hello good sir, can we hear more about your three redesigned OCs please?
hello πββοΈ abso-100%-lutely
i've made some heavily unfinished character profiles for these 3 on toyhouse. i will try to make the descriptions digestible, but i'm notoriously bad at offering any kind of sensical oc info x.x
Thaldrik + a bit of premise
From the blacksmith's son to the king's favourite pawn. He grew up a dreamer, an idealist, desperately yearning to be like those great old heroes he read about when he was young, only for his wish to come true, but not the way he wanted.
Basically, there's a kingdom that was overrun by monsters 50+ years ago. There were multiple attempts to reconquer the lost kingdom, and now it was Thaldrik's turn to have a go at it. Unfortunately - his ship is wrecked by goblin assault mid-sea, and he wakes up washed ashore near a village as the sole survivor of the king's cavalry. Fortunately - he discovers that humans weren't all wiped out during the cataclysm as had been believed overseas, and that their descendants, together with descendants of previous expeditions that settled here, survived. The lands are still crawling with monsters, though, and Thaldrik's assignment to liberate what's left of the kingdom is far from over.
He learns that the monsters were unleashed by a royal sage and that he was behind the kingdom's fall all those years ago. Now the sage was back and undead, stirring even more trouble for the whole realm, be it raising the dead, manipulating/exploiting whole other fantasy races, conducting inhumane experiments, starting cults, or meddling with literal gods of the world's pantheon. A long list of condemnations Thaldrik is too unfit to tackle all by himself. Being an outsider left him in dire need of people who'd be willing to accompany him and help him with the layout of the land and its inhabitants. He could also use a magic specialist. Now, during his time back home, he was blessed by a storm god, which is a rare phenomenon, but not unheard of; his newly acquired lightning powers (channeled primarily by his weapons) definitely came in handy both in battle and in the eyes of his king. Spoiler alert! Thaldrik also gets to lose one of his arms later on in the story because I said so! He gets a cool prosthetic one, though :)
She's the magic specialist Thaldrik comes across. An incredibly talented mage of the infernal circle. Myravelle was born into an age when mages were all scrutinised and discriminated against because of Nephit's (the undead sage's) plight. Her own parents were magic users themselves, but even they succumbed to the corruption brought on by the sage and his influence. Being a mage was once a prestigious occupation and field of study, so Myravelle takes it upon herself to clear its name of Nephit's filth by eradicating him and avenging her lineage, playing right into Thaldrik's plans. She lives off scrying, brewing, and minor magic deeds for coin, mage prejudice ever so slightly alleviated during the monstrous swarms as priorities shifted. Myravelle holds her occupation in high regard, archiving lost information and pursuing her talents unapologetically. Additionally, she's been plagued by innate prophetic visions since an early age, which has been a continuous source of nightmares and confusing fragments of what's to come and what can be, relentlessly taunted by visions of twisted magic, her family, and sharing their fate herself. Possessing useful skills and education, Thaldrik bumps into her early-ish in the story as she lives close to the seaside village, investigating the uptick in raised dead in the area around the same time, the two sharing a similar goal.
A sardonic young man who, until recently, was "just" a mercenary for hire. Profit, personal gain, and a spark of morbid curiosity his only motivators in this stupid, dead world. Hailing from the Felbrigian underbelly (a pretty major town), a well-versed contract killer and a handy thief would make a fine addition to Thaldrik's adorable little party. At some point, he overhears the duo, and all it takes is the overseas outsider mentioning breaking into royal tombs (that are probably riddled with valuables) for Faerys to perk up. Such an escapade would prove to be his downfall later on, during a botched crypt investigation. Overwhelmed by enemies, the trio's forced to flee the location. After sustaining an injury, Faerys returns with more than just pockets full of gold: a terrifying curse lying dormant until an encounter with Felbridge's steward, who happens to be the leader of a cult worshipping a life-hating mountain god bound to do Nephit's bidding. Faerys may or may not be behind taste-testing Thaldrik's arm. As if he weren't non-human enough already, he eventually reveals his half-elf heritage, avoiding his concealed origin in fear of alienation, but unable to recollect anything from his past.
i excluded a lot of details because didn't want to make this longer than it already is ;-; feel free to ask me more questions!
