seeing straight men be disgusted by booktok smut recommenders has actually radicalized me to the side of booktok smut recommenders. girls your taste may be atrocious but i will never disparage you for exposing mainstream discourse to the concept of soaking through your underwear. spent my whole life listening to men talk about penises itās about time they get jumpscared by women talking about pussy in crude detail on social media. go forth and goon my warriors
I work at a bookstore and hearing one of my male coworkers call smutty romantasy "the downfall of society" because it's "literally just porn" radicalized me

Pinterest showing me the most wholesome and accurate representation of Aurora and Phillup.
In case you do not care to read this whole blog:
Too long not going to read: Sleeping Beauty is the standard both romantically and artistically.
I was totally about to say "they're so MamOuSa coded" but ya know what? I also just really freaking love these two so much.
Sleeping Beauty was the first Disney story I ever watched/was introduced to. My mom had a Disney classics collection story book and she also bought Sleeping Beauty Platinum edition for me and my sister. Ever since I was little it's been my favorite. Phillip is 100% the best prince there ever was. Aurora is so pretty and sweet and honestly relatable. The three good fairies are actually quite entertaining and I think they have a lot to like about them. Maleficent is the most iconic Disney villainess there ever was.
AND THE ART?!?! This movie has got to be the most esthetically and artistically pleasing animated film in history. The character designs fit the background to a tee. The first thing I ever noticed about the art as a child was the use of geometric shapes (square trees) and bright, saturated colors for the props and characters. It's just a freaking masterpiece.
The story makes me swoon in a very similar way that the first arc of Sailor Moon does (I mean duh I've said this a million times)
Prince and Princess betrothed from birth but separated before ever meeting and the first time they do meet is 16 years later as perfect strangers and fall in love as ordinary people, a boy she met in the woods as she was leaving her cottage and the first thing he does upon seeing her is sweep her off her feet and pull her into a dance. Then they are told that they must marry their betrothed but Oh no! What about that wonderful stranger I met and can't stop thinking about? And then the curse that Phillup has to wake her from; and he does not hesitate whatsoever the minute he learns that his betrothed and the girl he's falling for are the same person (thanks to a top tier villainess taunt/speech from Maleficent btw) and be rushes to her and defeats the wicked villainess and awakens her and then THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTERRRR
Ahhh it's just- ack I'm in love with this storyyyy.
I do not however think I'd be as moved by it if I were to read the original fairy tale. Just a hunch-
#i know people have started criticizing the#āmen are afraid of getting laughed at women are afraid of getting killedā#but this is real?
Oh, yes.
A few years ago I went to pick up a woman I met on OKCupid for a date, and a friend of hers was there. They kind of over-explained āOh, she just showed up to say hiā and there was a vague nervousness in the air that even my autistic ass was picking up on. Her friend was playing conspicuously with her phone. I went āAh, the safety. Need to get a picture?ā
Dead silence for about a second and a half, then the friend took a picture, looked at my date, and said āHave funā and walked out the door.
(I would ordinarily have been clueless, but Iād just been asked to be the safety the previous night.)
My advice to male-presenting folks: recognize that this not your problem. By which I mean, this sort of security check isnāt a problem for you. It doesnāt hurt you. You arenāt being insulted or disrespected. And if you treat it like what it isā a reasonable adaptation to an unreasonable situationā and just roll with it, your dates will be more comfortable, and you will have a better time as a result.
The same applies to phone calls mid-date. Let them answer the damn phone without drama.
They arenāt accusing you of being a dangerous person. The very fact that they are willing to go on a goddamn date with you means that they have extended a certain level of trust. But the fact remains that there isnāt really a way to distinguish between āa man who isnāt dangerousā and āa man who knows how to behave like heās not dangerous.ā

Kanej Headcanons, Because They Invented the Power Couple
Tw mild mentions of violence, mild mentions of sex, nothing explicit
Kaz and Inej send letters back and forth while Inej is off at sea. Pim and Annika bring them to Kaz and theyāre always curious in regards to the contents but they never open them out of fear. Kaz keeps his letters safely locked away next to his desk and Inej spends hours tracing Kazās looping cursive in the privacy of her cabin
It takes them some time to get used to skin on skin contact, but in the meantime, they make a habit of holding hands through their shadows instead
Kaz learns the story of Inejās father giving her mother geraniums, and makes an effort to find out Inejās favourite flower and present them to her the next time she returns from sea. Inej is charmed but she teases Kaz, saying he could have just asked what her favourite flower was instead of recruiting his new spider to help figure it out. Kaz makes presenting her with flowers a recurring theme
Speaking of the new spider, Inej helps Kaz find her replacement. He wanted her to get final say
Kaz did a lot of rope work as a young farm boy, so he incidentally knows how to braid hair. Sometimes he braids Inejās when sheās unable to out of injury or exhaustion. Sometimes itās because itās a bright afternoon and work is slow and they have Kazās office all to themselves
Inej is the only one alive whoāll ever know Kazās full name. Kaz asks her not to use it though, as that name died alongside the young boy on the barge, and she obliges
Inej used to stay with Jesper and Wylan when she came back from sea, but quickly started staying with Kaz at the Slat as their relationship progressed. It took Jes and Wylan a little while to figure out where she was
Kaz learns Suli customs early on in their relationship after seeing how important they are to Inej, but only really reveals the extent of this knowledge after heās comfortable showing just how much Inej means to him
Inej is sometimes hit on by people, occasionally right in front of Kaz. She asks if this bothers him. He says no, because the crux of his love is that he wants her to be free to make her own decisions, without feeling owned again. This means more to her than words can describe
Inej also has a moment when a villain kidnaps Kaz because she made the mistake of looking at him. She piles bodies miles high until she gets him back. They are each otherās Achilles Heel
Inejās parents absolutely adore Kaz for reuniting them with their daughter. It takes him off-guard, this level of affection- parental affection, which he hadnāt received since he was eight. Inej thinks itās cute and a little bit funny how Kaz goes from Dirtyhands to an stuttering teenage boy under their gazes. Inejās father laughs goodnaturedly at the awkwardness with which Kaz receives compliments. Inejās mother tries to ruffle his hair at some point and he flinches. At some point, noting that their daughter has touch-related trauma from her ordeal, they ask if Kaz has something similar. Inej confirms but gives no specifics. Inejās parents are now a lot more careful with Kaz but no less affectionate. Kaz and Inej keep Kazās reputation and work under wraps for as long as possible
Kaz is sometimes jealous at how easy physical affection is to Jesper and Wylan because he wishes that could be Inej and him
Inej goes down in history as Sankta Inej of the Seas and Kaz as Dirtyhands, Bastard of the Barrel. Theyāre both known to have existed in the same timeframe, but itās thought that theyād certainly have abhorred one another. There are rumours that they might have known each other, whispers that they might have even been friends once upon a time, but those are easily dismissed on grounds of sacrilege
Kaz shows Inej card tricks when itās just the two of them and she oohs and ahs half the time and teases him about it the other half
The other Dregs think Kaz and Inej are hooking up every time they lock themselves in his office and there is a lot of gossip and speculation on the specifics. Kaz threatens to kill them when he picks up on the rumors
Inej calls Kaz ādarlingā and several Suli terms of endearment, which fluster him to no end. Kaz tends to go simply with āInejā and āWraithā
Kaz and Inej usually ask before purposefully initiating physical contact- not aloud but silently, giving the other an opportunity to decline or pull away if they want to
Kaz and Inej eventually reach the stage where they can hold hands and hug, but it takes them almost a decade to be able to have sex. Itās fine. Theyāre patient with each other and themselves
Even before they can share a bed together, they make a habit of sleeping in the same room because of the comfort each otherās presence brings them
Inej has used the tip of her dagger to tilt Kazās head up at least once. In whatever context, it just has to have happened at some point
Inejās parents eventually find out about Kazās reputation and are rightfully furious that the two of them hid it from them. They reach the conclusion that theyāre still mad but theyāve grown to genuinely love Kaz, and the boy who brought their daughter back has to have some good in him
Inej introduced Kaz to all of her cousins, who all practically rush him and bombard him with a million questions. Inej fends them off with a āOne at a time, please.ā They all generally think heās decent, if a bit aloof. None of them find out about Dirtyhands till long after he and Inej are married
Kaz proposes to Inej with a dagger engraved with Suli wedding vows. She says yes. The two elope. When they bring up being married to the other Crows, they force them to have an actual wedding this time- friends, family and all. Inejās parents tear up. Nikolai and Zoya show up, much to Kazās chagrin. Jesper is Kazās best man and Nina is Inejās maid of honor. The wedding follows Suli customs.
I love how in Kaz and Inejās relationship, itās the subtle things that shows how much they care. Like how Kaz finds the guy that stabbed Inej and tortures him for information before throwing him over the side of a boat.Ā
Kaz Brekkerās feelings for InejĀ Ghafa are so subtle! I wonder how anyone could even tell theyāre there. His actions and words are so casual:
> i would physically drag my body to yours so i could save you
>i used the 4 million kruge that iāve been saying is my sole motivation the last 1,000 pages to buy you a boat to kill slavers oh and also here is your long lost family so you donāt leave me to go to RavkaĀ
>i made sure the business that enslaved you was conveniently destroyed
>oh also i paid off the rest of your debt that binds you to the dregs, even though iām so full of self-loathing that i believe you wouldnāt stay with me for any other reasonĀ
>i will attempt to overcome my soul-crushing post-traumaticĀ stress to kind of nuzzle your neck in this bathroom

The most unrealistic thing about the Crows is that Jesper & the Crows don't make fun of Kaz more often. Like your friend's spitting lines rivalling Edgelord and pining for a girl he doesn't even have the wits to confess. I mean i imagine Nina & Jesper pressing their ear to the door whenever Kaz is alone with Inej like
Nina: OMG HIS HEARTBEAT IS PICKING UP
Jesper: OMG OMG *squeals in no.1 kanej shipper*
or Kaz just spitting out some edgy/iconic lines but at this point his friends are so done with him an-
Kaz: This city's price is bloo-
Nina: SHUT UPPPPPPP!!!
or everytime Helnik or Wesper's having a moment together and Kaz makes it all un-romantic/makes a face they're like
Wylan: You're just jealous you can't even talk to Inej without blubbering some nonsense. >:(
or Inej sitting on Kaz's office chair and mimmicking him everytime she gets mad at him bc he did sth shitty
