Death Stranding over. I've never cried so much in front of a video game for a long time. The link between Sam and BB (Lou) is so strong. The end was so devastating and so touching.
Ps: when BB wanted to fight it was so cute.
āwouldnāt you rather earn something than have it just handed to you?ā
Yeah when it comes to actual awards and fancy goods, but when it comes to basic needs, basic human decency, and accomodations, those things should always be handed to people. No one should have to āearnā those things.Value people as people, not base it on how much they produce.Ā
yeah but that creates a severe dependency that could be exploited easily, and creates a slippery slope @musical-clarity
Actually studies show that people who live in places with universal income (who are given money with no strings attached just for being citizens) do far better work than those who donāt and are more enthusiastic to do work.
This is because they still want nice things and will work for those but the part of their energy that was devoted to worrying about if they have enough money to pay the rent and bills this month is now freed up to do other things.
Some people will always be lazy and take advantage of the system, but they are always a tiny percentage and it seems ridiculous to me to punish the majority and severly hamstring their abilities just because a handful of people will simply live of basic income rather than work.
Itās been tested a couple times. In Canada, in some European countries, and the results are always the same. There are two groups of people who show a statistically significant (Greater than one half of one percent, or 1 in 200) increase in Not Working and living off the guaranteed income. Parents of Children under school age, and full time students. Among ALL other groups, employment actually INCREASED. Why? Because guaranteed minimum income means that homeless people can get at least a basic low end apartment. Itās hard if not impossible to get an above board job without a permanent fixed address. Also more people were able to have and maintain a BANK ACCOUNT. It is often hard to get a decent job without an account that can accept Direct Deposit for paychecks. Also, lost work time due to illness and injury decreased across the board. It turns out if people are getting a decent amount of money each month they can A> afford to eat better, and B> obtain decent medical attention both preventative and emergency. Crazy right? So why hasnāt it caught on? Because it doesnāt directly benefit the people in power, and it increases THEIR PERSONAL taxes, their CORPORATE TAXES, and thus decreases their PERSONAL INCOME. So, because Jeff Bezos and Alan Greenspan might fall from making 100 billion dollars a year to making 99.8 billion dollars a year, itās a hard NO and we can all fucking die.. The End.
The other reason the people in power hate it is because it fundamentally changes the relationship between employer and employee. In regular capitalism, the employer has all the power because if you quit you starve and if you get another job itāll be equally shitty because all the bosses know that they have you by the gonads.
But with universal income, power is given to the workers. If your boss is an asshole, you can just quit without worrying about starving. So the employers are the ones that have to sell themselves and offer value for your time in order to keep enough staff to survive. And they HATE that.
I just have to add that this is my favorite one Iāve ever made, you guys. Iāve waited like 3 years to do this one

star trek au where picard looks at the camera like they do in the office every time someone says or does something dumb
Ā Ā Ā Itās safe to say there would be no Portraits of America without McDonaldās. Ā Ā Ā Thatās where Iāve written most stories and worked on most photos. Iāve used its Wi-Fi and power outlets a thousand times, Iāve stayed awake and driven across the country on its cheap coffee. Iāve spent entire rainy days inside ā and many nights. Iāve secretly eaten my own sandwiches, had free refills, and even showered there. Ā Ā Ā Is it ideal? No. It sucks. But Iām grateful. It allowed me to meet thousands of people across the country, share their stories with thousands more, and continue to dream. I canāt tell you how many people Iāve talked to, who relied on McDonalds to get by at some point in their lives. When they struggled and had to live out of a car, they would get up, go to McDonaldās, use the bathroom to freshen up, and then go to work. No one, not even their friends, knew about their predicament. Ā Ā Ā And every time I hear someone say, āOh, I hate McDonaldās. Iāll never go there,ā I think āGood for you. But many people need it ā to survive.ā However you feel about its food, wages, impact on the environment, role in the disappearance of local diners and cafes, or anything else, the fact is that, for millions of people, McDonaldās has become a a sort of shelter ā safe and unassuming ā on a par with public libraries, except with more locations, longer hours, cheap drinks, and TV. It allows people to remain inconspicuous and preserve their dignity. Iām not sure what this says about our society, but it puts things into perspective. The poor, the elderly, the loners, those between jobs or residentially challenged, they donāt go to organic eateries and fancy-ass coffee shops. Ā Ā Ā I donāt know if itās because of corporate responsibility or human decency, or whatever, but I have been asked to leave only once, in three years, right here in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Oddly enough, I had spent only 20 minutes inside. The security guard dozed off, woke up, looked around and thought, āAaah, that dude with the laptop. He mustāve been here for hours.ā In small-town America, there are no security guards, just elderly women who walk around with coffee pots to check on you and fill your cup, diner style. Once, after four hours and five refills, I told one particularly nice lady that I felt bad. āOh, weāre happy to have you here,ā she said. Ā Ā Ā Even in those 24-hour locations along the major highways, where no one comes to you with a coffee-pot in the middle of the night, the staff looks the other way and never says anything about time limits and loitering. On many nights, Iām not alone. Itās 3am and the guy across from me has been there for hours. Heās left several luggage bags outside, but itās clear heās not catching a plane. He takes a nap, then looks at his laptop. My instinct is to talk to him and find out what his story is. But I stop myself, because, sometimes, I like to imagine. I want to believe that he hasnāt been homeless for long, that this is only a temporary setback, that heās pursuing a dream, working on a big project, maybe even sharing stories with the world. And just like me, he wouldnāt be able to do that without McDonaldās.

How Raleigh Becket Changed His Tune Once He Met Miss Mako Mori: A Short Story
āYou donāt understand, Iām a complicated hero with angst and man pai- OMG SHEāS PERFECT EVERYONE GET IN THE JAEGER WEāRE GOING MONSTER HUNTINGā
Oh god I never noticed how his shoulders drop in that last gif. It looks like he is literally sighing over how perfect she is.
He LITERALLY sighs at her when she walks by. NEVER have I seen a main character hero who is an extremely masculine male be SO ADORING of a woman. He has literal stars in his eyes. Heās tipsy on admiration. He looks at her like she brought Christmas and puppies and chocolate cake.
I STAN MANLY MEN WHO ARE RESPECTFUL AND EMOTIONALLY AVAILABLE AND TOTAL EQUALS WITH THEIR LADY FRIENDS
Raleigh treats Mako like the capable adult that she is but he just worships her. He treats her correctly but he walks on air behind her with hearts in his eyes. Dude is crushing hard and still gets what needs to be done done.
You must think Iām so stupid. Stupid, suburban Alison.
