one week open + first site event
Can you believe it's been a week since Shattered Leylines opened? The entire staff team has been completely and utterly blown away by this little community we've built so quickly. For some back story: the idea of this site came up after a real life DND game between Trav and Grace literally over a year ago and with the help of Summer, it's been slowly worked on ever since. There were many times where we wondered if the day would come where we opened, but now that we're here, we're just so happy with this group of people who have found us and can't wait for more to join us in the coming weeks! In our first week alone we have:
Over 105 registered members
Over 550 total posts
Over 40 accepted original characters
Over 35 in character roleplay threads/posts
Truly - ya'll are making this such an amazing little RP home and we just adore ya'll. With that being said and without further ado, we'd love to introduce our first site event!
site event - the harmonic flare
It begins without warning and without spectacle. There is no explosion, no singular disaster to point to. Instead, the Sword Coast experiences something far more unsettling: a synchronized response. Across cities, roads, sanctuaries, and wild places, the Weave shudders in unison, vibrating with a low resonance that feels the same no matter where it is felt. This is not a rupture, and it is not a collapse. It is the first undeniable moment where fractured leylines answer one another. Wild surges of magic occur all across the Sword Coast simultaneously. Arcane practitioners describe it as interference. Priests feel divine channels crowd and echo. Travelers report the land itself shifting with intention. Records contradict themselves. Magic may behave correctly, but at the wrong time, in the wrong order, or through the wrong conduit. The fractures that once seemed isolated are no longer acting alone. This is the Harmonic Flare: the first sign that the leylines are no longer independent failures, but parts of a system beginning to synchronize. The staff has been hard at work planning this event all week behind the scenes, inspired by your characters and creativity. To read more about the event and the mechanics on how to participate within it, please head on over to our Site Event forum to read the overview and specific prompt threads. And with our new site event, we also have an update to our Player Handbook.
leveling up via site events
Now that our first site event is live, we have updated the Profile Guide in the Player Handbook to talk more about leveling up via site events. You can read all about it in the guidebook, but for your convenience, we will include it here as well. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to open a ticket on our discord!
Character progression on Shattered Leylines is driven by meaningful participation in site events, not automatic experience points like in traditional tabletop Dungeons and Dragons or exclusively through posting counts like most forum roleplays. This allows leveling to stay narrative, earned, and flexible.
When a character participates in a site event, their actions, decisions, and impact on the story are reviewed by staff at the conclusion of the event. This review focuses on meaningful contribution: engaging with the plot, interacting with other characters, making choices that move the story forward, and responding to consequences. Level ups are not guaranteed for every event. In most cases, characters will advance after participating in 2–3 site events, depending on the scope of the event and the character’s involvement. Smaller events may contribute toward growth, while larger or more demanding events may result in immediate advancement.
Level increases are awarded at the end of an event and will be posted by staff using a DM account directly in the event’s conclusion thread. This is intentional: characters will not always know a level up is coming, mirroring organic growth within the story itself. This system allows staff to account for differences in participation, pacing, and narrative weight while keeping progression fair across the site. It also prevents rushing, encourages collaborative storytelling, and ensures that levels reflect character development rather than raw activity.
In addition to site events, characters may still gain levels through Point Shop purchases, as outlined in the shop. These are intentionally more difficult to achieve and are expensively based on posting count, but are intended to be for players who may miss a site event or would like to try for a level up between new site events occurring.
in conclusion
Once again, thank you all for an incredible first week. We are so happy you're here, and can't wait to keep writing with you all!
