rambling about manga & age
//something i see frequently is "nobody cared about this when it first came out" and it's almost always from someone who is 20 or younger. we cared. we cared about the age gap. we cared about the incest. we cared about the sexual violence against women. we cared about the female characters being used only to push the male characters.
i feel like a lot of younger people truly cannot comprehend that these conversations happened offline and were still meaningful. that they happened in person, at fan meets or panels. that they happened through magazines and zines or in private chat groups. when they did happen online they happened on now-defunct forums and boards that were nuked after several rounds of fanfic lawsuits and copyright strikes.
it feels a little insane to talk to people and tell them that these things happened, that they're wrong, and have them not beleive it because they cannot find through google these items. the entire world for so long was made up of not-internet communication that i find it so startling when i'm confronted with the fact that internet communication seems to be the only thing that is real or accepted anymore.
