My grandpa liked to fix things up.

He built his cabinets himself.

He laid the kitchen tile down,

put speaker switches on a shelf.

but all of that was not enough;

he laid the carpet, too.

The dryer was a fickle thing.

It never did quite stay in shape.

It'd cough and sputter angrily;

he'd fix it every time it'd break.

But now that fate has cut the string,

a thought, but gone

a headache combined with your sight

something waiting, lurking, hiding from you

behind layers of migraine-infested debris

replace what you see, what you say

with the mask that unfurls over top of your face

for honesty is your disgrace

a want, but gone

a relapse combined with your might

something changing, relating, rewinding away

behind layers of things stripped away from your memory

revise what you need, what you make

with the fog that unfurls and expands in your way

pages of tangled up grief

mourning a life that created you broken and weak

humbled to death

told to remain in your place

robbed of your breath

never allowed the assortment of change that you see

surrounding the bubble encasing you

never give in to temptation

you show too much skin

too provocative

keep your mind thoughtful, evocative

only toward the direction we want it in

keep yourself quiet and never dare ask for a change

for a chance to try something outside of the bounds of the bubble

never give in to the outside world

to the pressure

doubt what you doubt

for doubting our faith is a sin

you show too much skin

you offer temptation to all those around you

there's something inside you that needs to be taught its true value

to be purged

removed from the mind that we cultivated

told that it's righteous for us to so hate it

flick off the lightswitch and ready yourself

for the laying on of hands

there's something inside you that needs to be herded away

an endless stream of shouted words

at a snapshot of a life

at something I find unfair

a crisis over a faulty wire

and a rip in the fabric that wasn't there before

I shout into nothing, alone

failing to make the repair

and falling apart at the seams

I'm screaming

and you're not there

an endless breeze of reprimand

at a slightly twitching hand

at something I can't control

disownment over a growing fire

and a rift in the fuel source that wasn't there before

I scream at the flames, alone

failing to put out the blaze

failing to herd out the scare

I'm freezing

and you're not there

I scream into nothing, alone

and fail to write a repair

I'm breaking

and you're not there

it's ending

replace your words. condense your mind.

replace the 's' with a dollar sign

replace the 'e' with a euro or dash

the 'l' with a dot or line or slash

leave the 'f' as it comes, so the word still reads

with the rest of it gone, it's no meaning to bleed

tear the hope from the sharing, the want from the need

pull the concept apart and replace it with greed

remake your words. condemn your mind.

replace the 'h' with a hashtag sign

replace the 'a' with a dash or an at,

the 'r' with a dot or a line or a slash

leave the 'm' as it comes, for the word's all gone

lie in wait to be changed, and it won't be long

for there's no meaning left in the word or the crime

never admit.

never turn back on the words that you said.

never turn back on the promise you made

to stay true to your head.

you were born to hold your ground.

never diffuse.

never turn back on the bomb that you lit.

never turn back on the promise you made

to stay true to the flame.

you were raised to hold your ground.

for what?

to be like him?

to keep the trait you share with the presence that you hate?

to be raised on argument;

to be taught to obfuscate

the truth of what you think behind your words you can't relent

it's too late to turn back.

to be wrong is to die

not to die, but to fail

every win in the household you hate is determined by who can speak louder their lie

it's a risk to give up.

never commit.

never turn to what's clearly defined.

if you have to turn back then you'll

be caught in lie

you were born

you were raised

it's too late

movement

you are momentum, the force pushing forward when all else is still

you thrive in the dark, when it's dim

with no brighter light drowning out what cascades from your heart

you are motion

the wind in the leaves and progression from day into night

you are feeling and rhythm and timing and living on sound

emotion

found stronger in presence of rhythm and beat

you are motion

and movement

and finding the sound in the quiet

somatic

the motion of body to rhythm sways into perception

and suddenly there you can see what of you had been smothered beneath all the dust and debris

of movement, of rhythm, of sound, and of learning to listen

you are fluid, cascading,

the metal of your mind exists in perfect parallel with what it hides

a simple stride, defined by wasting time

who puts it back in line?

and what's a little wear and tear? 

a little chipping here and there

and where it grinds on sharing care

deny the change, refuse the scare

but what's a little bit of rust?

a little bit of piling dust

you hide from trust but know you must

allow a little through the mud

and what's a little wear and tear?

the metal of your mind exists and strains against the parallels it hides

who calls it wasting time?

Envy

a deadly sin

a lapse in your judgment

for any injustice you come to despise

jealousy comes to deny you its closure

it could have been me

it could have been me

it could have been me

always framed as the villain to take from another

in feeling this anger with envy inside

it could have been me

it could have been me

i could have been someone that wasn't so programmed to hide

"jealously takes", "jealously molds", "jealously lies"

when do i get the ease i'm denied?

it could have been me

i could have been granted a lifetime that never made envy arrive

but in suffering, jealousy's always the crime

be ashamed, that you'd wish for an easier time,

for a healthier life,

for a year without waiting to die

it could have been me

a lapse in your judgment

You need energy

but you're too nauseous to keep anything down

They say "keep your strength up"

and you try

But you can't keep writing lyrically

and hoping that it goes somewhere new

There's a light at the end of the tunnel

but your migraine turns it into an enemy

You try to listen in on the lullabies

but the headaches turn it into a screeching cacophony

You need company

but you're too anxious to keep anything down

They say "keep your head up"

and you try

But you can't keep writing symphonies

and waiting for the music to start

There's an industry

and you're too nervous to look into their eyes

They say "we'll fix you up"

and they try

But you can't keep seeking everything

and hoping that you find it somewhere

You need energy

but you're too nauseous to keep anything

found again

waiting for the watchers to come round again

sounds again

feeling your heart pound again

just another method to the kill

just another thrill

just another day, another pill

but I'm feeling chills

wound again

like a spring coiled up and waiting out again

ground again

find a way to hold it down again

just another method to the wait

just another place

just another time, another day

in invaded space

followed by the waiting watchful eyes

just another prize

followed and unmade, immobilized

but I don't forget everything.

I remember the face of the water

the look on her face when I'd stay a bit longer

and speak to the ocean the words I was thinking

between sand, between pebbles, the high and the low tide

I tried to remember her name and forgot mine

but I don't forget everything.

I remember the waves on the shoreline

occasional earthquakes, a place on a fault line

I'd speak to the moonlight the words I was thinking

the dreams that got lost between asteroid-belt nightmares

I looked to hold onto her face and forgot mine

but I don't forget everything.

I remember I'd hike Adam's Canyon

a tree knocked aside of its river companion

I'd speak to the sunrise the words I was thinking

between quartz, between feldspar, and beating down sunshine

you deserve to be seen

you deserve to be loved

not in spite of your flaws,

but because of them.

your whole human body

trussed up with fine detail.

imperfections adorn you like jewelry.

you'll see only blemish,

a smudge on the canvas,

be held up in feigning congruity.

you'll keep all your flaws hidden

and here I will be,

walking awed down the lengths

of the halls of them.

you deserve to be seen

you deserve to be loved

not in spite of your flaws,
