If I woke up in a yuri world I would be a boy πΉ I just know it because it'd be soooo infuriating for me but funny for the plot
I'm back on my bullshit! Never really left BUT I AM BACK BABY π₯³
amir khusrowΒ (1253β1325 CE)
This is back on my dash! And listen, I love to see Amir Khusrau getting appreciation, but this translation ignores a lot. The original rhymes! And scans! And does playful things with register! And conveys a tone of affectionate banter between the two speakers, not least because it has them both addressing each other as sakhi (translated above as βgirlβ) in the last two lines. I think taking some liberties with line order is worth it to preserve more of the restβand I think thereβs a better translation of sakhi. And so:
He only visits once a year, I splurge big on him when heβs here, His kisses make my tastebuds tango. Who, bitch, your man? Nah, bitch, a mango.
Thanks @wellpardonme for sending this to me!

This is my second read from the Regency Era Sapphic Romance With Bridgerton Vibes genre.
Well, this book doesn't quite have Bridgerton vibes. No fancy balls or matchmaking business. Instead, it's the story of two women fighting for their independence and identity in a society designed against both, all whilst trying desperately to protect their loved ones. Itβs about two rival gothic novelists who are brought together repeatedly despite their best efforts to stay away from each other, as if by fate (or perhaps something more, as we discover later). Eventually, they get trapped in a haunted manor where they have to navigate their feelings, as well as solve the property's many mysteries, including a suspicious death.
The romance itself is as devastatingly beautiful as I could have hoped for, if not even better. It has that Wicked style rivals-to-lovers arc, the wit and yearning of Jane Austen, the gothic atmosphere of Mary Shelley, the mystery of Agatha Christie, and actual paranormal activity to top it all off.
But I have to admit, it also felt a little incomplete at times. Like Iris' reaction to Selina's brother's mention. Was she crushing on him? Did they meet later? We don't get to know. The book focuses a little too much on the two main characters. We don't get much glimpse into their relationships with their other friends. Or the friends themselves who all piqued my interest but the author refused to explore their lives further.
Still, I quite liked this book and had a hard time putting it down. I love how every chapter starts with a quote from either classic literature or something written by one of the characters (some of which are really funny). And I love Alexandra Vasti's writing style. It's kind of a blend of classic and modern writing. It hits that sweet spot in between where the language neither feels too contemporary, nor hard to decipher like classic authors.
Overall, it was a great experience. I look forward to reading more of her work.
Personal rating: 4.5/5

Damn Sesame Street is brutal! Kermit was teaching the audience how to identify facial expressions when Cookie Monster walked in and started saying something about his love for cookies. Kermit mercilessly scolded him and threatened to tell his mom. Cookie Monster was devastated and started crying because he didn't wanna disappoint his mom. Then Kermit looked at the camera and said, "See kids? This is a sad face!" and then he told Cookie that HE (K) forgave him (C)?? Bitch YOU just made him cry??
Not being a poet is killing me
I was watching this video on youtube where instead of saying "the servant would do this and this" they were saying "the enslaved person would do this and this" and it was such a small yet powerful detail! Really goes to show how much the words we use matter.
Most of those shiny self-help motivational books are a waste of money in my opinion. More so if they're written by men. Get their free pdfs first (or read from a public library). If you like it, only then consider buying.
I'm a vengeful bitch. I'll steal catfood from a cat to show them how it feels when they bug me during mealtime.

Please don't do me like this
It doesn't matter whether or not "the masses" understand or accept a social change. If that were the case, we wouldnβt have any societal changes at all in history. "The masses" don't care about such things. They're too busy living their own lives. If ever "the masses" do go against a social change, it's because more powerful people are manipulating them. It's the powerful that are against change, not "the masses".
