Hi everyone!
If you want to keep seeing my collection of Pocky (87 flavors and counting) I've decided to try this again on Instagram. Come say hi!
https://www.instagram.com/p/B0UzVKcHfCB/?igshid=13328y5bvzd95
Feeling tropical this week with mango pineapple! I think the idea and packaging is great, and vaguely remember the fruit bits being a bit too chewy. Also, it had more of a generic tropical/mango-y flavor, and the pineapple was pretty much lost in the mix. I think this tends to happen a lot with the two-fruit flavors, it’s hard to let both shine instead of being part of a generic fruity taste. ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ( 3 / 5 )
It’s not blueberry- it’s grape! I have never liked grape candies or juice, so this was a very unpleasant surprise. That said, out of all the grape snacks I’ve tried, this grape pocky had a more natural and pleasant flavor. If I did like grape, this may have gotten five stars, but my personal preference is the only authority I have to write these reviews. The packaging is pretty but kind of misguiding for my simple mind (I suppose more blue-ish grapes are more common in Japan) and I’m not sure about the idea of trying to pack a ‘juicy’ flavor into a biscuit snack- or maybe the word choice just feels a little weird to me. Mango Mousse! Although I don’t know how the image of a mango in cream makes me feel, the graphic imagery is nice! Design wise, this box is probably one of my favorites. Now, the actual flavor was nice, but overall not too special. It had a light, artificial mango flavor that didn’t quite do the fruit justice- but a solid attempt! I’d love to see this flavor come out in some sort of new-and-improved way in the future. ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ( 3 / 5 )

Continuing the midi series, this time with lemon! Midi lemon was made in an adorable packaging collaboration with a drink that can be seen here ! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to try the drink, but this flavor was fantastic. I am a big fan of lemon desserts, and think the packaging idea was super cute and new for Glico. I’d love to see more creative packaging ideas like this in the future! If you come across these, just be careful- eating a ton may end up being a little too sweet for your stomach (hubris). ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ ( 4 / 5 )
I’m sorry for the delay! As of this week, we’re back on schedule- I’ll try to make up for it by reviewing three nearly identical flavors at once. Although The packaging suggests subtle differences between these three, I’d say they are virtually the same: a creamier, silkier milk chocolate coating a midi-sized biscuit. That said, these taste really good, especially if you wish normal pocky were a little sweeter. Maybe if I tried all three back to back, I’d be able to spot a difference. ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ ( 4 / 5 )
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll probably guess what I have to say about this flavor. A lot of more artificial flavors can be enhanced by adding a new element- and these fresh strawberry fruity bits are no exception. They make a common flavor (the standard pink strawberry) much more natural and interesting, to give me everything I wish the normal strawberry flavor is. Glico did us right with this upgrade ~

Banana sundae is making a comeback, this time with a chocolate biscuit stick. Both of the flavors are a little too faint/artificial to actually taste like a chocolate banana split, but the addition of the banana chunks makes this version one step up from the chocolate banana flavor thats just a solid cream coating (yet to be reviewed here, the box seems to have snuck off somewhere). It’s a nice idea, but I’ll just stick to banana flavors with vanilla biscuits.

This week’s flavor is vanilla whipped cream! Although the concept is interesting, it just...does’t taste very good. Whipped cream is light and fluffy, which is hard to capture in a solid chocolate based coating. Like other white chocolate/vanilla flavors, this was too sweet and overall left a lot to be desired

After last week’s beverage-inspired flavor, we are moving on to milk tea pocky, covered with crushed almond pieces. This flavor was so exciting, but I wasn’t able to fully enjoy it, because I ordered it online only for it to arrive long past its expiration date. I tried it because I spent good money on these uncommon flavors, but it tasted off. Let this be a lesson! Most flavors come and go in cycles, and are pretty hard to find once they are gone. More unusual flavors offered online are likely quite old, from back when the flavor was in regular circulation.
Back to the review! I’m going to give the flavor the benefit of the doubt, because I love milk teas, and love flavors that introduce a crunchy element (ie, delicious almond bits). The cream was nice and bittersweet, with milky overtones that still made the box not too bad despite being stale. ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ( 3 / 5 ) - skewed due to being stale
This week brings you one of the many macha or green tea variations glico has put out. This special, extra fine macha with a macha biscuit stick is, well, not the best flavor for someone who doesn’t like macha (like me). That said, this richer flavor was more natural than the normal green tea flavor, which I find a little waxy tasting. I was apprehensive at first, but I think you really can taste the difference in quality that they are claiming on the box.

(only because I just don’t love macha, if you do like the flavor this will probably be 5 stars for you!)
Happy Wednesday! This week is a slight twist on the classic flavor we all know and love- traditional pocky but this time with a bold, extra thick layer of chocolate. Now, I know there is thin pocky, so I guess this makes sense, but. I’m a chocolate-loving girl, and if I want more chocolate on my pocky, I’ll just reach for a box of their midi chocolate, which has a creamier chocolate and just goes all the way as far as extra coating goes. That leaves this box as an awkward in between that I don’t see myself ever craving in the future.

Got milk? This week we have a second attempt at dairy flavors- which, thankfully, is much better than the last. This summer-branded milk pocky is light, creamy, and not too cheesy. I was surprised to find myself finishing the box without even realizing it! Milk flavored candies and snacks are much less common in the US, and this is probably my favorite out of ones I have tried.

This week, Kumamon brings a simple but effective solution to last week’s problem! The revamped hot cocoa flavor comes with bits of cookie mixed into the milky chocolate coating. This is the perfect addition to make a mediocre flavor much more enjoyable! The crunchy bits remind me of dunking cookies into my hot chocolate as a kid, and I love it.

This week’s special guest is Kumamon, here to introduce hot cocoa pocky. I love the concept, but struggle to see how this flavor really stands out, aside from having a chocolate biscuit stick. There are a lot of ‘milky’ chocolate flavors so I am not sure what exactly could make this cocoa flavor stand out on its own. Luckily, Glico seemed to think the same thing– come back next week to see how they amped up this flavor! ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ( 3 / 5 )
This week’s flavor is quite a-peeling! Bittersweet milk chocolate with dried orange and cookie bits ! I love flavors that think outside of the box with texture, but the flavor palette was a little all over the place for me. Maybe a darker chocolate, or more prominent ‘orange’ flavors would have made me happy. Instead, it came off more like a chocolate cookie stick with a hint of orange, but not too bad of a flavor overall. Points for creativity!
