“I can’t believe your daughter wants the local personal injury lawyer as a birthday party theme,” Vi said, rubbing her palms roughly over her face. “This would only happen with your kid. Are you sure this much screen time is good for her?”
“Oh, fuck off,” Powder said. “It’s not the commercials—it’s the damn billboards. She sees the ‘Caitlyn is always watching you’ ones, and she’s obsessed. Maybe you’re just making my daughter into a tiny lesbian.”
“You’ll be horrified if she comes out as straight when she’s older,” Vi replied. “Higher risk of teen pregnancy. She could end up like you.”

————————————
Her concentration faltered when the Queen of Piltover took a step forward. "What's your name?" she whispered.
She glanced between the queens before she was answering, "Cette."
The Queen of Piltover paused for a moment before she inquired, "Do you like cake, Cette?"
This was how, ten minutes later, Cette found herself inside the loud, warm building of The Last Drop, shrinking in on herself as she sat in front of the bar with an unimaginably large piece of cake sat in front of her.
She kept her eyes placed firmly on the cake, but she didn't eat any of it as her ears were trained on the conversation happening behind her.
"I think she was sleeping in the scaffolding up on the lookout," the Queen of Piltover whispered. "Grayson, have you seen her before?"
"I've seen her with some of the other kids that run around these parts. Most kids without homes have come to our volunteers for one thing or another. She's never asked us for anything. I thought maybe she had a home," a low voice answered, and Cette tried not to bristle, debating if she could slip out of the bar now and no one would notice.
Her attention was pulled by a large, burly man leaning across the bar in front of her. Her eyes glanced up at him warily, and he glanced at the conversation happening behind her, and then offered her a small smile.
"You take care of yourself?" he asked, voice just above the hum of the room so only she could hear him.
She chewed on her cheek and offered a short nod.
The man nodded back at her just before he whispered, "You remind me of an old friend of mine." Cette frowned at this statement, opening her mouth to inquire about said friend, but was cut off when the man continued talking. "You should eat. My sons have a penchant for cake, and they may steal your portion if you're not careful," he teased, and Cette sat up a little straighter.
She debated for another moment, before she picked up her fork and started eating. When she tuned back into the conversation behind her, she only heard the low voice stating, "-trusts you, then you're the best option."
The queens seemed to lose interest in the conversation and her after this, for nothing more was said before they moved on to mingle and receive congratulations throughout the rest of the party. Cette finished her cake silently, but when she went to move from the table, the man behind the bar wordlessly placed a plate of hot food in front of her. She considered resisting and taking her leave before any more of a fuss could be made about her, but as the smell of the food hit her nose, she found herself helpless to resist.
It wasn't until she was finishing the plate that she felt someone sit beside her at the bar. Cette didn't look at her. She stared at her empty plate for a long moment before she whispered, “Are you going to make me disappear?”
She wasn't dumb. She knew what was happening. She had been caught. And while she may have slipped out of the grasp of any other adult, she knew she couldn't disobey the queens. She would go to jail if she did. Cette was trapped.
“What?" she heard the Queen of Piltover gasp from behind her. And then she was leaning in over where the Queen of Zaun sat beside her and asked, "Why would you think that?”
Cette hung her head. “The other kids trust the adults, and then I never see them again.”
The Queen of Zaun's voice was kind and patient when she spoke. “That’s because they find homes," she explained. "Families. It's not a bad thing.”
Cette didn't respond to these words, but she saw a pinky finger enter her view from the side. She chewed on her lip, and then slowly turned to stare at where the queens were crowded on one stool, staring at her.
Her eyes dropped to the pinky being offered. And then reaching out her own, she accepted this information. Surely, even queens were held to the laws of a most sacred promise.
"You should stay indoors from now on. There are options," the Queen of Piltover whispered. "There's a boarding house, or we could find you emergency placement with a family." When Cette didn't seem to react to either of these options, the queen added hesitantly, "Or you could stay with us tonight."
Cette's expression was sullen as she received her orders from the queen. She considered their offer, her options. Then taking a deep breath, she admitted, “I don’t want to disappear.”
The queen nodded at this, but her eyes seemed to struggle with something. “I see you right here," Caitlyn whispered, her hand reaching out, swiping under her chin playfully, but the look behind her eyes was anything but playful. "As visible as ever."
Staring at her with wide eyes and a serious expression, Cette eventually relented a nod to the queens. "I should stay with you then,” she stated softly.
The house on the river felt warm, was Cette's first thought. The queens ushered her in with little pretense, and when they crossed the threshold, Caitlyn held her hand and led her up the stairs while Violet veered off on her own path. She was stopped outside a small room with a bed and no decorations. It appeared hardly used.
Violet reappeared behind the two of them, and she offered Cette a folded up shirt. "To sleep in," she stated.
"We'll let you get ready for bed," Caitlyn murmured, crouching down in front of her as she clung onto her bag and the new shirt. "We'll come say goodnight before you go to sleep."
Cette offered a small nod, and then she watched both of the queens reluctantly leave her alone again.
She turned to the room and stared at the bed. And then dropping her bag, she started digging through it. When she found what she needed, she got ready for bed.
By the time the queens returned, she was finished. Her fingers covered in black paint, and the large sleep shirt pulled over her head, the hem reaching the floor as she stood before the bed, willing herself to climb into it.
The queens focused on her first, Violet coming up behind her and lifting her into the bed, while Caitlyn pulled back the covers and then tucked her in. They both paused when they noticed her hand covered in now dried paint.
"Where did you-" Caitlyn started, but both of their eyes were quickly drawn to the small symbol that was now drawn on the wall above her head.
A key surrounded by flowers.
Her eyes flicked between the drawing and the eyes of the two women who were watching her with something unnamable on their faces. For the first time, she considered that perhaps there were rules to this. To sleeping in a nice house and a nice bed. Perhaps they would kick her out, now that that she had claimed their spot as her own.
She held her breath and waited for their verdict. And then to her surprise, with tight smiles, they wished her a good night and left the room.
Cette didn't sleep at all. Not the first night. She stayed awake, staring at the ceiling, listening to the soft footsteps and murmurs on the floor beneath her, before they too ceased, and everything was silent. Too silent. It was unsettling. She gripped the blanket on top of her, knuckles white, and her eyes drifted up to the drawing above her. She stared at it until the sun began poking its way through her window.
When she saw it was morning, she ripped the covers off of her and began to collect her things, relieved to be free of this place and its unsettling silence and its unsettling occupants. She had decided over the course of the night that she would find somewhere else to sleep indoors from now on so no one would have to worry about her. This way, she wasn't disobeying the queens, but she would be somewhere she could breathe.
Grabbing her bag, she creaked open her door and began to make her ways through the halls. The house looked different in the daylight. She could peek into the rooms she had passed that she hadn't been able to see the contents of the day before. There was a room filled with boxes, one with books, and another with-
Cette paused in her tracks, foot hovering above the stairs that would lead her down to the main floor and towards the door out of this place. She chewed on her lip and debated, and then she was turning on her heel and scampered back to the room filled with the books.
Several minutes later, Cette was slamming another book down onto the floor, the large volume slipping from her grasp as she pulled it from the shelf. She didn't mind much though, she just pressed her lips together and began flipping through the pages, skimming it's contents.
Violet appeared in the doorway not long after, groggy and running her hand over her face. Cette didn't bother glancing up at her.
"Hey, Cette," Violet greeted. "It's pretty early in the morning to be-"
The queen paused in her sentence frowning as Cette's finger traced the words in front of her.
"Can you read?" she asked.
"Yeah," Cette answered, eyes not leaving the page. "A lot of schools leave their windows open, you can sit and listen," she explained, before she finished her page and sighed, snapping her book shut with a loud thud.
Violet continued to stare at her as she stood and turned back to the bookshelf, looking for something different.
"What are you looking for?" Violet's voice murmured, taking a step in the room, her eyes scanning the shelves as well.
"Queen Wyllow," Cette answered, frowning as her eyes glanced over all the books in front of her. There weren’t many on the old kingdom of Oshra, she was finding. Everything was on the modern history of Piltover or Zaun, after the split.
Violet hummed. "I don't think we have any historical accounts on her here," she admitted. "But maybe we can go look elsewhere after breakfast."
Cette stilled at the suggestion, remembering that she had meant to be gone by now. That she hadn't meant to see the queens again this morning.
She chewed on her lip, eyes dipping towards the ground as she debated. Perhaps, it would be okay to let the queen help her find more reading material on her favorite historical figure today, and then tomorrow she could leave.
Nodding to herself, she allowed this compromise.
Violet took this nod as an agreement to her proposal. Gesturing for her to exit the room, she inquired, "You like pancakes? I make really good chocolate chip ones."
Cette's eyes whipped up to hers. "Cake?" she asked, and Violet let out a chuckle before she was ruffling Cette’s hair, much to her own chagrin.
They didn't go look for books on Queen Wyllow later that morning or even that afternoon. Instead, the trio of them became distracted by showing Cette all the places to explore in the small house and yard. The next morning she woke and went to leave, but found herself soon ensnared by a stack of books in the small library that were not there the day previous.
They were all on Queen Wyllow.
This time, Cette didn't even debate. She abandoned her bag at the door and sat down in the library with a thump, pulling the first one off the top of the stack and beginning to read.

ohhh this is one that’s been steeping in my brain for awhile now. classic example of me just wanting an excuse to explore cass and cait’s relationship, but obviously, it would be difficult to do that w cass as a bear for 90% of it lol, so i had this idea to change the curse to cassandra being compelled to be honest all the time. starts off silly goofy, very quickly morphs into a pending geopolitical incident where cait suddenly has to take on cass’ old role and try to smooth things over with people (w vi’s chaotic help of course).
“How are you feeling this morning?” Cait asked cautiously, her eyes flicking up to her mother’s across the table.
The queen waved her hand at her, as if to dismiss her question. “Quite terrible,” she answered, and both of the table’s occupants froze.
Cassandra frowned, her eyes staring a few feet away from her as she seemed to register the words that had left her lips. As if she herself were surprised by what the answer had been.
Cait’s eyes widened, stunned at the seemingly honest answer in the stead of her mother’s usual dismissal of anyone trying to inquire how she was feeling. A slow smile began to spread across her lips.
Had it worked then? Had the old witch done what she had promised?
Clearing her throat, Caitlyn grabbed for a roll and tried to ask as casually as possible, “Do you think any of the suitors will impress at todays’ games?”
The queen tried to shake herself out of her stupor, turning back to her daughter with a thin smile. “I highly doubt it,” she stated. “They’re all rather unimpressive.”
As soon as the words left her lips, the queen balked, her hand covering her mouth as she nearly stood from her seat.
A giggle slipped from Caitlyn’s lips as she clapped her hands together delighted. “I knew you didn’t like any of them.”
You already know how ridiculous this fic concept is, but I love the vissandra agenda and I'm happy to deliver!!!

Vi notices her immediately, because how could she not?
The woman looks immensely out of place. She’s obviously a Piltie - Vi can sniff out rich people from a mile away. Her dress looks tailored, her earrings made of real sapphires, and she holds her martini glass in a real high society sort of way. Vi has absolutely no idea what this lady is doing at a dive bar in Zaun.
But hey, maybe she’ll get a nicer tip out of the deal if she flirts with her a bit. That Piltie money goes far down here.
“How’s the martini?” Vi asks, crossing her arms casually to flex her muscles. The proper types tend to like that kind of thing.
The Piltie raises her nose at that, her dark blue hair shifting to show a hint of grey streaks. “I’ve had better,” she says in that posh accent, but it doesn’t keep her from tossing back the last of it. The line of her throat works as she swallows, oddly attractive, and Vi is annoyed by how much it affects her. She’s always had a thing for mean women.
“Is that so?” Vi teases. “Let me make another one for you and I’ll make it better this time.”
The Piltie smirks at her, blue eyes peering at her intensely. “You’ll do it exactly how I tell you.”
