, of folded chairs and awkwardly up small stadium stairs

We danced.

We danced like We just won The World Cup finals.

We sang soccer chants  and liberation songs  these songs of freedom.

Found myself dancing  surrounded by beaming brothers and sisters and thought, “if this is what losing looks like…”

Only to remember that  we won  With flying colours

Sillustani -  a pre-Incan  burial site on the shores of Lake Titicaca with the remains of several burial towers, some still intact. The Aymara people mummified their honored dead much like the Ancient Egyptians did and the towers were built to emphasize the connection between life and death. The insides of the tombs were shaped like a woman’s uterus, and corpses were mummified in a fetal position to recreate their birth. 

The only openings to the towers face east, where it was believed the Sun was reborn by Mother Earth each day.
