Want an AU where Adam has to come down for his meeting with Charlie and in the middle of it goes into labour.
Charlie's thousand mile staring at the baby she just helped deliver, his white skin, his drying but blonde locks, those rose red cheek marks.
Adam's helmet off, Lute is just pacing angrily because she doesn't know how else to feel, and this baby is obviously her father's.
She and Adam both know what's going on, what happened, she has questions she doesn't want answered and he has answered he doesn't want questioned.
He shoves the baby into her arms, "I can't take him back... I can't." With Lute's help, Adam leaves.
Charlie calls her father and he's there before she can walk out of the room on her wobbly legs.
Lucifer tries to speak, but what can he say? He slept with Adam, once, months ago. It's why he couldn't bear to go to the meeting.
He'd been lonely, Adam had been annoying, the spark of attraction had been more like an inferno when they got their hands on each other that night. Lucifer had been dodging Adam for months, too embarrassed by his loss of control and his lust to face him.
He takes the baby home. What else can Lucifer do? The baby needed one of them.
Part of him can't believe Adam would abandon the child, the other part knows it was the only choice Adam had. What was he going to do? Show up in heaven and be like, "meet my son, the devil is his other dad." Adam had to leave him, giving birth wasn't his plan that day, but keeping him was probably never an option.
Still, Lucifer wishes Adam stayed.
He wishes so hard that he swears he sees Adam from the corner of his eye.
Swears their son's nursery feels like someone was just in it.
There's a cry one night that's settled, but Lucifer gets up anyway. Might as well check.
Bathed in the light from the hall is Adam in the rocking chair by the open nursery window. Their son on his chest, nursing.
Adam looks horror struck at having been caught. He doesn't try to make an excuse for his being there or why he abandoned their son. Lucifer can see the streaks of tears down Adam's face. Adam couldn't keep the boy, but he couldn't keep away.
"Stay?" He asks, afraid of the answer.
Adam looks like answering would shatter him.
In the stillness of night they stay. The son feeds and yawns and sleeps once more.
He takes Adam's hand in his, running a thumb over the knuckles of Adam's large hand. "Stay?" He asks again.
Adam doesn't answer, but he doesn't pull away, he lets Lucifer lead him to bed.
Stripped of barriers, under the cover of the night and blankets, Adam shutters and sobs again.
Lucifer doesn't have answers for Adam's heart, torn between heaven and hell, all he can do is try to hold the pieces of Adam together until Adam can figure them out.
He runs his hand down Adam's soft side, making Adam shutter in a different way.
"I- I can't. I'm still..." the first words Lucifer had heard from Adam since their night together.
"I know." Lucifer assures Adam. He's not looking for sex, just to comfort.
He kisses Adam's wet cheeks and tastes the salt from his tears.
"I know." He assures Adam again. And again. And again. Until Adam's cried out. Until Adam's eyes grow too heavy to stay open. Until Adam relaxes.
Lucifer doesn't know what Adam will do. Will he make a choice or will they remain some dirty little secret that Adam keeps from heaven? Like Lucifer had kept about Adam.
Did they even stand a chance at being a they?
He didn't know. He didn't know if he even wanted that.
There was still so much unsaid, so much to figure out.
Lucifer slipped his hand into Adam's under the pillow.
He regretted being a coward all those months. They both were cowards.
Whatever the future held, Lucifer was only sure that he'd have to try and do better and hope Adam did too.
