This week we learned about an artist named Jim Nutt. Nutt was born in Pittsfield, MA; but grew as an artist in Chicago, IL. Artists named Gladys Nilsson, Art Green, Suellen Rocca, and Jim Falconer all worked with Nutt in an art group named the Chicago Imagists. Nutt often times based his work on women, and surrealism. Today, Nutt is still primarily based in Chicago. Below I attached some of my favorite work from him.

This is my part one of my plexus glass painting done. It came out much better than I had originally expected!
This is Ernest Chang. He is a Chinese-American multidisciplinary artist with deuteranopia (red-green color blindness). He has his own studio in Hong Kong. When doing my research on him I found out some very interesting things about him. For instance, he was raised in a bi-cultural family. He was born in Tampa, Florida and moved to Hong Kong at a young age. He works in mixed media and tries to blend traditional Chinese art and history with contemporary culture in his artworks. Below is some more information on Ernest Chang. https://www.thestallery.com/about-ernestchang
He sounds like a very interesting artist! After reading your post, I do feel like doing my own personal research on him.
A few weeks ago, we learned a bit about an artist named Jean Arp. Arp was originally born Hans Peter Wilhelm Arp. Arp is a French sculptor, painter, and poet. He started training to become an artist in 1900, and continued to study until 1911. Arp took most of his inspiration through World War II. Jean Arp throughout his career has also won a few awards including the Grand Prize for Sculpture at the 1954 Venice Biennale. Below I attached some of my favorite work from him.

These are my color swatches for the shape collage, the highlighted colors in the grayscale photo are the colors that I used, as I previously mentioned I wish I had let the colors fully dry, rather than touch dry before completing the assignment. Though, making these colors was still fun!
Here is my shape collage; when beginning I placed the swatches of my colors close to each other, let them mostly dry and the colors were discord to one another; though, when fully dried most of my colors were discord to one another, and two other colors dried as a darker set of their own discord. Next time I try a painting like this I must try to make sure that the swatches are completely dry before I start painting on my canvas.
Above the discordant collage. showing the end result the yellow dried darker than expected.
Below the bags of paint with still wet paint inside of them- around the same tone.
This came out absolutely amazing. I appreciate how you used vibrant colors since they are harder to match. Your collage really did work!
This is my completed collage, I had to change some of the shapes slightly to make it feel just right.
These are my composition ideas before I physically completed the collage.

Below I attached my discordant colors (blue, and orange). Taking the photo was a bit complicated because I felt that my camera constantly made the blue deeper than it is, so it took a few tries to get the right photo, but other than that I didn’t really have a hard time with it.
Just a few ideas for a abstract painting in the future...
These look great! I can’t wait to see the final result!
This week while learning about warm and cool colors, Professor Kristensen mentioned an artist named Kerry James Marshall. Marshall was born in 1955 in Birmingham, AL and now lives/works in Chicago, IL. Marshall is best known for his portrait work. Marshall states in his biography that most of his work was inspired by the civil rights movement (due to his year and place of birth). His work also often times represents the daily lives of African Americans. Below I attached some of my favorite work from him!

This came out amazing! Great job 👏🏼
This is the process of my found image collage. Even though I had a general idea of the color pallete that I wanted, as I was painting I began to add more colors that I felt would work well, and it ended up coming out better than expected.
