For my three dimensional item I chose this wall clock. If the wall clock were two dimensional instead of three dimensional the clock would not catch your eye as much. One cannot tell by the photo but it comes off the wall quite a bit and is very large, making it a focal point in the room. The three dimensionality of the roman numerals and the clock hands also draws a person in. If that was lost the clock would not have the same effect. However, if you did not want the clock as a focal piece of the room turning into a two dimensional item would be beneficial. Since there are not any bright colors the loss of 3d would be more drastic because there is not pop of color to catch someones eye. This is something you must be careful of when going from one dimension to another. When turning this into a sketch highlights and shadows would need to be emphasized in order to create dimension. Â
Yesterday I took a trip to Newport and went to the Brick Ally Pub restaurant, they have so many great examples of 3d design elements as you can see from this picture. Specifically I would like to focus on the 3d tiger head they have displayed. If this were changed into a 2d painting or drawing of a tiger the sense of it actually being in the room with you would be completely lost. Since this tiger is more simplistic and not as realistic in its features, if this were transferred into a sketch it wouldn’t be as interesting to look at or have any impact on people viewing it. The fact that the tiger is a 3d sculpture makes it okay that it is not as realistic because you still get the feeling that it is real and in the room with you. For this piece to become 2d and still have the wow factor on people it would defiantly need to have lots of realistic features with emphasis on the shadows and highlights to almost give a 3d feel even though it would be 2d.Â
Here's a sample animation of Brachiopoo. Making the characters in 3D allows rigging and more complex animation. 🤔.... #decisionsdecisions #3d #3danimation #gamedeveloping #pooapp #app #2dor3d
