Do you remember the episode of Spongebob where he's training gary for the snail race and does a coach persona + calls gary a girl and has an aside where he's like "I called you a lady to demean you 🤓" and right after he says that it cuts to sandy and she somehow telepathically feels that Spongebob just did something misogynistic and us like I feel like I need to kick Spongebobs ass for some reason. And then she appears just at the end of the episode to kick his ass.

i think there's a big difference between "does a celebrity have the right to read the RPF you write about them" and "does a celebrity have the right to read the RPF you write about them to hundreds of thousands of people on their podcast, many of whom might feel quite negatively towards RPF" and there's also a difference between "do they have the right to" and "is that a nice thing to do that will make the fic writers in their audience happy"

Like I think a lot of people are trying to litigate the concept of “do Dan and Phil have a right to read phanfic” instead of “is this a fun and enjoyable podcast segment for all involved.” The podcast is meant to be fun and entertaining and if large groups of people aren’t finding segments fun and entertaining they’re allowed to say so to Dan and Phil. And Dan and Phil would probably appreciate being told that something they meant to land as lighthearted and fun was landing very poorly with some of their audience!

My instructor back in bookbinding school used to say that the mark of a competent craftsperson isn't that you never make mistakes, it's that you know how to fix them. And I think about that a lot.

going through all the muppet movies in a row made me realize that like. miss piggy was made in the 70's. and it's so rare even today to have a character like her. she's loud, she's selfish, she's funny, she's extremely vain, she's obsessed with romance, she's violent, she's kind of annoying, and there's not a single moment in any of these films where she's asked to tone down any of these personality traits. i am not joking when i say that miss piggy might be one of the best treated female characters ever written
