It's time for February's Bird Whisperers! This month's bird is the Saw-Whet Owl, and it is one of the smallest owl species native to North America. To add a nice, mythical feel (and a nod at February's birthstone), I wanted to paint this little one in an orb ringed with gold and adorned with amethyst. The original is 8x8" acrylic on Canson cold press watercolor paper, and is for sale for $100 USD + s&h. There will also be 8x8" limited run of 10, hand embellished prints for $25 USD + s&h. Tonight’s Super Snow Moon (or Hunger Moon) is upon us. It’s the last embrace of winter before the flowering of spring Hunger Moon BY JANE COOPER The last full moon of February stalks the fields; barbed wire casts a shadow. Rising slowly, a beam moved toward the west stealthily changing position until now, in the small hours, across the snow it advances on my pillow to wake me, not rudely like the sun but with the cocked gun of silence. I am alone in a vast room where a vain woman once slept. The moon, in pale buckskins, crouches on guard beside her bed.
