But what was one to do when a restless spirit from the settlement years finally breaks free from restraints and demands you answer for your ancestor's crimes? Vladimir doesn't know. ‘She can’t leave me.’ His mind echoed as he stared into the wall, holding his breath until he couldn't.

He exhaled, ran a hand through his hair and sat up to look around his room. Everything looked normal except for the large bunches of roses next to the bed and by the windows. They almost seemed to breathe the more he looked at them. Something shiny caught his attention, and he looked down at the floor to find all of Tayonna’s clothes scattered about.

The gold thread of her corset shimmered as the sliver of sun touched it. He crawled to the edge, reached for her corset and blouse, and clenched them in his fist. Slowly, he brought the blouse to his nose and was surprised to find it smelled of cider and pine, a scent he had noticed in passing but had never connected back to her. Vlad shuddered when he took another whiff as the events of last night flashed before his eyes. The touch of her, the sound of her voice, the way her face twisted in pleasure as she refused to give in, especially during their second round.

Vlad knew he was going to lose himself and do something vile if he didn’t stop. He quickly got out of bed, picked up her clothes, and folded them. He thought about putting them on the bed until he saw how completely wrecked his sheets were. Dried blood, sweat, and something else that made Vlad blush wildly. He gathered himself, placed her clothes in a distant chair, and hurried to his bathroom for a shower. When he caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, Vlad jumped like a cat.
