Thoughts on Altra Escalante 1
Great shoe. Only downside is laces (slipoy) and they may become top warm in summer (tbc). Also my toes get wet quickly. Aside from that, great distance shoe with lots of personality and feel. Happy!

This is a mediocre watch. For beginners it might suffice. For everyone else it’s bad.

Subscription pricing - how to get it right
Just was asked to pay NOK 199 (USD 24) for monthly subscription to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten (owned by media conglomerate Schibsted). This seems fair - a decent price for high quality.
The problem is that I, and I suspect I’m not alone, is a consumer of news content in a variety of languages, focus areas and other variables. Just adding Dagens Industri (USD 45) adds up to nearly USD 70 each month and I haven’t even started to pay for those sources I disagree with but therefore need to pay attention to.
Maybe I’m cheap, but online subscriptions add up and I’m quite sure lowering the price would lead to many more subscribers in an extremely scalable business model. Please consider.
Short review of Altra One 2.5
Excellent feel. After first run (8k commuting, 1 day after hard 10k race), feet felt astonishingly fresh. They are smooth and light and the zero drop is also not impacting my calves as other shoes do. I buy into the concept at once.
Possible problem: These are not fit for gravel tracks. Small stones get stuck in sole like if they were magnets to a fridge.
Not made for top speed: When pushing hard they do not have the sufficient punch. Might be due to the toe box concept and maybe I’ll use them for hard intervals after I’m more used to them and my feet have grown stronger. But until then, I’ll avoid them for my priority workouts and races.
For future: Not sure about track/terrain, we’ll see after some weeks. Also as mentioned, they need to prove their race worthiness.
Wrap up for now: I like them a lot and they’ll be my first choice for distance running until they prove me otherwise. I believe they will support me in building distance without injury risk, even building technique and foot strength.

This is a very fine example of an infograph that adds, well, nothing, to healthy data. The eye and mind like continuation, and continuation is therefore useful when comparing a series such as distribution through time. An onion chart does not offer this and should therefore be avoided. In this example, it is difficult to trace the change in the mid blue category ("vill bli dårligere" in my native Norwegian). Also, it's not easy to compare the years as the area is different from year to year, which it really shouldn't - a year is a year is a year. I think they might be after some emphasis on the year 2015 as it's the latest we've experienced and also scores high on some category (I'm really struggling to follow the data here which is symptomatic). But really, to assign to it the inner sanctuary of the onion core (which actually is nonexisting but that's another story - this might not even be an onion but could be the planet Saturn for all I know, however I know nothing about Saturn's core..) is slightly absurd, not visually friendly and analytically disturbing. Aftenposten, why couldn't you have used a simple compund-to-100% stacked column and saved me the trouble of writing this post?

Dangers of socialism and emotive justification
According to di.se (July 4th), quote by Johan Sjöstedt (Swedish socialist party leader): "Man kan säga att Sveriges allra rikaste får glädjen att ge Sveriges allra fattigaste barn en bra sommar" (simplified; The rich will get the pleasure to give the poorest children a fine summer). This quote is a very clear example of the use of 1984-esque ideology from a politician. The Government can - in a democracy - force it's inhabitants to do certain things, like paying tax, whilst allowing for other things, like freedom of speech. But when you bring in emotions in this way you're walking down a dangerous lane. No politician can tell you how you should feel about something. I feel sick to my stomach.

Were not allowed..." (or something similar) Never never never again. Afterwards friends confirmed that this is the most overhyped burger joint in Stockholm, with notoriously dry buns. Ah.
