勝山市にある大矢谷白山神社（Oyadani Hakusan Shrine）に行ってまいりました。以前から一度は訪ねてみたい場所の一つだったんです。

車から降りて神社まで田んぼの横の道を少し歩くのですが、アマガエルさんがたくさんいてちょっと驚きました。

神社の説明書きによると巨大な岩塊は「数万年前、不安定になった経ヶ岳山頂部が崩壊し、「なだれ」のように高速で流れ下った（岩屑なだれ）際に運ばれてきた」岩屑なだれ岩塊と考えられているとのこと。ちなみにこの岩の岩窟に泰澄大師が泊まったという伝説があるそうです。

それにしてもこんな岩が高速で落ちてくるって怖すぎる。勝山や大野って結構岩が多い感じがしたのも、火山の影響が大きいんでしょうね。白山も地震が増加しているていうニュースもあるので、ちょっと心配です。

            What is today’s dollar-yen exchange rate?

今日（きょう）＝　Today ドル＝ Dollar 円 ＝ Yen 換金（かんきん）＝ Conversion (into money) 率（りつ）＝ Rate いくら＝ How much; how many    

4)      毎日曜日に教会に行きます。

           I go to church every Sunday

毎（まい）＝ every (usu. with events, e.g. every weekend); each 日曜日（にちようび）＝ Sunday 教会（きょうかい）＝ Church 行（い）く ＝ to go;

  5)      太陽が輝いて暖かかったので、その日は休みにした。

          The sun was shining and it was warm, so I took the day off.

太陽（たいよう）＝ The sun 輝（かがや）く　＝ to shine; to glitter; to sparkle 暖（あたた）かい　＝ warm; mild その日（ひ）＝ that day; the very same day 休（やす）み　＝ Rest; vacation; holiday;    

6)      生徒たちはみんな休日が好きだ。

            All the students like holidays.

生徒（せいと）＝ Student; pupil 生徒たち（せいとたち）＝ Students みんな　＝ all; everyone; everybody 休日（きゅうじつ）＝ holiday; day off 好（す）き　＝liking; fondness; love;  

7)      日本人はご飯を食べる前に「いただきます。」と言う。

The Japanese say “Itadakimasu”  before eating their meals.

日本人（にほんじん）＝ Japanese people; Japanese person

ご飯（はん）＝ meal; cooked rice

前（まえ）に　＝ before; ahead

いただきます　＝ expression of gratitude before meals;  (lit. I humbly receive this food);

言（い）う　＝ to say;

8)      今日は祝日です。

           Today is National holiday/We have a holiday today.

今日（きょう）＝　Today 祝日（しゅくじつ）＝National holiday

  9)      赤ちゃんを強い日差しにさらすのは危険です。

          It’s dangerous to expose babies to strong sunlight.

赤（あか）ちゃん　＝ baby; infant 強（つよ）い　＝ strong; powerful 日差（ひざ）し　＝ sunlight; ray of the sun さらす＝To expose (to the air, to the public, to danger, etc.) 危険（きけん）＝ danger; dangerous  

10)   昨日は私は日記にたくさん書きました。

          I wrote a lot in my diary yesterday.

昨日（きのう）＝ Yesterday 私（わたし）＝ I; me 日記（にっき）＝ diary; journal たくさん　＝many; a lot; much 書（か）く　＝to write; to compose

顰める, 蹙める [しかめる (shikameru)]　to pull a wry face, to screw one’s face up, to pucker one’s face, to scowl, to grimace, to frown (Nezuko did this.)

捥げる [もげる (mogeru)]　to be torn off, to come off

気配 [けはい (kehai), きはい (kihai)]　indication, sign, hint, presence, trend (I put this word on the list because I specifically remember learning it from Bleach, so it was interesting to see it show up in another Shonen Jump series!)

連む [つるむ (tsurumu)]　to go with (a companion), to hang out with (Tanjiro is hanging out with Nezuko)

とどめを刺す, 止めを刺す [とどめをさす (todomewosasu)]　to finish off, to ensure (something) is dead, to deliver the coup de grace (This is a fun phrase that shows up a lot in various media)

打ち付ける, 打ちつける, 打付ける [うちつける (uchitsukeru)]　to knock, to bang (e.g. one’s head), to strike (hard)

食い尽くす [くいつくす (kuitsukusu)]　to consume (I’m 90% sure this a catchphrase in Attack on Titan. Despite it literally meaning ‘eat’, I don’t think it’s used that literally- more like ‘entirely destroy’)

埋葬 [まいそう (maisou)]　burial (Sakonji Urokodaki, whose name was one of the hardest words to catch while listening to the episode, does this.)

辛抱, 辛棒 [しんぼう (shinbou)　patience, endurance (Nezuko does this.)

クラクラ (kurakura)　dizzy, giddy (Tanjiro does this or is afraid he will do this.)

落とし穴, 落し穴 [おとしあな (otoshiana)]　pitfall, trap, pit

失神, 失心 [しっしん (shisshin)]　faint, trance, swoon, stupefaction (Tanjiro is afraid he will do this.)

嗅ぎ分ける [かぎわける (kagiwakeru)]　to scent out, to discern (Tanjiro does this.)

竃, 竈 [かまど (kamado), へっつい (hettsui), カマド (kamado)]　kitchen range, cooking stove, hearth, (kitchen) furnace So this word I knew- the central cooking hearth in old-style Japanese homes. It got me because it’s Tanjiro’s last name, and we see him here, returning to the cabin, to the kamado. That’s some nice symbolic naming ^^

変貌, 変ぼう [へんぼう (henbou)]　transfiguration, transformation, change of appearance (Nezuko did this when she becomes a… [spoiler])

受け継ぐ [うけつぐ (uketsugu)]　to inherit, to succeed, to take over (Giyuu Tomioka thinks that Tanjiro might be able to do this.)

何卒, 何とぞ [なにとぞ (nanitozo), なにそつ (nanisotsu)]　please, kindly, I beg of you, if it pleases you (Seems equivalent in usage to ‘douzo’)

草々, 草草 [そうそう (sousou)]　brevity, rudeness, hurry / Yours Sincerely (My dictionary notes that “[written] letters that end with this start with 前略 [senryaku], 冠省 [kanshou], etc.)

The episode started with really easy Shonen-esque Japanese, but it really started to level up in the second half, especially with Giyuu’s letter right at the end that used very formal Japanese. Here are a few other phrases I noticed.
