This is my first fanfic ever. Nothing here is 100% canon; the events of this story simply take place in the Avengers universe. English is not my first language, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes. I’ve written the first few chapters and will be publishing regularly. Prologue

I never saw it coming—how could I? I was only ten. My older sister and I were huddled in the corner of the orphanage when he appeared. A man in a mask, his metal arm slick with blood. His lifeless eyes swept over us as if we were nothing. I couldn’t look away, my gaze locked on him until the sound of a gunshot shattered the air. My sister’s arms, once wrapped tightly around me, fell limp.

“Leave the last one alive, Soldat,” were the final words I heard before everything went black.

I drifted into a dream, but it wasn’t the nightmare you’d expect. I dreamed of an angel, lifting me so high that even the devil couldn’t reach me. When I woke up, I wasn’t in the danger I feared.

A man with an eyepatch stood over me, his expression calm yet firm. “Everything will be okay now,” he said. “You can rest.”
