Do schools in Japan do anything special for Halloween? Iām sorry if this has been asked before.
Iāve never taught at schools, but a quick Google shows that at least some schools celebrate it. I also know that (most?) American JETs make sure their schools do something. I hope some of them will reply to this post. Nudge nudge hint hint. ;)
Both of the schools that I teach at do various things for Halloween, even without me. One school had small parties/activities varying based on the teacher of each class last year. The second grade class that I would sit in on ended Japanese class early to have a little party where they all dressed up and Chavez each other around while pretending to be zombies. My other school does Some sort of Halloween themed reading contest with various Halloween themed prizes from the librarian.
Aside from that I think most ALTs demo countries that celebrate Halloween try room so something doe the holiday. Some people five out Halloween themed stickers. Some people dress up. Some create Halloween themed games or activities for their lessons. I always do a craft with the 1st through 4th grade. And try to fit on something Halloween with the 5th and 6th grades if I can. This year I did trick or treating during recess at both schools. I think it varies how much they get into it, depending on how strict the schools are, and what the specific rules at each school are.
I can only speak for my two elementary schools though.
I got the green light to do aĀ āHalloween Partyā at my two elementary schools this year, with decorations/sweets/games. Prior to this, their Halloween experience has been things like jack-o-lantern coloring sheets and stuff - Iām the first ALT theyāve had who dresses up in costume. They donāt do anything outside of my classes, either (that Halloween reading contest sounds so great, Iām jealous).Ā
At my junior highs, they asked me to theme an activity (like their listening practice thing) for the day.
