How I study for finals
The most important step, PLAN PLAN AND PLAN!
This includes both a bigger plan for how youâre gonna cover the syllabus and a smaller day to day plan, for example if I have one monthâs worth of classes in a final, Iâll usually do 5-7 dayâs worth in one day. And I start out by the things I know very least. What I find most useful is downloading a calendar and filling it in this is an example of my brutal internal medicine schedule
As you can see, I donât go by the order of the class schedule, instead I divide topics depending on what I already know most about and plan accordingly, taking both order and workload into consideration (obviously the things in lilac above would take a fraction of time compared to the things in yellow for example) and when it comes to reviewing, I go through the yellow stuff first. A crucial thing I do is that I leave at least 2-3 days empty because we all know schedules donât always go as planned. And obviously this isnât my entire IM syllabus, I already finished cardiopulmonology and other branches so I didnât include them.
As for the actual day plan, I find that studying for the entire day can be extremely tough for me and wears me out like crazy, I only do one study session in the morning, spend 3-5 hours hanging out with people or playing sims, whatever I want basically, do practice questions for 2 more hours (relevant to that study session of course) and chill out for the rest of the night.
Moral of the story, pulling an all day study session/cramming=early burn out. You donât want that so literally plan every part of your day, this is a crucial time.
I always say this but itâs so important, passive reading is NOT ENOUGH DO SOME PRACTICE TESTS/MCQs or whatever you can. Like I said, I do practice questions for things Iâve went over every single night during finals and that honestly imo is waaaay more important than just reading the stuff over and over. An important thing to mention here is to NOT GET DISCOURAGED when you get stuff wrong, thatâs actually something you learned and you wonât make that same mistake again so .. itâs all good, youâre making progress.
Thatâs the main part of how I actually study, below are some of my tips that I stick to by heart.
Use the same source you learned from during the year this is crucial for your memory, do not *spontaneously* decide to use a different textbook or source just before your finals, whatever you studied from HAS TO BE what you revise from.
All nighters wonât do you any good Obviously your brain needs to sleep in order to consolidate information so just make sure you get enough sleep, some people study better at night and they get plenty of sleep during the day, not the ideal situation for your circadian rhythm or hormones but if it works for you, do it (itâs finals, weâre all practically dead anyways) .. yeah just make sure you get some sleep in. And trust me when I say no matter how much you think you can cram and get in during those hours youâll be sleeping, sleep is so much more important than that, I know itâs tempting but GO TO BED.
Now is not the ideal time to eat absolute garbage food because youâll feel like shit and (if youâre anything like me) wonât get anything done âŚso just eat the best way you can and Iâm not gonna be one of those people who tell you to work out because I canât bring myself to do it during finals, itâs just too much for my lazy ass .. but I do stretch every now and then and my âbreaksâ usually consist of me going on a walk or something. So just do little things that can make you feel good but donât freak out if you canât exercise or get 2 hours in at the gym, just keep a healthy balance. I have no idea if thereâs any scientific background to this but I (think) honestly believe that almonds help with my memory?
Know that itâs honestly okay to stop when youâve had enough and that everything eventually ends and that a bunch of numbers (your grade) DOES NOT DEFINE YOU. So what if you lose a few marks? So what if you donât get this and this right? Even if you fail, what the fuck is wrong with that? Youâll learn from your mistakes and do better. The fact that youâre trying to better yourself and trying to learn new study techniques is enough, you should be proud of yourself regardless of the outcome.
This is never not funny
reblogginâ cause that is the actual look on my face when that happens
trying out passwords
contemplating whether i should attend my law class this evening. Im so burned out even though i haven't studied anything for that class. Burned out spiritually and mentally. I can't function well im always sad i dont knowwwww adafsgadadadafa :(??

idc if u like winter or autumn or whatever nothing tops summer evenings when the sun hasnt fully set and the air is still warm but theres a light breeze and everything is getting more quiet except for the birds and crickets and its a perfect time to go on a walk and just breathe
dancing around your room to music is one of the ultimate forms of self care
some days all you can do is breathe and hope for the next, and thatâs okay
you should never date someone for the sake of dating someone. you should be good friends, if not best friends with your partner. if you cant go to your partner for personal advice, if youre afraid to call your partner out on something, if you cant laugh and have fun with your partner, or if your conversations are only ever performative affection, you donât have a good relationship
Itâs wild but, itâs no coincidence that life gets harder for you when youâre doing the right thing. Keep going.

i want a soft love that feels like when ur standing in the sunlight and u donât want to leave and that gives u the sensation of lazily melting into whatâs around u as u take it all in
in this gay and age,
When your brain finally has some good creative ideas but itâs 3 AM and you need to sleep
so hereâs a quick lesson about having patience with kids.
I have a 6th grade student who isnât really interested in doing her homework (big surprise). from my experience, kids who arenât trying to do their homework usually fall into two general categories â âthis is too easy and therefore boringâ and âthis is too hard and therefore iâm not even going to attemptâ. it became clear by October that she fell into the latter group, but most of the staff chalked it up to âshe doesnât understand itâ. I didnât really believe it because she was a very smart, emotionally aware girl and it didnât seem like she didnât always want to try, just that she would rather do other things than struggle with her work.Â
yesterday, she got sent to my office, just so that she would have a space away from her friends to focus on her work, and she asked me to help her with two questions. I looked at them and they were fairly straightforward, simple questions about the results of using various amounts of force on an object. I did what I always do â I read the question out loud first, and then tried to help her use recall to figure it out. she did in a snap. I did the same with the second question, and before I even finished it, she went âOH!â and started writing her answer.
thatâs when it hit me â she doesnât have trouble with the material, she just has trouble reading and processing what sheâs reading at the same time. big difference! I asked her and she confirmed that it was easier to hear a question and understand it than to read it and understand it. so I got her phone out, pulled up her voice recorder, and told her to try reading the question aloud and then playing it back to herself so she could process it and she looked like i had handed her the holy grail.
the moral of the story is that sometimes you have to set aside what you think is a problem with a kid and just watch for whatâs easier for them. will she be able to do that during a test? maybe not, BUT now that she knows that the issue is processing reading and that sheâs an auditory learner, sheâs in a better position to ask for resources to help her work better in school.
so iâm off to the school counselor to let her know so she can possible get more tools for auditory learners. Â
I want to add that for a lot of kids itâs not about being a visual vs. an auditory learning â the problem is that they were only presented the information in one way.
Both people who identify as visual learners and people who identify as auditory learners tend to retain more knowledge and develop a firmer grasp of subject matter if theyâre taught the same information both ways. Itâs often not a question of which way they learn, people learn best if theyâre taught using a variety of methods.
I had a date tonight with a girl Iâve been seeing and we were talking about tattoos and I mentioned wanting one of a bumblebee behind my ear and she stared at me for a second and then pulled back her hair and showed me a tattoo of a bumblebee behind her ear and lemme tell you if I didnât believe in soulmates before I sure as hell do now thatâs some next level shit

maybe the reason why we cling so much to the stories we read is because we hope in an alternative universe or even some part of our lives, those stories will happen to us although not entirely exact.
self love, self care, and self peace is so important
