I got my wish

“I know it’s been a while since I’ve been in the US during October and Halloween but I’m almost certain killer clowns wasn’t a part of it back then.”

“How long is a while ago? Because it seems to be an occurring trend, although sometimes they pop up in the middle of May which is even more confusing.”

“A bit of both, I guess. What? Aren’t I the best kinda sunshine to wake up with?” Brock let out a snort. “Ninja style… if only subtlety was in my nature.”

“Like the one from the Telletubbies, with an annoying laugh,” she told him as she leaned against the doorpost. “I’m not going to have to tell you to leave, am I?”

That earned a grin from the outlaw who looked right over at Kitty, “Oh yeah? How so?” He was eager to know how the mutant felt about this city. She’d been on Earth most of her life after all. Kitty’s opinion would differ from his own or his colorful group of teammates who had no immediate connection to this place outside of Peter. “Well, we’ve got the Nova Corps–not that Nova Prime’s much for having debates and discussion, but the main concern is defending life, keeping the peace.” He turned his gaze back on Pryde again. Despite all he’d said, a relaxed smile remained on his lips that reached to his eyes. “Just say the word, Miss Pryde, and I’ll give you a lift.”

“Well, to start with the crime rate in this city alone and it’s always so gloomy. Kind of reminds me of Fallout 4. Pretty sure I saw a crocodile on the street the other night.” She was used to grass and trees surrounding the X-Mansion, whereas most of the things that should be green looked like it was dying out here. “The infamous Star-Lord is talking about keeping the peace, huh? I bet they’d love a tape of you saying those things just to blackmail you into always been good and such.” When Peter mentioned flying back out in space again, Kitty shuddered. “While it was a pretty sight to see, I’m not going back there willingly. Don’t you miss it, though? It’s so different out there..”

“Did I wake you? ‘had to take a call… might have helped myself to what’s in your fridge too.”

“Were you just ‘in the neighborhood’? Or did you pause the call until you could break into my fridge? Couldn’t you have done it.. I don’t know, ninja style?”

Peter ducked his head after a soft chuckle and slid away from the gates edge to stand up straight. The question was a loaded one. Blinking into the white distance, Quill struggled on where to start; with the good parts or the bad parts? Ever a fake, he decided to keep the topic positive, “A lot of things have changed–but I like it. ‘people are generally cool, some music’s awesome, and I didn’t stumble into a post-apocalyptic scenario. Gotham itself, however, would be another subject entirely.” Kitty’s mention of politics made for the perfect opening. “I did expect more on that end.” He began to walk down the bridge and sipped his own coffee between smiles. “Xandar has a much better grip on their own planet.”

  “I’m not too sure about the post-apocalyptic scenario,” she told him with a shrug. Although she did know that if the apocalypse ever happened, there was no way she’d stay in Gotham, the place was already bad enough as is. “Really? How’s that? I suppose people could just fly off and go to another planet if they don’t like the way things are. Kind wish it was like that here.”
