We gotta talk about why commenting in tags is poison for the artist.
Hey personages. I like and/or tolerate Tumblr culture as much as the next person, but weāve got to talk about the habit of putting comments in the tags.Ā
Everyoneās pointed out that reblogs are essential to artists and writers on tumblr because itās the only way to get eyes on our work, but this goes beyond that.
Iāve been on this site for longer than I care to admit, but as an oldie and one who doesnāt like to have a lot of plugins running, I never had XKIT, so it is only now that Iāve had the ability to check tag updates on my posts.
And for years, Iāve felt like I was screaming into the void, my work apparently making very little impression, because people were posting all kinds of nice, encouraging comments⦠where I could not see them.
I had no idea people were saying things like this:
These kind, encouraging comments are all from the tags of one of my DynoGuard Art Roundup Posts. DynoGuard is a concept Iām trying to bring to series.Ā
If the artist isnāt able to easily find this kind of feedback, then what hope does an almost certainly less technically savvy producer have?Ā āI would watch/buy/play thisā is the kind of comment that can help move the needle on a creator getting opportunities.Ā
Iām not calling out people for doing tumblr the way tumblr is done. Itās just that the system isnāt working. As such, updates to that system are needed.Ā
TL:DR Please, if itās art, if itās writing, put the feedback in the reblog comments.Ā
