Breaking Down Kara’s Tumblr/Stan Twitter Rant of Supergirl 3x15
Saying it louder for the people in the back!
Let me break it down for those who still believe Kara literally meant what she said to Mon-El during the devastating psychic whammy rant in Supergirl 3x15, instead of grasping the idea that she was unpacking several months worth of angst she’d been bottling up since Mon-El returned with the Legion and a wife in tow.
(Don’t cry, Mon-El! She didn’t mean it!)
“You’re right. We have been through a lot together. Like that time when you promised you wouldn’t leave the DEO, and instead you ran off, you got wasted. You were reckless, selfish, you lied, and you didn’t apologize.”
Apologize for what? He immediately owned up to tricking Winn so Winn wouldn’t get in trouble. He didn’t realize HE was the danger because they hadn’t told him. “I promise I will do as I’m told from now on.”
Kara realized they had been treating Mon-El like a prisoner instead of helping him adjust. [To J’onn about M’gann]: “Okay, clearly she’s got some issues. But she’s the last of her kind, she lost everything, she’s alone, you can’t just treat her like some perp in a lineup! And I’m not talking about M’gann anymore.”
“And then there was the time I got you a job at CatCo. I vouched for you at my place of employment. And then you had Eve do all of your work for you, and then you screwed her in the closet! You didn’t apologize for that…”
She mentions him screwing up (heh) at CatCo and not apologizing for that either. Again, apologize for what, exactly?
Not having a clue what to do there, being brand new to Earth and all? Hooking up with a very beautiful, very willing woman? Kara just dropped him off in this completely foreign environment with some vague instructions about what to do, and went for coffee with James.
“… and, shocker, I apologized to you for trying to make you into a better person!”
Kara apologized because she tried to force him to be just like her and it wasn’t a good fit for him. She apologized for being a sucky mentor to him, NOT for trying to make him a better person. “I’ll be here to help you, however you need me to be. That’s what a real mentor does.”
“No, I don’t think you do get it. I don’t think you get that I gave my heart to a lying jackass!”
Really Kara? Really?
To be clear, my issue isn’t even that Kara blew up at Mon-El (totally saw that coming). It’s that the things she raged about had zero to do with why she was upset IN THE PRESENT. I get the attack helped Karamel move past the awkward phase they’d been stuck in, but it was so poorly scripted that it came off as Kara telling Mon-El he didn’t really make her happy when they were together.
That she was a liar.
That it was all a dream, a trick, that Kara never really loved him. That he was never anything more to her than a lying jackass, a disappointment, and Kara was the unforgiving ex who would always throw his past mistakes in his face, even though they were supposedly forgiven years ago.
“…who was unaware of his behavior towards me…”
Oh, he was aware. And he wanted so badly to do better. Let’s recap: “I’m a terrible partner.”
“Why don’t you tell me what you need. I’ll listen.”
“Just tell me what to do, okay? Tell me what it is and I will fix it!”
And let’s not forget that Kara actually told Mon-El that he had changed, and become someone incredible and unselfish.
She also told him, “Well, I’m not going to forget the way you sacrificed yourself to save me. Ever.”
“… who disrespected me at every turn…”
Seriously Kara? This guy? “Any courage I have I learned from you.”
“You are the most moral person I know. So if you think it’s the right thing to do, it is.”
“You have so much go offer this world, so do’t let Snapper or anyone else tell you differently.”
“I love the way you are honest to a fault and the way you fight for those you care for.”
“No, Mother! That woman is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, the best thing I know. And whether we’re together or not, being near her makes me a better person. It makes me the person that I want to be.”
“I’m sorry I lied to you!”
“I’ll go with you! Whatever you want! I’ll go back to Daxam! I’ll be your prince! Just STOP hurting her!”
“You believe that people can change and you give them a chance to do it.”
“I think we could all stand to be a little more like you. More optimistic and brave.”
“No, I just did what I knew you would have done and it was terrifying.”
“You sacrifice a lot for everyone, and I know I’m beginning to sound like a broken record here, but I admire you.”
“I’m here for you.”
“It’s okay. It was worth it.”
“Wherever I go, I’m going to be better because of you. You’ll be in my heart. I promise I’m going to the the man that you thought I could be. I promise.”
“… and now is this reformed person who, what, wants to reminisce about the good times?”
Last I checked, Mon-El was trying to help Kara train so she’d be ready to face Reign and the other Worldkillers, but what do I know?
So here’s the thing about Kara’s rant. Mon-El and Karamel haters are so busy cheering on Kara for physically and verbally assaulting Mon-El and breaking his heart all over again (which, way to be hypocritical assholes, by the way), they miss the most important detail.
Kara was ANGRY.
But she wasn’t angry about all the things Mon-El did in the past, things that happened before they were together, when he was brand new to Earth, things she’d long since forgiven him for.
She was angry at Mon-El for being back in her life.
For being the man, the superhero, she always knew he could be.
For being MARRIED.
For making her suffer through losing him all over again.
She was stuck. She couldn’t move on. Because it’s hard to move on when you’re holding on to this perfect image of the perfect man, the perfect relationship, the perfect life.
So M’yrnn’s psychic whammy was like dropping Mentos in Diet Coke. Aggression infecting Kara created a brutal eruption of buried feelings. So she raged at Mon-El about trivial stuff from the past and finally let go of the pent-up anger and hurt she’d buried since he returned with a wife.
That’s why she felt like a weight had been lifted.
When she stopped romanticizing their relationship and accepted things with Mon-El hadn’t been perfect, it made it easier for her to finally move past the agony of losing the perfect boyfriend. She understood that friendship was all she could ever have with Mon-El, and she had to be okay with that.
Which, if you were paying attention, Kara pretty much spelled it out in a conversation with M’yrnn a little later in the episode:
“I know how hard it is when everything we know to be true changes. But sometimes all we can do is just accept the way things are and make the best of that.”

Your daily reminder why SC fandom is full of hypocrites
They scream about how racist it is to ship WHITE couple (karamel) over interracial couple (JamesxKara), while they forced Rahul to call them “fan hooligans” for calling him “a hairy ape” and other racial slurs (and he played a POC love interest for Lena) and thrash Guardcorp – another interracial couple, like there is no tomorrow. Friendly reminder that SC IS A WHITE SHIP.
They scream they don’t mix fiction with reality, while shitting on Chris and his IDONTMIND campaign, Mehcad and Rahul – ONLY because they play(ed) guys that were obstacles for SC. I mean, if they don’t mix reality with fiction, then why go after the actors?
They scream they don’t mix fiction with reality, while shitting on Melissa and Chris relationship, calling it PR, how it’s going to end now, writing fics about KatiexMelissa and bashing Chris, and “joking” about Melissa and Katie being the end game and writing fics about Meltie. Because “joking” about celebrities and their sexualities is so fucking funny and decent.
They scream how they don’t mix fiction with reality, while celebrating Chris’ departure and yelling about “winning” and tagging Chris with their shit on twitter.
They scream about Karamel (a fictional ship), being abusive, while doing worse and most horrible shit on social media, including sending deaths threats to fans and cast, making horrible accusations, calling people racists and homophobic, hijacking people’s blogs and posts, cross-tagging, sending gross anons; harassing cast, writers and producers and many, many more.
Calling Mon-El abusive, because he argued with Kara in DEO when the worst thing he said was that Kara is a little full of herself, while praising Lena for arguing with Kara in DEO and saying she has a “god complex”.
Thrashing Mon-El for arguing with Kara, while praising Kara for screaming at him and bashing him in s3.
Calling Mon-El abusive when he called his feelings for Kara “ his Kryptonite”, while losing their shit because someone made SC porn where Lena uses Kryptonite on Kara. Oh, and writing SC fics and using this line.
Screaming about making Supergirl “Kara’s show again”, while talking/posting only about SC, Lena or Katie and calling Lena “show’s savior”. Or saying how they watch only for Lena.
Screaming that Karamels are not fans if they won’t watch s4 because of Mon-El’s absence, while talking how they weren’t watching when Mon-El was in the show. AND, in the same time, screaming that Karamels should stop watch and go away, because no one needs them.
Screaming about Mon-El “emotionally cheating”, while producing hundreds of posts about how Lena looks dead inside while being with James, how she looks at Kara and how much she wants to fuck her right there.
Yelling how Mon-El is a horrible privileged white boy that was born on planet of slave owners, while Lena is a good girl and it’s not her fault she is a Luthor. Also that it’s not important she is privileged, from a family that earned money by screwing people and doing shady shit and that she took over L-Corp after Lex was put into a jail.
Screaming how physically abusive he was, because he attacked Kara right after he woke up from his coma, while ignoring that Lena threw a microscope and Jack. And threatened and forced Edge to confess. And basically creating Krypotnite that could kill Kara.
Screaming how Mon-El lied to Kara, ignoring that whole SC relationship is based on a LIE aka Kara not informing Lena about her heroic alter ego and Lena doing shady shit behind Supergirl AND Kara’s back.
Moaning about how Kara doesn’t need a man and support, while creating posts about how Kara is vulnerable and needs Lena friendship, while if you look at it, Lena is amazingly shitty friend and her so called friendship with Kara is all about her.
Shitting on how Mon-El has taken the show, while not saying a thing when Lena had more screen time than Kara in “the dealing with Edge” ep.
Constantly moaning about how awful karamel fandom is, while daily putting shit in pro tags. Accusing us of fighting with minors, while the minors starting interacting with the adults. Accusing us of fighting with their minors in our tags, while harassing our kids under their posts and scarring them away from social media.
Saying we like Mon-El only because his actor is hot, while objectifying and sexualizing Lena’s actress. And Kara’s.
Feel free to add more.
I’ve unfollowed the supergirl instagram and twitter accounts because every time they posted, the comments were spammed with more hate than appreciation comments :’))

Every time I look through the supergirl tag I’m just like wtf…
Y'all stay mad at Mon-el like he personally wronged you. Soooo y'all don’t believe in character growth or…what??
You wanna stan supercorp cool. But y'all stay painting him as some big bad for what???? You’re mad he apologized for lying because he finally understood how she felt. You can emphasize with a situation and understand why you were wrong and still get a whole new understanding when you actually experience the situation. Y'all act so thick in the head.
Also this episode was soooo good. It hit domestic abuse, dementia, and racism all in the same episode.
I was so happy we got to focus more on Winn.
Also yes supergirl is very capable but she has a TEAM for a reason. Chill.
