The straight-grained pine wand always chooses an independent, individual master who may be perceived as a loner, intriguing and perhaps mysterious. Pine wands enjoy being used creatively, and unlike some others, will adapt unprotestingly to new methods and spells. Many wandmakers insist that pine wands are able to detect, and perform best for, owners who are destined for long lives, and I can confirm this in as much as I have never personally known the master of a pine wand to die young. The pine wand is one of those that is most sensitive to non-verbal magic.

These wixes enjoy their solitude and do their best work when they are alone. In group settings, they are quiet but can be forceful with their opinions and ideas. When they love, these wixes do so intensely. If a loved one breaks their trust or heart, they may shut themselves off from others or take on heaps of projects and responsibilities to take their mind off it.

They often have a great spiritual awareness, and may sense if there are ghosts or spirits nearby. They may have a mild fascination with death, dark or taboo subjects.

They have issues with their liver, and are most likely lightweights when it comes to alcohol consumption.

The elemental composition of this wand wood is fire, lunar, and earth based. Metal is a secondary element.

There is talent in magic to do with boundaries, technology, locating, music, and magic to do with recurring cycles. There is talent with using music and sound for healing; the strength of this talent depends on the core. 

According to Ollivander, this wand is one of the most sensitive to non-verbal magic. As such, the owner must be careful when holding their wand to not let their emotions or thoughts encourage the wand to cast a corresponding spell.

A rare core, basilisk horn is considerably picky when it comes to its owner. The ideal owner is strong minded, and must have a firm hand, unless they have an affinity with snakes. They appear cool in most situations and are generally well-mannered. 

Good at keeping their secrets and emotions to themselves, they like to have control of situations. However, they also have hot tempers and when they do unleash their anger, they can do much harm.

These few wixes are prideful but insecure. They want to remembered for their greatness and have great fear of dying unknown and forgotten. This goes with their fear and disgust of mediocrity– they want to be above the crowd, and are disgusted with those who are complacent with being average, being forgettable.

They are sure to accomplish great feats– not necessarily good but certainly great.

They have well-defined opinions and are not too open about changing them.

There is talent with magic to do with vibrations, petrification or immobilization, alchemy, and dark magics. They are also good at reflecting hexes and jinxes.

This core’s elemental composition is water, dark, and earth based.

Basilisk horn wands perform best in the following areas of magic: potions, defense against the dark arts, transfiguration, charms, and ancient runes & symbols.

There can be issues with magical creatures, as many creatures are intimidated by the mere aura of this wand. They may flee or act aggressively towards the owner, without the owner having done anything. Herbology can be difficult as well, as close contact of basilisk horn wands to a fair amount of magical plants can cause them to die or react violently.

There are no common careers, per the rarity of this core. However, they do like positions of leadership and power, where they can utilize their cunning and skills.

Wands with this core may have opinions on the company their owner keeps. If the wand thinks the owner can do better, it will make its opinion known-usually in a creative fashion.

Basilisk horn wands may behave erratically if they hear the crow of a rooster.

Wands with the horn from a female may randomly emit green and yellow sparks, whereas wands with a male basilisk’s horn will emit green and red sparks. They both emit a scent reminiscent of rainwater, mint, and a hint of lemon.

Wands with this core have a natural camaraderie with cockatrice feather wands.

Common familiars include: black bears, pythons, owls, falcons, tigers, stingrays, man-of-wars, platypuses, black butterflies, and sloths.
