i wrote this post with happy tears in my eyes sitting in a parking lot after getting coffee for 3 hours with someone i did youth shakespeare with when we were teenagers and hadn't seen in 15 years, in which time we both transitioned, got into nerd shit, found a job that feels good, found people to spend our gay little lives with, and coincidentally moved to the same city. this is exactly how it felt. never ever ever kill yourself

Despite it all I can't hate solarpunk. It's caramel-apple sweet-simplistic, a desire for a greater world on one simple axis without grappling with any kind of political reality. You can chip at its ankles but unfortunately it will still be kind of awesome epicsauce at its heart. Sometimes you really do need to just cut past all the hard-nosed realism, get back to the kid looking up at you with those big blubbering eyes saying "what if everyone was nice to eachother?" That kid does not know an ant's arse about the real world or how it works, but they're still 1000 times more correct than all of us trying to explain why it can't be done. You can't lose sight of the stupid, hopeless dream. You can't lose sight of it. Otherwise you turn into a dickhead.

that Brian Eno quote about how whatever you find most repulsive about a medium (film grain, record scratches/fuzz, CDs skipping) will be the first thing you try and emulate once that medium is obsolete because it's "the sign of a moment too powerful for the medium assigned to contain it".... man.......

The old school lack of transparency on tumblr is amazing because you assume the people you follow must all be equivalent to you and then you see someone write “I brought my youngest to college today” and someone else write “my mom wouldn’t let me listen to Ariana Grande when I was a kid” and then your head explodes

honestly one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that people of different ages than us can still be the same kind of person as us. it's humbling and it gives everyone involved a sense of continuity, and it busts those stupid generational stereotypes media is so fond of.
