The Elamite Ziggurat of Inshushinak (Chogha Zanbil) in Khuzestan, Iran
The ziggurat was built around 1250 BC by the Elamites, a pre-Iranian indigenous ethnic group whose homeland lay in what is now southwest Iran. It served as a place to honour and worship the god Inshushinak, the protector of the Elamite capital city of Susa and a god of oaths and judge of the dead.
