on anti culture & how narrative influences reality
So look.
A common point of discourse from anti-shippers is the fact that narrative influences reality, and therefore - they claim - depictions of harmful acts will have a normalizing effect on how real people perceive those acts outside of fiction. The problem with this claim is that, while there is evidence for the idea that narrative can indeed influence reality, itâs a gross distortion of fact to say that it does so in the specific way they mean.

you wanna see some badass shit from the early 20th century?? The Lumière brothers created the first full color photograph⌠in fucking 1903! So these dudes dyed potatoes (in red, blue, and green), mashed them down into just pure fuckinâ starch, and used these dyed potato starches as filters to block out/let in certain wavelengths of light. They coated one side of a glass plate with the starches and sensitized the other side with a mixture of gelatin and light sensitive materials (silver nitrate) and loaded these plates in their cameras.. This is a really simple explanation of the process and I may have missed some things A few of my favorite autochrome photos:
that last one is literally a LOOK
yes!
but lets not forget sergei prokudin-gorskiy, who developed a similar process in 1902, published in 1903 and then toured russia to take hundreds of color photographs:
AND the guy developed color slide processing as well. as a person fairly familiar with modern b/w processing at home, but never EVER stepping into color (negatives or slides) territory, iâd say, BAMF to the highest degree.Â
Here are a few more Prokudin-Gorskiy / Gorskii shots, and a reminder once again that these arenât recently colourised BW images but original colour photos taken about 120 years ago. Many colourised pics donât look this good. Some modern colour pics donât look this good (as I know all too well. âDelete image Y/N? Y!â)

This legitimately needs to be in future literature textbooks to capture the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Scientific American article points out there is no real reason to exclude transgender athletes
The Scientific American is one of the worldâs leading science journals, so when they print an article about transgender athletes, it is a safe bet that it is science based.
Jack Turban is a fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine, where he researches the mental health of transgender youth.Â
He addresses the arguments behind the American anti-trans bills:
There is no epidemic of transgender girls dominating female sports. Attempts to force transgender girls to play on the boysâ teams are unconscionable attacks on already marginalized transgender children, and they donât address a real problem. Theyâre unscientific, and they would cause serious mental health damage to both cisgender and transgender youthâŚ
The notion of transgender girls having an unfair advantage comes from the idea that testosterone causes physical changes such as an increase in muscle mass. But transgender girls are not the only girls with high testosterone levels. An estimated 10 percent of women have polycystic ovarian syndrome, which results in elevated testosterone levels. They are not banned from female sports.Â
Transgender girls on puberty blockers, on the other hand, have negligible testosterone levels. Yet these state bills would force them to play with the boys. Plus, the athletic advantage conferred by testosterone is equivocal.Â
As Katrina Karkazis, a senior visiting fellow and expert on testosterone and bioethics at Yale University explains, âStudies of testosterone levels in athletes do not show any clear, consistent relationship between testosterone and athletic performance. Sometimes testosterone is associated with better performance, but other studies show weak links or no links. And yet others show testosterone is associated with worse performance.â The billsâ premises lack scientific validity.

Why are all of you reblogging this without the important context that Alan Denton is a writer on Sonic Boom?
do cowboys believe in soulmates
Soulmates are made. Love is made. Nothing stays unless you work for it.
The em dash is rich with power. But youâll lose yourself.
ive been on tumblr a long time and i remember when everyone said âoh donât romanticize mental illnessâ and it was agreed that doing that was gross and a good way to kill people indirectly
but somehow weâve come full circle and there are people who legit defend their right to be anti-recovery there are people who donât want to get better and spread the idea that you canât get better as if itâs gospel and itâs fucking frightening to me bc nobody seems to want to say âhey? this is toxic and untrue and is your disease speaking, and itâs not something you should accept.â
and i feel like every recovery post gets about 500 of these people saying âthis isnât something that will workâ âcool karen iâm depressedâ âmaybe it worked for you but it wonât work for other peopleâ and thatâs⌠just⌠im so sorry if youâre 15. iâm sorry if youâre in high school and watching grown adults tell you it doesnât get better. that nobody says that with time and help and patience the world stops being so heavy, that accepting your illness as a fact is one thing but accepting it as the only way to be is just wrong, that you can learn to live with it and still find some degree of âhappyââŚ. if i had seen this shit back when i was ⌠oh god starting at 12 when i was already self-harming âŚ. i think iâd have actually honest-to-god killed myself. not a joke, not a funny tumblr punchline, i would have actually just killed myself.Â
iâm saying this right here and right now to the adults on this site. if you for any reason shoot down positivity thatâs causing no harm - you might have indirectly worsened someone elseâs condition, and you should try and do better in the future. if you find it necessary to tell people ârecovery is a lieâ, you need to do better. i know everyone has different circumstances, but i also know that mental illness behaves in such a way that everyone thinks they canât recover. if you feel like you should be spreading the Word Of Relapse, you are causing toxic language to be normalized and you need to do better.Â
im team âcool karen ive got depression and that means iâm going to try this because iâve got to try somethingâ iâm team âromanticize recoveryâ iâm team âit isnât working now but it might in the future and itâs worth staying to find outâ im team âhey this didnât work for me but it might help somebody else outâ
fuck guys it shouldnât be an unpopular opinion to say âi donât want any of you to dieâ.
Oh thank fuck someone finally said it!

March 10, 2021 - French dub is released and it turns out the confession scene is much more intense that it was in the English version. Destiel goes canon again.
Here you can find the links to the scene in French: [x]. A full analysis here: [x].
A few highlights:
The confession itself goes: âje tâaime Dean,â âne me fais pas ça, Castielâ which translates to âI love you, Dean,â âdonât do this to me, Castielâ (it uses a singular you in âI love youâ), while the English version is âI love you,â âdonât do this, Cas.â
âBecause you cared, I caredâ in French dub is: âparce que j'ai senti que tu tenais Ă moi, et que moi aussi je tenais Ă toiâ (âbecause I felt that you cared for me, I too cared for youâ).
The line âI cared about the whole world because of youâ in the French dub is: âSi j'ai autant aimĂŠ ce monde, c'est uniquement grâce Ă toiâ (âIf I cared for/loved this world so much, itâs only because of youâ).
To whoever is responsible for this dub: merci beaucoup!
@teamfreewill-sissa Thank you! This sounds so much better!
they should invent water for men
Good news OP
While this is a funny joke, as far as I'm aware this company is actually pretty cool, and the purpose behind the Liquid Death (sparkling or still) water is quite wholesome.
Part of the reason for it being a tallboy is that aluminum cans are more recyclable than water bottles, potentially infinitely so, while water bottles either have a limited amount of recyclability potential or aren't actually recyclable at all.
The other reason is to literally make it more fun and appealing to drink something other than alcohol at concert venues. Part of getting over addiction or even getting away from a culture that is doing you harm is, in the US at least, heavily associated with becoming "no fun". The idea here is to make water as fun in terms of packaging as alcohol, so people who are going sober, who can't drink, or who are the Designated Driver don't have to feel like they're relegated to the "no fun zone" forever and still get to order something with a silly name. We had these at my brother's wedding as an alcohol alternative and tbh it was really neat.
From the Liquid Death website:
"Most products in the health and wellness space are all marketed with âaspirationalâ fitness models and airbrushed celebrities. And many of us are tired of it. Why should unhealthy products be the only brands with âpermissionâ to be loud, fun, and weird? And let's be honest, almost all marketing and branding is just theater. So weâre going to treat our theater like a movie theater and have more fun with it."
So yeah! If you want a neat alternative to buying bottled water, this isn't a bad alternative. Also, if you feel like you miss the feeling of opening a can of beer and drinking one, especially with carbonation, this could help curb the urge without having to substitute soda.
Oh. So it was a stand against single use plastic, alcoholism culture, and eating disorders disguised as fitness.
