is that all i am to you? was that all that i ever was too you? i thought you were different and accepted me for me, not because you wanted something out of me. i’m trying to understand your perspective of things but all i feel is guilt for not being able to give you want you want and objectified even though i have a right to set my boundaries and say no. i don’t think you see how you’re portraying yourself and how little you’re making me feel. i’m glad this is over otherwise i would not have seen this side of you. i guess this is goodbye.

(I initially wrote this as a small assignment for school, but I felt like sharing what I have written to the world. I’m not the best writer but I hope you can take a moment to read what I have written. Thank you and lots of love.)

Throughout the four years that I have spent at this school, many people have entered and left my life. The most significant of those people include all the friends I have made throughout those years that have stuck by my side through thick and thin; thus, what I have written below is dedicated to all the people I have had the pleasure of being able to call my friends and now my family.

I hope that, as we begin our new journeys through life, the memories we have made and the lessons we have learned thus far will be remembered and looked back upon as you continue forward in your journey.

We have walked this earth for nearly two decades. Although this may not sound like much, we have learned a lot in this amount of time and have a lot more to learn in the decades to come. We have felt a multitude of emotions, the most fundamental of which being joy and sorrow. The four years at this school were filled with both joy and sorrow and we will continue to experience those same feelings in the next few years at college as well as for the rest of our lives. When you find yourselves stuck in an abyss of sorrow, I hope you always remember that joy and sorrow are both here to balance each other; without one or the other, we would not be able to feel as deeply as we do. Remember to use the joy that you have felt as hope for the future when you are at your lowest and use the hardships and the struggles you have endured to push yourself even further than you ever imagined you could go when you are at your highest. I believe with everything in me that you are capable of all that you put your mind to.

Like joy and sorrow, reason and passion should also be brought into balance. I know that the closer we get towards fulfilling our careers and dreams, we tend to either lean more on reason or on passion whether or not we realize it. Depending too much on reason will never allow you to take the risks necessary to reach your fullest potential and depending too much on passion can ultimately destroy the things that you so strongly desired for. I know that there is an abundance of things waiting for every one of you throughout your life’s path, but don’t forget to take a moment to harmonize the thoughts in your head and the feelings in your heart.

Also, remember all the friendships you have made, and don’t forget to be open to the new friendships that will soon come your way. Each of you has taught me the power of friendship and how friends will always be there for you, no matter how much you unintentionally push them away when you’re feeling down and empty inside. Seek the love you deserve and give back to others the love that they need. Remember not to be afraid to cut ties with those that are bringing you down- your happiness is important. Friends will be there to bring you peace when it’s needed and are there to stick by you through your moments of failure and your moments of celebration.
