Little #makeup haul! The free birthday gift from Sephora, plus two BellaPierre kits from Winners (for $15 and $8 respectively). I am a mix of pleased, and guilty for spending money I really shouldn’t be spending…
This was earlier today, and having now tried everything, my first impressions are REALLY good! The Bellapierre Cosmetics Official concealer/base and mineral powder foundation looks SO GOOD and natural and luminous and lovely. About a million times better than the liquid Almay foundation set with Marcelle powder that I have been using. Plus the powder blush that came in the kit is beautiful. And the Bellapierre lipsticks are perfect shades for me, seem pretty moisturizing so far, and are surprisingly good in terms of lasting and not transferring. A+ purchases!
Using the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher palette and Julep Go Big mascara on the eyes; Annabelle matte Biggy Bronzer, bareMinerals Ready blush in The Secret’s Out, and Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Nude Palette for Face and Eyes in warm nude on the face; and Beauty for Real lip gloss in Kiss Me on the lips.
From last night. It’s really great to realize I don’t have to do a full face of makeup to be happy with my look. I can skip the tedious parts of foundation and even concealer, and just put on the products I really enjoy: eyeshadow and mascara; blush, bronzer, and highlighter; lipstick or gloss.
As much as I might want to cover up redness, dark circles, and zits sometimes, the reason I wear makeup is not to “correct” my face or fix anything: it’s about expressing myself in different ways, making myself feel the way I want to feel, be that glamorous or fierce or glowy or pretty. It’s about feeling that I have control over how I present myself to the world, which is really important to me.
So sometimes, I leave the dark circles and red spots alone, and just delight in an earthy neutral eye look, and some soft glow on my cheeks.
Yesterday’s glowy, flowery look. :)
Using the bareMinerals The Magic Act palette, bareMinerals First Crush lip palette, Tarte Lights Camera Lashes mascara on top lashes, and Julep Go Big mascara on bottom lashes.
More makeup things I am discovering
I don't actually dislike cooler eyeshadow colours, I'm just not a big blue eyeshadow fan (except for turquoise!). I LOVE cool purples and greens though!
I always avoided foundation because I thought it was kind of an all or nothing thing and I HATE having cream substances all over my face that don't absorb (like sunscreen... YUCK). But since realizing, as long as it's a good shade match, that I can apply just a bit of foundation on the redder/splotchier areas of my face and blend it out, it's become a regular part of my makeup routine! I'm not finding the foundation I'm using right now the best match though for this time of year when I'm at my palest, so I need to find a good new drugstore foundation to try...
Wet n Wild eight pan palettes are just shockingly good quality! I'm regularly using my palettes (I have Comfort Zone and Petal Pusher) mixed in my higher end shadows like Tarte and Cargo, and my fancier indie ones like Luxie. They don't *feel* as nice and buttery as higher end shadows often do, and there's some variation within the palettes in terms of pigmentation, but for the most part they are just SO pigmented and blend SO well. Thank you YouTube for putting me on to a good thing.
Lip liners are quite helpful, and I really like the Essence ones (which sell for $1.99 each) better than a couple of much higher priced liners I have.
A good buffing/blending brush for foundation from the drugstore is ridiculously hard to find. I've been looking for one from either Ecotools or Real Techniques, which both get very good reviews, but none of the local stores that carry those brands have the specific brushes I want. I might end up having to order them online, which I really don't want to do (I hate paying for shipping).
I don't really get the matte makeup trend. My lips are very dry, so I tend to stay away from matte lipsticks and liquid lipsticks, and this time of year my combo to slightly oily skin is more on the dry side, so matte foundation makes me a little nervous too. Plus I just really like glitter, glow, and shine!

The prize I won from Glossybox arrived!! Two identical trios from Beauty For Real including a lip scrub, lip liner, and lip gloss. Review of all to come soon!
I enter giveaways all the time, and I won something!! From a Glossybox giveaway on Facebook. This is the description: “This week we teamed up with Beauty For Realcosmetics to give ten people a double set of their award winning, lipgloss, lip liner and exfoliant so you can leave that perfect Valentine's Day kiss.” a $92 value. I am SO EXITED for this to arrive in the mail...
I got the Julep trio I talked about ordering! This is a pic, again from last week (or the week before??) where I’m wearing the Light on Your Lips lipstick in Lady in Red (LOVE IT) and the Go Big mascara (which I have more mixed feelings on: applies well, love the wand, but needs lots of building and lasts horribly/smudges and flakes a lot).
Photos from last week using my new (found on clearance) L’Oreal La Couleur Infallible eyeshadow in Permanent Khaki (#009). Love it!
