Cultural Identity is feeling like you belong to a specific group, whether it be nationality, ethnicity, religion, social class, or even what generation you are in. Cultural identity plays a huge role in design when it comes to the clothing you wear or even how your house is decorated, the way it is built ect. Our lives actually revolve around cultural identity because it also plays a role on how we view ourselves and others. I chose Lulu Lemon leggings for a piece of clothing that makes me feel like I am part of a specific âgroupâ I use quotations around the word group because there is a lot of controversy around these types of leggings and how people will assume you are wealthy and assume your social class if you wear them, which is why I think its a perfect example of cultural identity. Now personally I do not purchase these leggings because I want people to think of me as wealthy because I certainly am not at all! I buy them because they are good quality and have lasted me many years so it was almost like an investment. The number one element of this product that makes it identify as a cultural identity is the price point, they retail for just about $98.00 a pair, the entire brand is very pricy which then makes the people who wear and buy their products look like they are in a higher class.Â
